Afghanistan
ADB throws WFP a lifeline of $100 million for critical food aid in Afghanistan
How much will end up in Taliban hands?
[ArianaNews] The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan has welcomed a contribution by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) of $100 million to help provide critical food assistance to more than 1.3 million people across the country.

A special focus will be on widow- and women-headed households and other highly vulnerable groups like people with disabilities or families surviving solely on begging. For many of these families, WFP has become their last lifeline.

"Afghanistan has faced an unprecedented humanitarian crisis compounded by climate change and intense droughts, floods, and earthquakes", ADB said in a statement.

"Women and children are disproportionately affected with many women-led households suffering a lack of food and reduced access to services given women’s restrictions on movement outside their homes."

With this contribution, WFP will also train food-insecure women on marketable and entrepreneurial skills and alternative livelihoods along the agricultural value chain, such as fruit and vegetable processing.

During the training, they will be supported with monthly cash transfers, while improving their long-term livelihoods and ability to stand on their own feet and buy food for their families thanks to their new skills.

"This contribution comes at a critical moment for Afghanistan, where 15 million people are going hungry and WFP only can still support three million people with emergency food assistance due to a massive funding crisis", said Hsiao-Wei Lee, Country Director of WFP Afghanistan.

"We are grateful for this generous contribution from the Asian Development Bank that will help us reach families in need starting before winter, when hunger bites hardest."

This is the second contribution from ADB to WFP in Afghanistan, following $135 million in the past year which put it amongst the top five contributors. This year, ADB is the biggest partner of WFP, to date.

#1  What incentive do the people have to raise up and isolate or kick the Taliban out? If the world keeps tossing $millions at them. All the people see is the Taliban taking care of them. Kinda like what North Korea during it failures and the US & United Nations send food and supplies. All the rulers did was take the US & UN name off and put their own on it instead.

Besides sending them $Millions of TAXPAYER $$$$ they have to know, likely most of the money is being funneled into various radical agendas or pockets other than intended.

#2  WFP sending food where their monied sponsors tell them to send it.

The World Food Programme is an international organization within the United Nations that provides food assistance worldwide. It is the world's largest humanitarian organization and the leading provider of school meals. Founded in 1961, WFP is headquartered in Rome and has offices in 80 countries. Wikipedia

It seems to me rather that they see the Taliban taking the donations and keeping it all to themselves while the people starve in the cold and dark.

Africa Horn
UN warns Sudan warfare is hampering aid efforts, worsening humanitarian crisis. Really.
[AFRICANEWS] The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
said Thursday that bringing aid into conflict-stricken Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
poses various challenges, with the country's warring factions hampering humanitarian efforts.

Sudan was plunged into chaos when tensions between the military, headed by Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary, led by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, burst into open warfare in April.

Clementine Nkweta-Salami, Special Representative for the UN Secretary-General and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan said delivering aid through its two entry points of Port Sudan and the Chad-Darfur border are equally problematic.

"We have a longer route from Port Sudan so there are multiple actors that we need to negotiate with for the convoys to move forward." Nkweta-Salami said during a presser in Geneva.

"In Darfur, it's a less, I would say, a less structured group, but we still have to negotiate," she added.

The fighting has reduced the capital, Khartoum, to an urban warzone meanwhile In Sudan’s western Darfur region, the conflict has morphed into ethnic violence, with the RSF and allied Arab militias attacking ethnic African groups, according to rights groups and the United Nations.

The border between Darfur and Chad is largely controlled the RSF and allied Arab militia.

Port Sudan is controlled by the military and has seen little conflict in the past six months.

Nkweta-Salami denounced actors who were preventing aid workers from passing through unimpeded and said that 19 aid workers have been killed and 29 injured.

At least 5,000 people have been killed and more than 12,000 have been maimed since the fighting erupted in spring, the U.N. says.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
doctors’ groups and activists say the true number is likely far higher.

This is crazy talk. Port Sudan has served as THE point of entry/exit in all trade with the Sudan. It may be fractionally longer than the route from Chad, but it certainly is more rapid and secure. Unless of course the government has lost control of the railroad and roads leading from the east into Khartoum (!?).

