Lion kills guide in Zimbabwe safari park where Cecil lived
[THEGUARDIAN] A safari guide has been mauled to death by a lion in the same Zim-bob-wean national park where Cecil the lion was killed by hunters.

Quinn Swales was taking guests on a photographic walking safari in Hwange national park at dawn on Monday when he was charged by the male, according to the Camp Hwange lodge. The 40-year-old Zim-bob-wean saved his guests but died of his injuries.

Hwange was home to Cecil the lion before he was killed last month in a suspected illegal hunt by American dentist Walter Palmer, triggering a global wave of revulsion and anger.

Ferguson, Mo. Municipal Court Judge ordered that all arrest warrants issued in the city before Dec. 31, 2014 be withdrawn.
[Rooters] A new municipal judge in Ferguson, Missouri, on Monday ordered sweeping changes to court practices in response to a scathing Justice Department report following the shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown a year ago.

Municipal Court Judge Donald McCullin, appointed in June, ordered that all arrest warrants issued in the city before Dec. 31, 2014 be withdrawn.

Defendants will receive new court dates along with options for disposing of their cases, such as payment plans or community service. Fines may be commuted for indigent people.

The changes come five months after the U.S. Department of Justice strongly criticized city leaders in its report, saying the police force and court worked together to exploit people in order to raise revenue.

The Justice Department specifically said Ferguson's municipal court practices caused significant harm to many people with cases pending as minor municipal code violations turned into multiple arrests, jail time, and payments that exceeded the cost of the original ticket many times over.

McCullin, who is black, ordered instead that if an arrest warrant is issued for a minor traffic violation, the defendant will not be incarcerated, but will be released on their own recognizance and given another court date, the city said.

"These changes should continue the process of restoring confidence in the Court... and giving many residents a fresh start," said McCullin in a statement.

He added that many people who have had drivers licenses suspended will be able to obtain them and start driving again. In the past, the city's director of revenue would suspend a defendant's driver's license solely for failing to appear in court or failing to pay a fine.
Seems only fair. We have different standards for college admissions, military promotion, gov't hiring, civilian job placement and advancement, home buying, federal contracting, medical care. Why not make race based adjustments to the legal system in Obamaland as well? It's a pilot program, sure to catch on elsewhere.

That's the name of the game just about anywhere. If one ignores summons and court dates, warrants get issued and fines build up. It's not just a "black" thing, it's the way the justice system works for white people too. But then again, "black lives matter" more than white lives for the bottle throwers, window breakers, fire starters and looters. Now, are they going to return all the loot they took during the riots since the warrants have been withdrawn?

Bangladesh
Police confiscate assets of Rajon's killers
[Dhaka Tribune] The police have confiscated the assets of two runaways in the Rajon murder case, in accordance with recent a court order.

A team from Jalalabad cop shoppe, led by Sub-Inspector Ariful Amin, entered the house of Kamrul Islam and his brother Shamim Alam in Shekherpara yesterday and confiscated different assets including sofa, bed, refrigerator and other furniture.

Efforts were also on to confiscate the assets of another runaway -- Pavel Islam, said Jalalabad Officer-in-Charge Akhtar Hossain.

On Monday, Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Shahedul Karim passed the order to confiscate the assets of the three runaways in the case. He also issued arrest warrants against the men.

Meanwhile,

Britain
Britain orders £46m air defence radar to protect Falklands from Argentina
[The Telegraph] Britain has ordered ÂŁ47 million of new mobile air defence radars to protect the Falkland Islands against possible attack by Argentine jets.

The new vehicle-mounted radar will be able to spot threats up to 75 miles away and the first systems will be delivered before the end of the year.

The Defence Secretary earlier this year said Britain would strengthen the islands' defences amid reports Argentina was trying to update its aged air force with Russian or Chinese jets.

Michael Fallon warned there was a "very live threat" to the islands.

He said: "It is our general view that the threat has not reduced. Argentina still, sadly, maintains its claim to the islands 30 or more years after the original invasion and the war and we have to respond to that."

The Ministry of Defence has already ordered new anti-aircraft missiles for the islands to one day replace its existing batteries.

A period of relative calm along the line of contact on Monday preceded a return to fighting in southeastern Ukraine Tuesday as both Ukrainian and Russian backed rebel forces exchanged direct and artillery fire in three key areas in Donetsk, according to Russian language news accounts.

Monday was Ukrainian Independence Day, so only a few instances of ceasefire violations were acknowledged from either side. But Tuesday the fighting returned with two dead reported in Mariupol and one more dead reported in Gorlovka.

