Cholera outbreak spreads to Sudan's River Nile State
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese Ministry of Health has confirmed the presence of a cholera outbreak in the River Nile State, with 36 suspected cases and two deaths reported.

The outbreak, which initially emerged in Gedaref and Khartoum states in September 2023, has since spread to several other states, including al-Jazirah, White Nile, Red Sea, and Kassala. The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
has warned that the disease could affect over three million Sudanese.

Federal Minister of Health Haitham Mohammed Ibrahim met with health officials in the River Nile State on Friday and confirmed that cases had been detected in three localities, with the majority in al-Damer locality in the Sidon region.

Minister Ibrahim directed the activation of therapeutic protocols in cholera treatment centres and acknowledged the health risks posed by mining activities and the large influx of displaced people and migrants colonists in the state. He emphasized the need for preparedness and increased health interventions and called for regular environmental sanitation campaigns across all localities.

The Minister reassured the stability of the state’s pharmaceutical supply of intravenous solutions and medications and reiterated his commitment to providing support to healthcare systems to combat the epidemic and safeguard public health across Sudan.

Minister Ibrahim stressed the importance of concerted efforts to implement and support health activities, intensify awareness and education about epidemic diseases, and recognize the crucial role of environmental health management in mitigating the spread of cholera. He emphasized the need for individuals to follow preventive measures, such as covering eating utensils, washing hands thoroughly, reporting suspected cases, and avoiding the consumption of untreated water.

Federal judge kicks FBI in the teeth
[MSN] A man convicted in 2010 of plotting to blow up New York City synagogues and a Jewish community center, and shoot down military planes, was ordered to be released from prison by a judge who said the defendant was part of a group manipulated by the FBI.
An agency controlled by another agency.
Four men, who became known as the "Newburgh Four," were caught up in a scheme in 2009 to attack the synagogues and community center, and launch stinger missiles at military aircraft, driven by what the judge describes as overzealous FBI agents and an "unsavory" confidential informant.

U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon had already ordered the three other men in the group - Onta Williams, David Williams and Laguerra Payen - to be released last July.

The fourth man, James Cromitie, described as the ringleader by the government, was ordered released by the judge on Friday.

The judge called the case "notorious" and described the men as "hapless" petty criminals who were "easily manipulated" by the government in a sting operation.

Cromitie's lawyer was quoted in the New York Times as saying the judge's order was "at least some kind of vindication for what we believe was a tragic miscarriage of justice."
A model for unwinding a lot of the foul damage the agency has done in recent years.

I have long stated that the FBI as a whole has HAD many good agents and it was only small fanatical group/cell within it violating civil rights and the constitution.

As I read of more and more of Civil Rights violations, and setups/staged events. I have altered my views.

What we are seeing now will be what the agency is now doing, was feared at its conception 100+ years ago.

Until someone (TRUMP) flushes the DC toilet,
this is what we have to work around.

BTW: is it just me,or do others see some correlation to the FBI increased issues and a certain president since that time frame.

Afghanistan
Two dead, four survive in Afghanistan plane crash
Inshallah.
[GEO.TV] Two passengers bit the dust in a plane crash involving a charter aircraft in the northern Afghan province of Badakhshan, two Taliban
...the once and current oppressors of Afghanistan...
officials said on Sunday.

According to Rooters, contrary to the initial grim news, Khan Mohammad, head of the provincial governor's office, stated that four passengers managed to survive the crash and were currently in the care of Taliban administration representatives.

The crash involved a Russian-registered plane with six individuals on board, as confirmed by Russian aviation authorities. The aircraft mysteriously disappeared from radar screens over Afghanistan the previous night.

Despite the challenging terrain and remoteness of the crash site, Afghan officials, including Zabihullah Amiri, the provincial front man for Badakhshan, swiftly responded, sending a team to investigate the tragic incident.

While the Indian civil aviation authority clarified that the crash did not involve a scheduled commercial flight or an Indian chartered aircraft, details about the circumstances leading to the crash are eagerly awaited.

The remote location, situated over 200km from the bucolic provincial capital Fayzabad, posed logistical challenges for the investigative team, requiring a 12-hour journey to reach the crash site.