Kenya confirms last troops to leave Somalia by end of 2024
[AFRICANEWS] Kenya’s Defence Ministry said on Wednesday September 4 that it will withdraw its last troops in Somalia under the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) by the end of 2024.

The planned withdrawal was confirmed by Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to the Senate.

"The last troops are expected to leave Somalia on 31 December 2024 as per the AU and UN Security Council resolution and plan," Duale said.

Duale’s confirmation comes despite a recent delay to the scheduled drawdown, following a request by Somalia to pause the drawdown of African Union peacekeepers for three months.

There are more than 4,000 Kenyan troops deployed in Somalia under ATMIS, alongside troops from Uganda, Æthiopia, Burundi and Djibouti.

WHAT IS ATMIS?
The AU’s Transitional Mission took over from the AU’s Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in April 2022.

A United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
-mandated mission, AMISOM began in 2007 as a peacekeeping force in the country, as Somalia — and the broader region — battled against the al-Qaeda affiliated group al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
.

The mission was also eventually mandated to help protect Somalia’s transitional government, support the country’s electoral process and assist in delivering humanitarian aid..

By mid-2017 the world’s largest peacekeeping operation, the mission helped to push back against al-Shabaab, paving the way for an eventual drawdown.

In April 2022, the AU renamed the mission ATMIS and, while its mandate has been largely the same as its predecessor’s, the mission's ultimate goal is to conclude operations in Somalia by the end of 2024 and hand over the reins to the Somali government.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
while al-Shabaab has been forced into retreat in parts of the country and international bodies have lauded the Somali government’s efforts against them, attacks by the Islamist insurgency are still all too frequent and continue to spill over the border into Kenya.

Resident of Ingushetia is suspected of involvement in militants
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Security forces have put a resident of Sunzha on the wanted list, considering her to be a participant in the fighting in Syria.

A 43-year-old resident of Ingushetia has been put on the wanted list as a suspect under two criminal articles. The woman was suspected of involvement in militants by FSB operatives and the Ingush center E.

According to the security forces, no later than September 2016, a resident of Sunzha left for Syria, where she joined the militants of an international terrorist organization. Since then, she has been involved in battles against Syrian government forces, according to an October 5 statement on the website of the Ingush department of the Investigative Committee.

The suspect has been put on the international wanted list. She is charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and participation in military operations for purposes contrary to the interests of the Russian Federation (Part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The first of these articles implies from 10 to 20 years of imprisonment, the second - from eight to 15 years.

The Caucasian Knot does not yet have any comments from the suspect or her representatives regarding the version of the security forces .

The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that in April, Ingush security forces put a 28-year-old resident of the republic on the wanted list for a similar criminal case. According to law enforcement officers, she left for Syria before the beginning of 2015 and has remained in the ranks of the militants for more than eight years since then.

Hearing in the case of burning the Koran has been set
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] Regnum. The Visaitovsky District Court of Grozny will begin on October 9 the consideration of the case of burning the Koran, in which Volgograd resident Nikita Zhuravel is a defendant, follows from the court data.

“The criminal case was accepted by the court for proceedings and scheduled for consideration at the court hearing at 10 o’clock on October 9, 2023,” the text says.

As Regnum reported, in May, law enforcement officers detained Nikita Zhuravel in Volgograd, who staged a rally with the burning of the Koran near the city mosque. The detainee stated that he took such a step on instructions from the Ukrainian special services , who promised him a monetary reward.

Law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case for insulting the feelings of believers, and at the end of May the accused was taken to the pre-trial detention center in Grozny . The Investigative Committee of Russia explained that Zhuravel’s case was transferred to investigators in Chechnya, since the agency received numerous appeals from residents of the republic calling for them to be recognized as victims.

In mid-June, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the person responsible for burning the Koran would serve his sentence in a colony , which is located in one of the Muslim regions of the Russian Federation. At the end of September, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov , published a video showing his son Adam beating Zhuravel in a pre-trial detention center. Kadyrov said he was proud of his son.