According to data supplied by the Ukrainian ministry of defense, rebel artillery hit Ukrainian positions at three towns in southern Donetsk near the Sea of Azov port city of Mariupol. Rebel 122mm artillery struck at Lebedinsky and Sopina, while rebel 120mm mortars struck the town of Granitnoye. Rebel media did not report any Ukrainian artillery fire in the Mariupol defense zone. A total of three Ukrainian naval infantrymen were killed and another four were wounded. Ukrainian media said the rebel artillery originated from Kominternovo.

Further north, around Telmanovo, the rebel Donetsk ministry of defense said that Ukrainian artillery struck their positions at Dokuchaevsk and Novolaspa. A militia leader, writing a post on the VKontakte page of Russian reserve FSB Colonel Igor Girkin reported a small Ukrainian probe near the rebel held town of Belokamenka.

Around Donetsk city, Ukrainian media said that rebel 122mm artillery struck Ukrainian positions at Vodyanoye, and 152mm artillery, along with some direct fire from RPGs and heavy machine guns were fired on Ukrainians at Krasnogorovka and Peski.

Rebel media said that Ukrainian artillery hit rebel positions at the Donetsk airport and Spartak. Ukrainian media said that rebel artillery hit an unidentified hospital and some residential buildings ar Marinka. A report in tsensor.net said that 122mm artillery were used on the town.

A Ukrainian artillery attack on Gorlovka early Tuesday morning killed one unidentified civilian and damaged six other buildings including two schools. Rebel media said the artillery that hit was sited at Artemovsk.

A separate report from Girkin's novorosinform.org webpage said that Donetsk ministry of defense spokesman Eduard Basurin identified the artillery unit which fired the attack as the 1st Howitzer Battalion, 44th Separate Artillery Brigade.

Europe
U.S. is about to deploy F-22 Raptor stealth jets to Europe in a show of force against Russia

F-22 Raptors to be deployed to Europe "very soon."
The Air Force is about to deploy the F-22 Raptor 5th generation multi-role stealth fighter to the European theater, as a potential deterrent to Russian aggression, Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James said on Aug. 24.

The Raptor deployment had already been announced in June, when Air Force Secretary, at Le Bourget airshow in Paris, said that Russia was the "biggest threat" her mind, but it now appears to be few days away.

So far the U.S. has responded to the proxy war in Ukraine and to the spike in Russia Air Force activity in the Baltic region with two 6-month TSPs (Theater Security Packages), made up of F-15s and A-10s, and stepping up its presence at regional exercises with NATO allies and partners, attended also by B-52 strategic bombers and A-10 attack planes.

Raptors have often taken part in rotational deployments in the Asia-Pacific region since 2009, but have never been deployed to Europe. It would be interesting to know which airbases are being considered for such deployment that should include 12 aircraft and 200-300 support personnel even though the aircraft will probably not be stationed at a single base but will perform short rotations to a few airports in eastern Europe as already done by the F-15s and A-10s of the previous TSPs (that have visited Germany, UK, Poland, Estonia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, etc.).

Although it was born U.S.'s premier air superiority fighter the F-22 has become a multirole aircraft that has had its baptism of fire in the air-to-surface role during the air war against ISIS: along with air-to-air missiles, the Raptor can also drop Precision Guided Munitions: two 1,000-lb GBU-32 JDAMs (Joint Direct Attack Munitions) or 8 GBU-39 small diameter bombs.

However, according to the U.S. Air Force, during the air campaign against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, the once troubled stealth plane has emerged as F-22 is pivotal to ensure the safety of the other aircraft involved in the air campaign: the Raptors act as "electronic warfare enabled sensor-rich multi-role aircraft" that provide key kinetic situational awareness to other aircraft: they escort strike packages into and out of the target area while gathering details about the enemy systems and spreading intelligence to other "networked" assets supporting the mission to improve the overall situational awareness.

The Grand Turk
Turkey to hold snap election Nov.1
Early parliamentary election in Turkey will be held Nov.1, the head of the Supreme Electoral Council of Turkey Sadi Guven said Aug.25, the Turkish news TV channel TRT Haber reported.

“In accordance with the Constitution, early parliamentary election will be held in Turkey,” Guven told reporters in Ankara. “The date of early parliamentary election is November 1, 2015.”

Earlier today, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan instructed Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to form the interim government within five days, which will operate until the early parliamentary election.

The opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Justice and Development Party (AKP) failed to agree on the formation of a coalition government. Then Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that early parliamentary election will be held in Turkey.

Turkey held parliamentary election June 7, which involved 20 political parties. Over 53 million people cast their votes in the election. During the parliamentary election, Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party garnered 40.9 percent of the vote, while the Republican People's Party (CHP) gained 25 percent; aside from that the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) got 16.3 percent, and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) gained 13.1 percent of the vote.

Turkey's religious body 'slams Star Wars cult' in magazine
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An article published by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's top religious authority warned of the spread of Jediism, a belief system affiliated with the Star Wars films, Hurriyet Daily News reported Monday.