Tragically, among the passengers were two Russian nationals, according to Russia's state-run TASS news agency. A manifest list published by the SHOT news outlet indicated that the entire crew were also Russian nationals.

As the investigation unfolds, Russian aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia reported that four individuals survived the crash, while the fate of the remaining two on board is currently under clarification.

The incident underscores the complexities and uncertainties surrounding aviation emergencies, leaving authorities and communities grappling with the aftermath.

President Kiir calls for ceasefire in Sudan conflict
[SUDANTRIBUNE] South Sudan President Salva Kiir has urged an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in neighbouring Sudan, citing the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation caused by nine months of fighting.

President Kiir made the call during a meeting with Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the commander of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Force, on Saturday after participating in a summit organized by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), a regional grouping of eight member countries.

The South Sudanese leader used the meeting to reiterate his administration’s commitment to supporting the regional-led peace process as the only viable path to achieving a lasting peace and resolving the conflict in Sudan. He also urged the paramilitary group’s leader to embrace peaceful dialogue and work towards a peaceful solution to the underlying causes of the war.

President Kiir also called for the establishment of humanitarian corridors to ensure access to assistance and services for people trapped in remote areas of Sudan due to the conflict.

#2  Recent development: January 10, 2024 (EL-FASHER) – Nimr Abdel Rahman, the ousted governor of North Darfur, revealed on Wednesday that his dismissal stemmed from his commitment to neutrality and refusal to declare a mobilization campaign in support of the Sudanese army’s war against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of the Sovereign Council, dismissed Nimr from his position at the beginning of the year without providing a reason.
...Nimr explained that his dismissal followed “his refusal to support the war and to wear military uniform, as the rest of the state governors did.” He added, “We completely refuse to stand with any party in this war, regardless of the circumstances. So naturally, this led to my dismissal.”

Igad: Sudan leaves regional bloc over attempt to end war
[Yahoo - BBC] Sudan is suspending its membership of north-east African bloc Igad over an attempt to mediate the brutal conflict in the country.

Igad has been trying to end the nine month-long war between Sudan's army and rival paramilitary group the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

On Thursday Sudan's government criticised Igad for inviting the RSF's chief to a summit.

Khartoum now says a statement released by Igad was offensive to Sudan.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) was founded in 1996 and is made up of eight states - Kenya, Uganda, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia.

Its current vision is to transform north-east Africa into a upper middle-income economy and a "continental beacon of regional peace, stability, and security by 2050".

Igad was heavily involved in the 2005 peace process that ended a separate 22-year war in Sudan and the bloc also oversaw the installation of a transitional government in 2004, during a Somali civil war. Igad's military forces were also a precursor to African Union mission currently tackling Somalia's insecurity.

On Thursday, leaders of Igad's member countries met in Uganda's capital, Kampala, for a summit.

Sudan's military-led government refused to attend after learning that the RSF boss Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo was invited.

Fighting broke out last April after a row between Gen Dagalo and Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan's army.

Since then the army has struggled to control large parts of the country, losing much of the capital Khartoum and the western Darfur region to the RSF.

At this week's summit, Igad's leaders mainly discussed the Sudan's civil war and current tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia over a port deal.

According to French news agency AFP, Igad on Thursday reiterated its call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire" in Sudan.

In a final statement after the summit closed, Igad also said Sudan's army, led by Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF must have a face-to-face meeting within two weeks, AFP reported.

Sudan's foreign ministry released a statement on Thursday saying it would halt its engagement with Igad.

On Saturday the ministry went further, saying it was suspending its membership of Igad due to the bloc's final statement, reports said.

According to the United Nations, the war has forced more than seven million people have been forced to flee their homes safer locations inside and outside Sudan.

Hundreds of civilians were airlifted out of Sudan at the onset of the war as fighting reached residential areas.

The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project, an analyst group, puts the death toll at more than 13,000.

Since late December, Gen Daglo has toured several African countries, such as Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa, holding meetings with heads of state.

It is part of a strategy analysts see as a bid for international legitimacy.