Europe
Why the failure to stem migration is driving even liberal Germans into the arms of the far-Right: As Bavaria goes to the polls tomorrow, ROBERT HARDMAN is dismayed to find spiralling resentment - and chilling echoes of history
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] There are moments on this campaign trail when I wonder if I have just spent the entire day in a beer hall. My trip has overlapped with Oktoberfest, when millions of Bavarians don traditional outfits and sink gallons of the local brew to the sound of an oompah band.

But I am stone-cold sober, and my eyes are not deceiving me. Just a mile from the happy mayhem of the Oktoberfest showground is an angry demonstration outside Munich’s city hall.

It’s a mish-mash of people complaining about everything from the war in Ukraine to the cost of living.

Some are in Bavarian lederhosen. One man is wearing nothing but a pink thong. The one thing which unites them all is a loathing of the political establishment.

There is nothing new in a disenchanted electorate, of course. But then I chat to Wolfgang, a recently retired insurance manager. He is waving a flag with the CND logo (the international peace symbol). ‘I don’t want any more war and I’m worried about the economy,’ he says.

So which way will he vote when Bavaria goes to the polls tomorrow? ‘Well, I’ve voted Green for the last 25 years. But this time, I think I will go with the AfD.’

I am speechless. Here is someone who has been trotting along on the eco-wing of the Left for most of his adult life and now he is going to tick the box for the far-Right Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD).

Quite apart from the fact that they are fiercely pro-nuclear, the AfD are considered so beyond the pale that no other party — in a land of coalition politics — will even contemplate doing a deal with them.

Their latest election literature uses overtly Islamophobic language. They blame specific minorities for a spike in German rape statistics. They even have a creepy poster of a man in women’s make-up who appears to be about to grab a small boy, alongside the slogan ‘Leave our children alone’.

One of the party’s most senior figures is facing prosecution for alleged use of Nazi language in a recent speech. And now, the only party further to the Right, the neo-Nazi NPD (newly renamed ‘Die Heimat’ or ‘The Homeland’) has just urged its supporters to vote AfD tomorrow.

Yet flag-waving Wolfgang is not some lone oddball. Alongside him, retired software developer, Roland Mayer, says that he is leaning towards the AfD, too. ‘They are the only people who can stop us being in this war,’ he says, pointing to the AfD’s pro‑Putin stance.

I meet several others, from both Left and Right persuasions previously, who tell me that they, too, will be voting AfD tomorrow. They cite multiple reasons for their lurch to the far-Right. Nadine, 35, talks of ‘crazy gender issues’. Yet if you scratch a little deeper, you soon get on to what lies behind this alarming shift in voting patterns: talk of another surge of migrants.

The Grand Turk
What threatens Erdogan with clearing the Trans-Euphrates region of Kurds?
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Kamran Hasanov

[REGNUM] For almost four decades, Türkiye has been at war with the Kurdistan Workers' Party. Previously, Ankara acted with full-scale forces and fought on its territory. These have now taken the form of anti-terrorism operations in Turkey with periodic bombing raids in Iraq and ground missions in Syria. However, the Kurdish issue still makes the Turkish leadership nervous.

On October 3, the head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ali Erlikaya, announced the start of the anti-terrorist operation “Heroes”. Nearly a thousand people have been arrested on suspicion of extremism and terrorism, a quarter of them in Istanbul. Up to 800 illegal weapons were confiscated.

The operation, which claims to be the largest in history, is being carried out in 64 of the country's 81 provinces. Immediately afterwards, fighting spread to neighboring Iraq. The Turkish Air Force attacked militant bases there.

The formal reason for the large-scale mission was given by attacks by PKK militants in Ankara. On October 1, they attacked the building of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs in the center of the capital. Two militants were involved in the operation, one of whom committed a suicide bombing. The second was detained, but the attackers managed to injure two police officers.

The intention of the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan to launch a large-scale operation is connected not only with a formal reason, indicating the preservation of the potential of the PKK in Turkey.

