Burhan reaffirms commitment to democratic transition, distances himself from Islamists
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Speaking from Egypt, the leader of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reiterated his dedication to the principles of democratic transition and the orderly transfer of authority to civilian hands. He also vehemently dismissed any notion of the military attempting to return power to the Islamists in Sudan.

In a span of less than a week since departing from Khartoum, al-Burhan embarked on a journey to the Mediterranean city of El Alamein in Egypt on Tuesday, where he engaged in discussions with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency revealed that the meeting centred on assessing the situation within Sudan and delved into endeavours aimed at resolving the Sudanese crisis, all with the intention of safeguarding the illusory sovereignty, unity, and cohesion of the Sudanese state.

Following the meeting, al-Burhan, in a series of press statements, expressed his motive for visiting Egypt. He aimed to rectify misconceptions about the army’s stance and to update the Egyptian leadership on the prevailing situation and the most recent developments.

"We implore the global powers to perceive this conflict with accuracy and impartiality," he underscored.

Al-Burhan pointed the finger at the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for pursuing this conflict to seize power, stressing their willingness to commit grave atrocities in pursuit of this objective. He alluded to incidents of violence, looting, and the confiscation of civilian properties.

He then emphatically stated that the military harbored no ambitions to usurp power and govern the nation or to reinstate the Islamists to authority.

"We within the military are steadfast in our commitment to establish an authentic transitional phase, paving the way for the Sudanese people to shape their governance through open and equitable elections, allowing them to select their preferred leaders."

"Similarly, baseless allegations have arisen, suggesting that the armed forces have evolved into enablers for past regimes and Islamist or bully boy factions. This issue has now transformed into a scarecrow wielded by those aspiring to manipulate the Sudanese populace.

Britain
Ben Wallace steps down as UK defense chief
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

London , August 31, 2023, 10:24 am - IA Regnum. British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has resigned. This was reported on August 31 on the website of the British government.

Wallace sent his resignation to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak . “After much deliberation, I have made the decision to ask for permission to step down from my position,” the official letter reads.

He also added that, in his opinion, one should not go back to the times when defense spending was considered optional. Over the next decade, instability will increase in the world, he said, so it's time to invest in defense.

In July, IA Regnum reported that Wallace could leave his post, which he has held since the summer of 2019. The possibility of his resignation from his post is associated with the reshuffle in the government being prepared by Sunak, with the help of which he intends to present a fresher team to the public before the parliamentary elections.

Wallace later said he wanted to retire from politics amid a planned cabinet reshuffle. He said that he intended to return to "normal life" and engage in activities that had nothing to do with either politics or national defense.

#1  Live boy or dead girl? Or, did the Brits (under Wallace) plan the Ukrainian "counteroffensive"?

#2  From Wikipedia - After training as a cadet at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, in June 1991 Wallace was commissioned into the Scots Guards as a second lieutenant, with a short service commission.[13] From 1991 to 1998, he served in Germany, Cyprus, Belize, and Northern Ireland.[2] In April 1993, he was promoted lieutenant,[14] and later that year was mentioned in dispatches[15] for an incident in Belfast where the patrol he was commanding captured an entire IRA active service unit (ASU) attempting to carry out a bomb attack against British troops.[2][16] The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) later said that no one arrested as a result of the patrol was prosecuted.[17] In 1996 he was promoted captain.[18]

Wallace was on duty on the night of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and was a member of the party sent to Paris to bring home her body.[19]

In June 1998, Wallace transferred from the Active List to the Regular Army Reserve of Officers as a captain, thereby ending his active service and beginning a period of call-up liability.[20] He later explained that he had decided against seeking to become a regular officer and to continue after the age of thirty, as the part of the work he had really enjoyed was commanding soldiers, and this was likely to diminish after that point.[10]

Wallace is a member of the Royal Company of Archers, a ceremonial unit that serves as the Sovereign's bodyguard in Scotland. As such, he participated in the vigil over the Queen's coffin as she lay in state in Westminster Hall on 15 September 2022.[21]

#3  I can think of a number of American officials who, if they had the slightest bit of integrity, would follow Mr. Wallace's example by tendering the letters of resignation. A great deal of instability in the world can be laid directly at their feet. Anyone who had anything to do with Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria or Ukraine should be ashamed of themselves.

Gunmen of a private housing society thrash cops in Sialkot
[GEO.TV] On August 18, a Facebook user shared a clip of several men surrounding and thrashing two uniformed coppers on a main road.

The user alleged that one of the coppers seen in the video was Tahir Naqash, posted in Daska, Sialkot.

"This is very sad to see," the user wrote, "Is there no respect for the police? Is the Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

police so weak?"

The caption added that none of the men who attacked the police have been arrested.

The post has been viewed over 27,500 times, to date.

Another Facebook user wrote that the button men of a private housing society had clobbered SHO Tahir Naqash.

A similar claim took off on the messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, here, here and here.

The Sialkot police confirm that an SHO and other cops were indeed tortured by the private button men of Aghaz Housing Society in the city.

Khurram Shahzad, a public relations officer at the district police office (DPO), told Geo Fact Check over the phone that on August 14, the Independence Day, the administration of the housing society had installed loudspeakers on a roof, which was a violation of the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act 2015.

Shahzad added that when the police tried to stop them, the society’s button men threatened and tortured the police. He explained that to date four men have been arrested.

"The men were also armed," Shahzad said, "Police recovered weapons from them."

Geo Fact Check has seen a copy of the police complaint.

Furthermore, a statement shared with Geo Fact Check by the spokesperson of the inspector general of Punjab Police also confirms that four men have been cuffed in connection to the violence, and the police have also recovered two rifles and one Kalashnikov from the arrested.

Separately, Geo Fact Check reached out to the management of the housing society for a comment, but has not received a response till the filing of this report.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US Strategic Command Hosts Iran Terror Apologist to Lecture Them
U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM) tapped Hussein Mousavian, a former member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team who works as a Middle East security and nuclear policy specialist at Princeton University, to headline its 2023 Deterrence Symposium, a high-level powwow that brought the former Iranian official shoulder-to-shoulder with America’s top military brass.

Mousavian’s appearance at the mid-August gathering, which came to light on Monday after STRATCOM posted a video of the event, drew criticism from former U.S. officials and veteran Iran analysts who questioned why America’s premier military outfit would host someone who maintains close ties to the Islamic Republic.