Ideology driving motive for US operations in the Red Sea
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The US leadership initiated a military operation against the Yemeni Houthi movement Ansar Allah in the Red Sea for ideological reasons, and not for any other reasons. The American newspaper The Washington Post writes about this citing sources.

According to officials close to the administration of American President Joe Biden, it was the ideological motive that became the main reason for the start of the operation in the Red Sea.

They said Biden needed to show that the United States must act as “an indispensable nation with a powerful army and the ability to rally other countries around it to achieve common goals.”

“ We are not trying to defeat the Houthis. We also have no intention of invading Yemen. Our goal is to weaken their ability to carry out similar attacks in the future, which means targeting the infrastructure that makes these attacks possible, as well as their higher-level forces,” the newspaper quoted an informed source as saying.

According to other interlocutors of the newspaper, the US military operation in the Red Sea could nullify all diplomatic efforts to resolve the civil war in Yemen and aggravate the situation in the region.

The publication notes that the US and UK strikes have “significantly weakened” the Houthis’ military capabilities, and emphasizes that the movement still has weapons.

As reported by IA Regnum, on January 18, The New York Times, citing sources, announced the fifth attack in a week by the US Armed Forces on Houthi targets. The strikes were carried out on missiles and launchers, allegedly after receiving intelligence that an attack was being prepared on commercial ships and warships in the Red Sea.

A member of the Politburo of the Ansar Allah movement, Khuzam al-Assad, noted that the Houthis will continue to strike American military and commercial ships. The measures taken by Washington will not stop the movement, which will continue to support the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in all possible ways, he emphasized.

In addition, the Houthis threatened the United States with direct and full-scale war if the confrontation continued. According to senior Houthi leader Ali al-Kahum, after the American aggression, Yemen will become a graveyard for the US, and the Americans will leave the region humiliated.

At the same time, nothing threatens Russian and Chinese ships in the Red Sea, noted in turn Mohammed al-Bahiti, a member of the Ansar Allah Politburo (Houthis).

Cartel human smuggling business is turning entire border towns into war zones
Nature abhors a vacuum.
[FoxNews] Mexican drug cartels are making millions in profits from the hundreds of thousands of migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border and are now turning entire border towns into war zones.

The money left by the migrants trying to get across the border wall from Mexico into the U.S. to criminal organizations that are charging to guide them across, extorting them or kidnapping them is creating a multimillion-dollar illegal business. Now the different criminal organizations operating across the border are fighting to death for a piece of the pie.

From small towns like Sonoyta, across the border from Lukeville, Arizona, to entire cities like Ciudad Juárez, across the river from El Paso, Texas, different cartels are killing each other and challenging Mexican authorities to gain control of the smuggling routes.

Bagirzade's wife detained at a march in Baku
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Security forces in Baku detained Leila Ismailzade, the wife of convicted activist Taleh Bagirzade,
...also known as Bagirov, in his youth the Azerbaijani Shiite studied theology in Iran, then came home to found the Movement for Muslim Unity. He was sentenced to 20 years for murder, terrorism, organization of mass riots, illegal possession of weapons, and attempted forcible seizure of power, because he led the festivities. The authorities accused him and the MMU of planning an armed insurrection against the state, just because they’d thrown Molotov cocktails and opened fire on the police officers during a 2017 raid, in their interpretation of Khomeinism...
for an hour and a half when she and her children tried to take part in a march in memory of the victims of Black January. The Muslim Unity Movement
...also in our archives as the Movement For Muslim Unity, in Arabic Al Tawheed. They describe themselves as a peaceful Shiite Islamic soci-political movement calling for democratic reform and religious liberties, but it’s clear from context they mean the peace that comes from submission to Khomeini Shiism and Iran. In practice they’ve been involved in the usual murder, terrorism, organized mass riots, and attempted armed insurrection, exactly on the Khomeini model...
condemned the actions of the security forces.

As the " Caucasian Knot " wrote, on the anniversary of the entry of Soviet troops into Azerbaijan, which is celebrated on January 20, residents of Baku come to the Alley of Martyrs (fallen heroes) to honor the memory of the dead. A similar action took place in Baku yesterday, on the 34th anniversary of those events.