Erdogan’s determination is strengthened by the fact that the PKK threatens not only stability in society, but also his personal security, and encroaches on the institutions of power. After all, on the day of the attack in Ankara, the opening of the parliament session, which had gone on summer vacation, was planned. The explosion occurs right next to the building of the Grand National Assembly. Erdogan was supposed to speak there personally.

The PKK claims responsibility for the attack and calls it a "warning" signal and retaliation for Turkey's military actions against militants in Syria and Iraq. That is, this is a personal attack against Erdogan.

The Turkish President is forced to react to show retribution and strength against the troublemakers. He reminds us that “we may come suddenly at night.” But words that are not backed up by action and strength—especially in the Middle East—are perceived as weakness. In Erdogan's many bellicose statements, what is striking is no longer the degree of decisiveness, but the following:

“Because of a terrorist organization, we have been forced to endure human and economic losses for 40 years. We want to eliminate it both within our borders and beyond. We can consolidate the military successes we have already achieved with new achievements.”

On the one hand, Erdogan announces the success of the anti-terrorist fight, but on the other hand, wittingly or unwittingly, he makes it clear that the threads of the conflict stretch back to the 80s and the struggle (in fact, the war with Kurdistan) is not yet over.

If you look at it in historical retrospect, the Kurdish issue in Turkey dates back to the beginning of the last century.

During the 1920s and 1930s, the Kurds rebelled against the Turkish Republic 15 times. But the modern stage is no less ambitious. It is marked by the formation of the Kurdistan Workers' Party in 1978, which set the goal of separating the eastern and southeastern vilayats inhabited by Kurds from Turkey and creating “Turkish Kurdistan”.

In 1993, the PKK softened its course and declared the formation of Kurdish autonomy as its goal. However, this does not change the essence. Where there is autonomy, there is independence. Let's take a look at Iraq and Syria, where formally the Kurds remain part of the Arab republics, but de facto (since 2003 and 2011, respectively) live their own lives and enjoy sovereignty.

After large-scale battles at the end of the 20th century and the arrest of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan with the support of Israeli intelligence services, the conflict did not end. The Turkish army carried out many operations in the new century. One of the largest took place in 2008 with almost 40 thousand dead on both sides.

Kurdish separatists, represented by the same PKK, used every opportunity to undermine Ankara's power in the east. The fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003 opened a window of opportunity for the Kurds. Although the fight moved to Iraqi territory, where the Turkish Air Force carried out strikes and Turkish bases appeared, the successful case called “Iraqi Kurdistan” created a precedent for the resuscitation of the “Turkish Kurdistan” case.

Erdogan tried to negotiate with the government in Baghdad for joint action against the PKK. Baghdad turned a blind eye to the bombing of Kurdish bases in the Gandil Mountains.

Since 2013, the PKK itself has even made concessions and announced a truce with Turkey due to the immensity of joint actions against the Islamic State (banned in the Russian Federation). But the truce lasted two years. First, the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) entered northern Iraq, and then launched a large-scale operation in Cizre and Silopi, involving 10 thousand military and police forces using such troops.

By this time, it became clear that the power and numbers of the PKK were not enough to successfully fight the second NATO army. The only chance is the Iraqi scenario. In July 2016, the militants were close to this. The military nearly overthrew Erdogan. But the surviving president, even though he withdrew his forces from Iraq immediately after the coup, only four days later Turkish aviation resumed large-scale bombing of PKK bases.

The same trick was repeated in January 2017, when Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim agreed with the Iraqi authorities on the withdrawal of troops, but two days later his deputy canceled this agreement. The reason for maintaining Turkish forces in Iraq later was not only the fight against terrorism on distant approaches, but also the referendum on the independence of Iraqi Kurdistan. Baghdad was already powerless to object, for it itself feared for the final collapse of the country.

In the summer of 2016, Erdogan formally occupied Syrian El-Bab as part of Operation Euphrates Shield to fight ISIS (banned in the Russian Federation). Another blow to Kurdistan, but this time in Syria. The Iraqi scenario ultimately took place not in Turkey, but in Syria.