The article, released in the monthly magazine of the Directorate of Religious Affairs' (Diyanet), criticized Jediism and claimed that "thousands" around the world are identifying themselves as Jediis.

"Jediism ... is spreading today in Christian societies. Around 70,000 people in Australia and 390,000 people in England currently define themselves as Jedis," wrote Marmara University Assistant Professor Bilal Yorulmaz in the magazine.

The article by Yorulmaz comes months after "irreverent Turkish students raised their voices in online campaigns to build Jedi and Buddhist temples at their universities," the newspaper reported.

Jediism, or beliefs adopted by the Jedi warriors in the Star Wars series, attracted public attention in 2001 when some fans decided to create their own faith and identified themselves as "Jedi."

Two medics who humiliated teacher penalised
[DAWN] LAHORE: The King Edward Medical University on Monday expelled two young doctors for humiliating a senior teacher of the institute.

One of the doctors has been barred from getting admission to any postgraduate programme of the varsity for rest of his life, while registration of the other was suspended for a period of three years.

The action was taken on the recommendations of the KEMU academic council which met on Monday. It informed the house that the allegations leveled against the young doctors had been proven in the inquiry report of the disciplinary committee constituted by the Council.

Both medics were postgraduate trainees and senior office-bearers of the Mayo Hospital chapter of Young Doctors Association Punjab.

The penalised doctors -- Dr Inamullah Barki and Dr Umair Rana -- had been facing charges of using abusive language against Professor of Paediatrics Dr Akmal Laeeq and locking him up in his office for not inducting some medics in the postgraduate programme.

The committee had shared the report in the academic council meeting for approval.

A majority of the members who were present in the meeting suggested strict punishment for the two 'culprits' to make them an example.

A senior KEMU official said Dr Inam would not be able to apply for any postgraduate programme at the varsity, while his colleague might appear in admission test after expiry of the his punishment term.

Army Awards Tactical Vehicle Contract To Wisconsin Firm
Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Corp. won a major contract Tuesday to build a new combat vehicle to replace a large share of the U.S. military's Humvee troop carriers.

The Department of Defense awarded the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle contract to Oshkosh Defense, one of three firms that were finalists for the work. The $6.7 billion contract is expected to support thousands of jobs.

The Army and Marine Corps plan to buy as many as 55,000 JLTVs by 2040. Nearly 49,100 would be built for the Army with 5,500 going to the Marines. The vehicle is designed to provide more protection against roadside bombs and mines than Humvees without being as big as another military vehicle produced by Oshkosh, the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle, or MRAP.

Curt Schilling Now Removed From This Sunday's Night Baseball Game
It's now pretty obvious ESPN's getting ready to shitcan him altogether.
Curt Schilling's ESPN career is in flux. The former World Series MVP has been known to share a controversial opinion or two on his social media pages, but he clearly stepped over the line this week. Schilling posted and deleted a picture comparing Muslims to Nazi Germany that drew swift and near-universal backlash.

In the aftermath, ESPN quickly removed Schilling from his scheduled Little League World Series assignments this week. Now we know that hiatus will extend to his MLB work. ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz tells Awful Announcing that Schilling will not be on the Sunday Night Baseball telecast this week.

#2  Oh, about that 13th Waffen SS Division -

In April 1943, the Mufti of Jerusalem, Mohammad Amin al-Husayni, was invited by Berger to assist in organising and recruiting Muslims into the Waffen-SS and other units. He was escorted by von Krempler, who spoke Turkish.[20] The Mufti successfully convinced the Muslims to ignore the declarations of the Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka Ulama (Islamic clerics), who in 1941 forbade them from collaborating with the Ustaše.[21]

The Germans emphasised that al-Husayni had flown from Berlin to Sarajevo in order to bless and inspect the division. During his visit to Bosnia al-Husayni also convinced some important Muslim leaders that the formation of the division was in the interests of Islam.[22]

ESPN Bounces Curt Schilling from LLWS Over Tweet Comparing Muslims To Nazis
Other than offending PC sensibilities / ESPN social media guidelines, I fail to see a problem with this.
Curt Schilling, who loves crazy-ass memes and being crazy more than anyone, is getting a slap on the wrist from ESPN after tweeting a meme with the basic premise of "Muslims = Nazis."

ESPN PR just released this statement regarding Schilling: (yesterday afternoon - ed.)

ESPN comment on Schilling: Curt's tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company's perspective. We made that point very strongly to Curt and have removed him from his current Little League assignment pending further consideration.

It's kind of weird that he's getting kicked off of LLWS duty, yet seemingly being allowed to stay in the broadcast booth for Sunday Night Baseball. I wonder what would get him suspended from that gig. Maybe a post defending the Confederate flag?