On the night of January 20, 1990, at the direction of the USSR leadership, a 35,000-strong army corps was introduced into Baku. As a result of the special operation, 137 civilians were killed and more than 744 people were injured. These events entered the history of Azerbaijan as “Black January,” says the “Caucasian Knot” certificate “Black January” in Baku (1990). “The victims of “Black January” are buried in the Alley of Martyrs in the Baku Upland Park.

On January 20, the police in Baku prevented Leyla Ismailzade, the wife of the convicted leader of the Muslim Unity movement Taleh Bagirzade, from taking part in the funeral procession in memory of the victims of Black January and visiting the Alley of Martyrs, Leyla Ismailzade herself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

According to the woman, her and her children’s path was blocked at the exit from the metro station, where she planned to meet with the wife of arrested DME activist Agali Yakhyaeva, Shakhana Yakhyaeva. “We agreed that we would take the children with us, meet at the Elmlryal Akademiyasy metro station and then go together. I had seven children with me: four of my children, the son of Rafael Bunyadov, who was killed during the Nardaran events, the son of Abulfaz Bunyadov, who was then crippled, and another son "Mail Kerimov, arrested on trumped-up drug charges. When we went up the escalator, we were stopped by people in plain clothes. They introduced themselves as employees of the Baku police headquarters," Ismailzadeh said.

According to her, the security forces said that they were “checking documents” and took her and the children to a separate room, and took away her mobile phone. “I asked to be allowed to at least call Shakhana Yakhyaeva so that she wouldn’t wait for us at the station with the children in cold weather. But they didn’t allow it,” Ismailzade said.

She noted that she and her seven children were kept in a “small room” for an hour and a half. “They said that the check was due to the fact that some children were allegedly lost and now they were being searched for. They asked for the children’s identification cards. But we didn’t have them with us. Then they began to enter the children’s data through the “electronic portal.” At first they said, that the data of my eldest son “does not appear” on the portal. Then they nevertheless “found” the data. Then they said that they could not “find” in the system the three other children whom we took with us. Then they said: “No, we can’t let you into the Alley of Martyrs, let the children’s parents take them.” I told them that the father of one of them was killed during a police operation in Nardaran, the father of another was crippled, he cannot move, the father of the third was thrown into prison on false charges. How will their parents come now? At the same time, two employees in civilian clothes were filming us on the phone. For the children, this became torture. The little ones did not understand what was happening and were tired," Ismailzade said.

As a result, she said, the police took everyone home. “I don’t understand why it was necessary to organize this disgrace? It’s also disrespect for the memory of the martyrs. After all, children from schools are brought in classes to the Alley of Martyrs, other parents also come with their children. It’s important that the younger generation knows their history. But why us “They didn’t let me in,” Leyla Ismailzade emphasized.

DME issued a statement in which it condemned the denial of access to Ismailzadeh and her children to the Alley of Martyrs and regarded this as a “provocation of the authorities.” According to the authors of the statement, the police actions were aimed at “completely isolating” the wife of DME leader Bagirzadeh and cutting off her ties with immediate environment, as well as intimidate other women members of the movement.

“We strongly condemn these actions of the authorities. This is political discrimination and another act of police arbitrariness. We demand that the regime stop such provocations,” says the DME statement received by the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were unavailable for comments due to the day off, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.

Let us recall that on January 25, 2017, Taleh Bagirzade and 17 supporters of the Muslim Unity movement were sentenced to prison terms from 10 to 20 years on charges of organizing unrest after an operation by security forces in November 2015, which resulted in the death of seven people, according to the certificate of the Caucasian node "Nardaran".

The defendants complained of torture and did not admit guilt. Azerbaijani human rights activists consider those involved in the “Nardaran case” to be political prisoners. Some of those convicted in this case have already  been released  under pardon.

'Breakthrough' for PML-N as PTI candidate withdraws in favour of Maryam Nawaz
[GEO.TV] In a "breakthrough" for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ahead of the nationwide polls, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Mehr Muhammad Waseem announced withdrawing in favour of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz from Lahore’s NA-119 on Sunday.
Wonder how much that cost.
The election campaigns of all political parties equipped with mollifying manifestos and promises are in full swing across the country ahead of the February 8 vote. PML-N and PPP are eyeing the premier’s office and desperately swaying voters to elect them to power.