Having received support from the United States and the American coalition, the Kurds occupied significant territories in the north of the Arab Republic. The Kurds had both a party (PYD Democratic Union) and an army (YPG) there. Supported by oil resources concentrated in Trans-Euphrates and US military bases, the project of Syrian Kurdistan has almost become a fait accompli (a fait accompli). But Erdogan intervened.

At the beginning of 2018, Ankara began to liquidate the Kurdish canton in Afrin. Operation Olive Branch, despite criticism from the US and EU (and with the tacit consent of Moscow), was successful.

Then Erdogan took up Trans-Euphrates. The "Source of Peace" the following year established control over the lands from Ras al-Ain to Tel Abyad, completely fragmenting the YPG zones of ownership. US pressure had no effect, despite Donald Trump's threats to " destroy the Turkish economy".

Erdogan was stopped and at the same time saved (from US sanctions) by the Kremlin’s intervention. In Sochi, Erdogan and the Russian president agreed to withdraw the YPG from the remaining territories bordering Turkey.

Incapable of direct opposition on the battlefield, the PKK and its Syrian offshoot the YPG responded with terrorist attacks in Turkey and Iraq against Turkish civilians and military personnel.

On November 13, 2022, they carried out a major terrorist attack on a tourist street in Istanbul, killing six people and injuring 80. Turkey was responsible for CTO at home and in Iraq. A ground invasion took place in the Arab Republic. In April of the same year, the VGT destroyed 50 targets, and the Turkish Ministry of Defense declared victory.

Erdogan planned to clear out the remaining Kurdish cantons in northern Syria, citing the impracticability of the Sochi memorandum. However, this operation was initially stopped by the disapproving position of Russia and the United States, and then the issue was frozen due to the lira crisis.

In addition, Erdogan launched the normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt, which by this time had themselves made peace with Damascus. SAR President Bashar al-Assad objected to another Turkish intervention in Syria, and investments in the Turkish economy forced the opinion of the Gulf monarchies to be taken into account. After Syria returned to the Arab League, Erdogan himself began to hint at peace with Assad.

The latest terrorist attack in Ankara, although forcing Erdogan to take decisive large-scale action, does not fundamentally change anything in the regional situation.

Operations inside Turkey will not worry any of the neighbors. There, Ankara acts within the framework of the principle of combating terrorism and territorial integrity. However, the expansion of military operations into Iraq and even more so into Syria is fraught.

Iraqi President Abdel Latif Rashid has already condemned "Turkish violations in Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, Dohuk and other regions of Iraqi Kurdistan." He gave an example of solving the Kurdish problem with Iran and hints at the same scheme with Turkey. After the latest TSA airstrikes in Iraq, Turkish and Iraqi Defense Ministers Yashar Güler and Sabit al-Abbasi have already discussed joint steps to combat terrorism.

Meanwhile, Ankara threatened another ground operation in Syria, but the factor of the United States and Russia (even despite their confrontation in Ukraine) cannot be canceled. Arab countries will also put pressure on Turkey, in which they have invested billions of dollars.

At the same time, it is also not possible to say that Erdogan will stop there. Regional elections are coming up. The president's party wants to return the lost city halls of Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya. Therefore, it will be necessary to take action against the PKK and unite the electorate around a common threat. Moreover, previous military operations in Syria and Iraq chronologically coincided with presidential, parliamentary and municipal elections.

So it is possible that Erdogan, in addition to the CTO in Turkey, will conduct small operations in Iraq and Syria. The international situation, when everyone is busy with Ukraine, would seem to favor this.

However, it is still risky to go beyond air operations. The day before, the Americans had already fired a warning shot, shooting down a Turkish drone over Syria.