The PTI ticket holder met Maryam and announced to withdraw in her favour besides announcing to join PML-N along with his supporters.

Hamas refuses Russia’s request to release its dual citizens from captivity in Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Terror group officials claim Israel grants foreign citizenship to hostages in attempt to have them released

The Hamas
...always the voice of sweet reason...
terror group does not intend to comply with Russia’s request to release all Russian citizens currently held in captivity in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, Hamas deputy politburo chairman Moussa Abu Marzouk told the Arabic edition of Russian state-owned media outlet RT on Friday.

According to Hebrew media outlet Ynet, Hamas rejected a request made by Moscow in December for the release of captives with dual Russian-Israeli citizenship because "many Israelis have dual citizenship," and so it is not enough of a reason to justify their release.

"We did not capture people because they’re Russian or French. We captured them because they kill Paleostinians and they’re Israeli soldiers," Abu Marzouk reportedly told RT Arabic during the 25-minute interview.

"Israel gives them foreign citizenship and then claims that they aren’t Israeli, but rather that they have a different citizenship. It’s as though we don’t have captive Israelis at all," the Hamas official added.

In fact, Israel has never claimed hostages with dual nationality are not Israeli.

Abu Marzouk also claimed, as a further justification for refusing to fulfill Russia’s request, that "most of the Israeli soldiers have dual citizenship."

The majority of the 253 hostages seized by the terror group on October 7 — during their onslaught in which some 1,200 people were slaughtered — were civilians. Additionally, only around 10 percent of Israel’s population is believed to hold citizenship in two or more countries.

It is believed that 132 of the hostages taken on October 7 remain in Gaza — not all of them alive — after 105 civilians were released from Hamas captivity during a weeklong truce in late November. Four hostages were released before that, and one was rescued by troops.

The bodies of eight hostages have also been recovered and three hostages were mistakenly killed by the military. The IDF has confirmed the deaths of 27 of those still held by Hamas, citing new intelligence and findings obtained by troops operating in Gaza.

One more person has been listed as missing since October 7, and their fate is still unknown.

Hamas has also been holding the bodies of fallen IDF soldiers Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin since 2014, as well as two Israeli civilians, Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed, who are both thought to be alive after entering the Strip of their own accord in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Abu Marzouk’s interview came during a visit to Moscow by the Hamas official, at which time he met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov to discuss the ongoing war in Gaza.

"The Hamas leadership delegation held political consulting with the Russian Foreign Ministry to discuss ways to a ceasefire to achieve an end to the aggression against our Paleostinian people," Abu Marzouk said in a statement following the meeting.

"The delegation affirmed the right of our Paleostinian people to achieve freedom and return, and their right to resist the Zionist occupation by all available means," he added.

In return, Bogdanov "expressed his country’s position in support of the rights of the Paleostinian people," Abu Marzouk said.

Israeli Ministers approve letting Norway hold tax money earmarked for Palestinian Authority
[IsraelTimes] In apparent compromise following prolonged division on matter, cabinet okays arrangement that will see Oslo transfer funds to PA only with Jerusalem’s approval; Ben Gvir slams move

The cabinet approved a plan on Sunday to transfer to Norway Paleostinian tax funds which are designated by the Paleostinian Authority (PA) for transfer to its staff in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. terror organization.

The Paleostinian Authority has refused to accept a partial transfer of the tax funds Israel collects on its behalf since November, when the government decided to deduct the amount that the PA has earmarked to send to Gaza to pay for services and salaries in the coastal enclave.

Sunday’s decision, made against the background of heavy American pressure to transfer funds owed to the PA, is designed to try to break this impasse so that Israel technically does not hold funds designated for Gaza, and so that the money is instead held in escrow until Hamas no longer controls Gaza.

It was unclear whether the PA would agree to this arrangement.

Under the terms of Sunday’s cabinet decision, the funds designated for Gaza out of the taxes collected by Israel will be transferred every month into a trust account under Norway’s auspices. Oslo will be barred from transferring the funds to the PA or to any other party without the express permission of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

Norway will also be unable to use the funds as the basis for a loan or loan guarantees.

Should Oslo breach the terms of the agreement, Israel will end the monthly transfers to the trust account, all of the money transferred into the account until then will be returned to Israel, and Jerusalem will immediately cease its transfers of all tax funds to the Paleostinian Authority, according to the decision.

Asked what would happen if the Paleostinian Authority does not agree to this arrangement, a senior government source said the US was sympathetic to Israel’s position.

The government’s decision — opposed by far-right minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who claimed that it failed to provide assurances that the money would not reach the Hamas terror group in Gaza — followed last Thursday’s cabinet discussion of a proposal to transfer the tax revenues, which are collected by Israel on the PA’s behalf, via a third party. Thursday’s meeting did not end with a vote.

"The United States and Norway respect the decision of the political and security cabinet that ordered a halt to the transfer of Gaza funds to the Paleostinian Authority. Therefore, the frozen funds will not be transferred to the Paleostinian Authority, but will remain in the hands of a third country," the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

"Neither the money nor anything in its place will be transferred under any circumstances, except with the approval of Israel’s finance minister, not even through a third party. Any violation of the agreement allows the finance minister to immediately freeze" all of the Paleostinian tax funds, the statement continued, adding that Washington had agreed to serve as a guarantor of the plan’s implementation.

In November, the cabinet approved a partial transfer of funds to the Paleostinian Authority while retaining the sum the PA uses to pay its employees and for certain services in the Gaza Strip — with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich steadfastly refusing to transfer those funds, claiming they could be transferred to Hamas.

The PA then refused to accept any of the funds, which total around NIS 275 million ($75.5 million) per month, as long as the money for services and employees in Gaza is not included. Despite prolonged US pressure for Israel to release the monies, Smotrich has remained adamant in his position.

US said to believe Israel killed just 20-30% of Hamas terrorists in Gaza fighting
[IsraelTimes] Biden administration beginning to see removal of terror group as a security threat as a more achievable goal than entirely wiping it out, Wall Street Journal reports

Strip, US intelligence agencies are reportedly estimating.

The Wall Street Journal, citing a classified report, said Sunday morning that the US believes the terror group still has enough munitions to continue fighting Israeli forces for several months.
And how would the WSJ see an authentic "classified report" unless somebody leaked it? Someone with an agenda, perhaps?
The report said Hamas fighters have adapted their tactics, carrying out ambushes on IDF units and then going into hiding.

Hamas is also trying to rebuild its police force in parts of Gaza City, according to US officials who confirmed details of the classified intelligence report.

The US’s upper limit matches the Israeli assessment. In 2021, a senior IDF commander said that Hamas was believed to have around 30,000 fighters. That figure matches recent US estimates of the number of fighters Hamas had before the conflict started, the report said.

Last week, the IDF said that more than 9,000 Hamas operatives and members of other terror groups have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war, in addition to some 1,000 holy warriors inside Israel on October 7, when button men rampaged through southern communities, massacring some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting over 240 to Gaza.

At the same time, Israel has a much higher estimate of the number of Hamas fighters who are no longer able to take up arms, assessing that 16,000 have been injured, half of whom cannot continue fighting, the WSJ said, citing an unnamed senior Israel official.

The US puts the number of Hamas men injured at between 10,500 and 11,700, many of whom could keep fighting, a US official told the newspaper.

The report noted that in US military doctrine, conventional forces that suffer a 25%-30% loss of their fighters are considered combat-ineffective. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
Hamas is an irregular force fighting in a defensive position in a dense urban environment with access to hundreds of miles of tunnels that can be used to move forces around and carry out attacks.

Though the losses it has sustained are putting pressure on Hamas, each of its fighters is possibly taking on additional roles, retired Army Gen. Joseph Votel, a past commander of US military operations in the Middle East, said.

Neither Hamas nor the US’s Office of the Director of National Intelligence would comment on the report, while the IDF offered only its already published estimates.

The IDF has assessed that fighting in Gaza will likely last throughout all of 2024, as Israel works to strip Hamas of its military and governing capabilities. It has also vowed to continue fighting until all remaining hostages are released from captivity.