Ground operations are all the more fraught with a deterioration in relations with NATO. Erdogan’s nods towards the alliance immediately after the May elections in the form of support for the membership of Ukraine and Sweden were necessary for him not only to unfreeze the transfer of F-16s to Turkey, but also to make the Turkish economy more attractive for Western investment. If Erdogan clears Trans-Euphrates, some Fitch agency will again downgrade Turkey’s credit rating, and the lira will hit another bottom. And in Dolmabahce they know this very well.

Türkiye calls on US to stop cooperating with Kurdish forces in Syria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited
[Regnum] Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during a conversation with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, harshly called on him to stop cooperation with Kurdish forces in Syria. TASS reported this on October 6, citing a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

“During the conversation, Fidan sharply brought to the attention of Blinken that the United States, as an ally, must stop cooperation with the terrorist organization People’s Defense Forces in northern Syria,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

Fidan also added that Turkey's counter-terrorism operations in Iraq and Syria will be resolutely continued. The parties also discussed the incident with the Turkish drone shot down by the United States.

As Regnum reported, the Turkish Al-Mayadeen TV channel reported on October 5 that in Al-Hasek near the settlement of Tell Beidar, the American military shot down a Bayraktar UAV with a missile. The drone was shot down while it was almost over a US military base.

The province of Al-Hasakah is, contrary to the permission of the Syrian leadership, under the control of the American military. The Americans are also in the provinces of Al-Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor.

#4  The was issued early. The usual process is for Hamas to start the festivities, start out vicious, then when the IDF responds and the rubble actually starts to bounce, this sort of stoopid statement is released. Attention can then shift to the number of dead Paleos, criticism can come for "disproportionate response." The original warnings that the bustards are really gonna get it this time are forgotten, the Gordian remains tied, and the Paleos surrender, declare victory, and have a parade.

#6  I didn’t know that, Dron. Definitely a self-righteous prig of a man — always happy to let others die for his stated ideals including, as I recall, his wife.

So it’s not really surprising someone finally gave him his martyrdom. I can imagine many quarters where there was much rejoicing.

Afghan citizens involved in Karachi street crime, reveals senior police officer
[GEO.TV] Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Additional Inspector General (AIG) Police Khadim Hussain Rind has revealed that Afghan citizens are involved in street crimes in Karachi.

Afghan citizens have been found involved in various street crime activities especially those resulting in deaths, Rind said while speaking to Geo News on Friday.

The senior police officer said that 225 Afghan citizens involved in street crimes in Karachi were apprehended in recent times of which some are in jail facing criminal cases.

Highlighting the performance of Karachi Police under his command, the AIG said that the new team has produced notable results with 20 criminals being killed in shootouts the last month along with 130 being injured and a further 600 arrested.

Addressing the issue of illegal Afghan citizens, Rind revealed that more than 400,000 illegal Afghans are residing in Karachi of which 1,547 were deported back to their homeland in the past month alone compared to 323 who were expelled last year.

Commenting on preparations for the expulsion of illegal foreigners, the AIG said that the Karachi Police in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), is gearing up for a comprehensive one-window operation against aliens especially Afghan nationals who are illegally residing in the port city.

Data of Afghan citizens arrested from different areas of the metropolis will be cross-checked, and verified via the Nadra database, "The FIA and immigration records and those found illegally living in the country will be deported instead of being sent to jail."

It is pertinent to know that the caretaker government earlier this week had announced the November 1 deadline for the illegal "aliens" to leave the county voluntarily.

The decision came days after a deadly suicide kaboom in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
’s Mastung, in which over 60 people bit the dust. In most of the recent terror incidents in Pakistain, Afghan nationals or soil was reportedly used.

Speaking on the occasion, the caretaker interior minister revealed that Afghan nationals were responsible for 14 of the 24 suicide kabooms in the country this year.

Sindh forms committees to oversee expulsion of aliens
The Sindh Home Department Tuesday constituted committees at province, division, and district levels to oversee the expulsion of illegal foreigners living in the province.

"In order to oversee implementation of the process of repatriation of illegal foreigners, an Implementation Committee is hereby constituted," a notification issued by the department read.

The committees will include representatives of intelligence agencies including Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(IS), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Military Intelligence (MI), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Sindh's Commissioner for Afghan refugees and Nadra.

They will gather data on unregistered refugees living in the province and will not only be responsible for taking measures to expel them but will also take steps to prevent their entry into the province.

Army chief briefed over 'repatriation of illegal foreigners' during Karachi visit
[GEO.TV] Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir was briefed on the ‘repatriation of illegal foreigners’ among other matters during a Provincial Apex Committee meeting on his Karachi visit on Friday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The army chief was received by Commander Karachi Corps upon his arrival in the port city.

A statement released by the military's media wing said that matters such as the revised National Action Plan, operation in the Kacha (riverine) area, security of foreigners employed on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in the province and other private schemes were discussed in the meeting, where Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar was also in attendance.

According to the ISPR, the high-level huddle also briefed the army chief on foreign currency regularisation measures, Karachi Transformation Plan, Progress on the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) initiatives and Green Sindh initiatives.

On the occasion, COAS Gen Munir expressed resolve on the government and law enforcement agencies' (LEAs) behalf to curb illegal activities in the country.

“LEAs and other government departments will continue the enforcement actions against a spectrum of illegal activities with full force to deny pilferage of resources and economic losses that the country suffers due to these activities," the army chief said.

He also underscored the need for synergy among all relevant departments for the gainful effects of the landmark initiatives.

The participants affirmed that state institutions, government departments and people are united for the progress and prosperity of the province, the ISPR added.

It is pertinent to mention that the caretaker government earlier this week had announced the November 1 deadline for the illegal "aliens" to leave the county voluntarily.

The decision came days after a deadly suicide blast in Balochistan’s Mastung, in which over 60 people lost their lives. In most of the recent terror incidents in Pakistan, Afghan nationals or soil was reportedly used.

Pakistan expected to get $3.4bn from Geneva pledges for infrastructure development
[GEO.TV] Pakistain is expected to receive approximately $3.4 billion out of $10.9 billion pledges — committed by the international community for Pak flood victims in Geneva —as net funding to execute the infrastructure projects, The News reported on Saturday.

Out of the $10.9 billion pledges committed at Geneva, a major chunk of funding was committed in shape of commodities financing, oil facility, and re-purpose of funds so the net funding was left only for execution of development projects for flood-affected areas.

An in-depth analysis of $10.9 billion pledges shows that the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) committed $4.2 billion through ITFC for commodities and oil financing over a period of three years. The remaining commitment stood at $6.7 billion.

The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) committed $1 billion for an oil facility which is expected to expire in December 2023. The Gay Paree Club countries had pledged $1.2 billion so the remaining amount was standing at $4.5 billion.

Officials said the multilateral creditors had re-purposed around $1.127 billion for flood-affected areas out of which the World Bank re-purposed $299 million, Asian Development Bank (ADB) $78 million, and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) $750 million.

After excluding the re-purpose funding of $1.1 billion, the remaining pledged net amount for construction in floor-hit areas stood at just $3.4 billion.

Now the Government of Pakistain has approved the execution of almost 13 development schemes for flood-affected areas out of which six projects were approved for Sindh, five projects for Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, and one project each for Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The progress on the ground has so far been dismally slow in Balochistan.

As far as the disbursement of the committed amount is concerned, Pakistain has only received $1.48 billion in shape of both project loans and commodities financing from multilateral and bilateral creditors out of total Geneva pledges of $10.9 billion.

#1  UPDATED: JULY 13, 2023
In June, Pakistan was in a race against time to secure $1.1 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a bid to solve its worst economic crisis since gaining independence from Britain in 1947. Days before an existing bailout package, the country’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, held last-minute talks with the IMF after scrambling to meet its austerity conditions; he pledged to revise Pakistan’s budget by hiking tax rates and cutting spending.
That led to a dramatic reversal from the global lender: it announced a bigger-than-expected conditional loan of $3 billion, which the IMF calls a stand-by arrangement (SBA). On July 12, the IMF approved the deal, allowing for an immediate disbursement of about $1.2 billion.
Money down a rathole.