The Biden administration has begun to lower its expectations from the conflict with Hamas removed as a security threat seen as more achievable than the destruction of the terror group.

Hamas, for its part, aims to just survive the war, according to current and past Israeli military officials, with one noting, "You don’t have to win, you just have to not lose."

Any good estimate would be hard enough given the massive amount of remains still left to count. Plus the inability to count the 100++'s buried in collapsed buildings and tunnels. Then there are those that became EOD scattered Rat and Crow food.

'Necessary step': Hamas on its Oct 7 attacks on Israel - the path to erasing the Zionist entity
The word "demented" does spring to mind.
Are they not required by the hudna principle to attack the to-be-conquered unbelievers as soon as they’re able? They were able, so they jumped the Iranian gun, and are now paying the price. Just like last time.
[GEO.TV] The Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
bad boy group said Sunday its October 7 attack on Israel was a "necessary step" against Israeli occupation of the Paleostinian territories.

In its 16-page report, the Paleostinian resistance group said the attacks were "a necessary step and a normal response to confront all Israeli conspiracies against the Paleostinian people".

Urging an "immediate halt of the Israeli aggression on Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. , the crimes and ethnic cleansing committed against the entire Gaza population," the group has rejected any international and Israeli efforts to decide the territory's post-war future.

"We stress that the Paleostinian people have the capacity to decide their future and to arrange their internal affairs," the statement said, adding that "no party in the world" had the right to decide on their behalf.
The Times of Israel reports on more Hamas bluntness:
Senior Hamas official Khaled Mashaal addressed the impact of the October 7 onslaught on the Paleostinian people during an interview with a Kuwaiti podcaster earlier this month, saying that he believes it reignited "the dream and the hope of one state for Paleostinians from the River to the Sea and from the north to the south."

Mashaal rejected the notion of a future Paleostinian state existing within the framework of the two-state solution, saying that Hamas
...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
rejects the idea, "because it means we would get a promise for a Paleostinian state, yet would be required to recognize the legitimacy of the other state — the Zionist entity."

"This is unacceptable," he continued. "We demand to be liberated, to get rid of the occupation and to have our independent state. Israel is my enemy, it is not my concern."

The Hamas official explained that although the terror group’s official policy is to seek a singular Paleostinian state that would replace Israel inside of the borders established in 1948, it chooses to fall in line with other Paleostinian entities, including the Paleostinian Authority, in seeking a Paleostinian state within the 1967 borders — for the time being.

"We will not give up our right to Paleostine in its entirety," he said, "but in order to establish a common ground and a joint Paleostinian plan with the other Paleostinian forces, and in line with the Arab position, Hamas agreed to a completely independent state within the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital, with the right of return [for refugees and their descendants] included, without recognizing the legitimacy of the Zionist entity."

This, he explained, would lay the groundwork for a future Paleostinian state established within the 1967 borders to then expand, "without relinquishing any of our rights or any part of our land."

"I believe that October 7 has enhanced this conviction, has narrowed the disagreements and has turned the idea of liberating Paleostine from the river to the sea into a realistic idea that has already begun," he added.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran runs amok as Israel’s neighbors continue to face crises
One might begin to think that Allah is not pleased with any of them — they’re having Heinlein levels of bad luck.
[IsraelTimes] In this round-up of current challenges facing the Mideast, Iran attacks Iraq, Syria, and Pakistain while Leb’s leadership calls for peace — but is unable to control Hezbollah
Also Syria’s farmers quit, and Gazans pay through the nose to escape to Hamas and Egyptian smugglers, unless they are connected. And none of it involves Israel in any way.
Iran showed off its military capabilities last week by attacking Iraq and Syria before moving on to Pakistain with little concern for retaliation or escalation from any military force.

While Pakistain responded by recalling its ambassador from Tehran and attacked targets in the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s territory on Thursday, Syria would not dare react in any way because of its dependency on Iranian aid to the government for the civil war. The same is true for Iraq where protests were held by activists in the country calling to boycott Iranian products, but the nation is still reliant on Iran in many ways.
