Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief July 14, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • WOMEN PROTEST CLOSURES OF BEAUTY SALONS – Citing serious economic ramifications of forcing roughly 12,000 places of business to close, salon owners and those employed in the beauty industry protested last week at the headquarters of the Union of Women’s Beauty Salons. Many who were interviewed about the new policy said the career was one of the few left to women in a country that is increasingly resembling the Afghanistan of the 1990s. Many of the women who spoke to journalists say the world has turned its back on them and there are no options for the many widows and primary incomes for households. Those few voices that urged moderation and more liberalized treatment of women have now been silenced and the Deobandist school of ‘thought’ is settling over Afghanistan like a grain sack.

  • KABUL’S WATER PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE – Drinking water in the capital is scarce and getting scarcer. Private companies that are selling drinking water have ballooned in 2023 and private citizens who have contracted for these services are often told they must come in and sign new contracts with the ever-present fee increases. For its part, the Taliban’s Directorate of Water says there is no emergency and the system is working as it should. Normal citizens are left to purify water themselves and this often involves boiling the liquid which adds additional expenses for the fuel required. It is not clear how widespread the problem is in other parts of the country but Kabul is definitely facing a crisis. According to the US Center for Disease Control, there are some approved methods of purifying water at home and we have included those in THIS LINK.

  • POPULAR RADIO STATION IN BALKH FORCED TO SHUTTER OPERATIONS – Nehad Radio has suspended its programming due to financial difficulties. Costs associated with powering the station were cited as the primary reason the station has been forced to close but other issues were contributing factors. Among those listed was a lack of funding from external supporters and challenges that all media outlets are facing with regard to accessing information. The station had been in operation for sixteen years but was reeling from a questionable fire that took place earlier this year that damaged equipment. In total, 25 people have lost their jobs (7 of whom are women) as a result of the closure.

  • PAKISTAN’S PM COMMITS TO HANDING OVER GOVERNMENT POWER TO INTERIM GOVERNMENT IN AUGUST – Yesterday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed the country that his government will vacate its role in August and let an interim government lead it through the election period. The expected date of transfer is said to be 14 August. Pakistan’s constitution allows for several methods of naming an interim leader but the process is expected to be contentious. Political party leaders have already begun meeting to decide on an interim Prime Minister.

Arabia
Yemen's chief negotiator attributes economic collapse to foreign-backed interference
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The head of the delegation representing the National Salvation Government, Mohammed Abdulsalam, attributed economic collapse in southern provinces to "aggression, blockade, and conflict between divergent agendas sponsored by outside", stating it is a natural result.

Abdulsalam reviewed, in a tweet on his account on Twitter, the reasons that led to the catastrophe of the economic collapse taking place in the areas of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
under the control of the Saudi-led coalition.

"The arbitrary steps that affected the economic file by the countries of aggression and their mercenaries, such as transferring functions of the central bank from Sanaa, printing a new currency, and other arbitrary steps over the past years, were the cause of the disaster," Abdulsalam said.

He emphasized the need to allocate oil and gas revenues to address the Yemeni people’s economic problems, primarily salaries, and remove economic blackmail for military or political goals, adding that this will alleviate suffering and ensure the country’s ability to address the economic crisis.

Local currency in coalition-controlled areas has experienced rapid deterioration, as the price of one dollar reached approximately 1,500 Yemeni riyals.

As a result of the currency reaching this level of deterioration, the southern and eastern provinces witnessed a wave of angry protests, during which citizens demanded the departure of the coalition, while shops closed their doors for fear of the repercussions of this deterioration.

Britain
British terrorist of Syrian jihadi group released before end of sentence
[NPASyria] With several years left for the completion of his sentence, the British terrorist Yusuf Zubair Sarwar was released from prison in the United Kingdom (UK) only after nine years behind bars.

Sarwar, now 31, and a friend of him travelled to Syria in May 2013 to join "Kataib al-Muhajireen," an al-Qaeda linked terrorist group, after contacting Islamic snuffies who were fighting against the Syrian government.

Sarwar and his childhood friend Mohammed Nahin Ahmed were tossed in the calaboose
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
and branded "dangerous" in 2014 after pleading guilty for joining a terrorist group in Syria, they were sentenced to 12 years and eight months with an extended license period of five years.

At the time of their sentencing, a judge said that he had imposed a longer license term of 17 years and eight months after reaching the "clear conclusion" that Sarwar and Ahmed "were dangerous."

On their arrival in the UK in 2014, traces of military-grade explosives were found on their clothes.

Sarwar was released from jail on license after a Parole Board hearing in April 2022, and he was required to serve two-thirds of his custodial sentence before being considered for release.

A spokesperson for the Parole Board said, "We can confirm that a panel of the Parole Board has directed the release of Yusuf Sarwar following an oral hearing."

Israel and allies foiled 50 Iranian terror plots in recent years, Gallant says
[IsraelTimes] During official visit to Azerbaijan, defense minister accuses Tehran of leading ’worldwide terror campaign’ against Israeli and Jewish targets

Israel and allied nations foiled more than 50 attacks Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
had attempted to carry out against Israelis and Jews across the world in recent years, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said during a visit to Azerbaijan on Thursday.

Iran has been engaged in a shadow war with Israel for years, with Tehran accusing Jerusalem of being behind a series of sabotage attacks and liquidations targeting its nuclear program, carried out alongside the US. Israel in turn, has mutually accused Iran of attempting to target Israelis and Jews abroad, as well as numerous cyberattacks against the Jewish state.

"In recent years, Iran has been leading a worldwide terror campaign, with unprecedented scope, targeting Israelis and Jews around the world," Gallant told news hounds during an official trip to Azerbaijan.

"There have been more than 50 attempted attacks in recent years. Most of them were ready to go, and were foiled at the last moment," he said.

"Thanks to our defense establishment, thanks to close cooperation with many countries, and thanks to the understanding that Iran is a global threat, we foiled these attempts and saved lives," Gallant added.

Earlier on Thursday, Gallant met with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, as he began his two-day visit signifying the burgeoning relationship between the two countries.

Gallant and Aliyev discussed recent regional and global events, as well as ways to boost strategic ties and cooperation against shared challenges, the defense minister’s office said in a statement.

"In this regard, they also touched on areas of security and industrial cooperation," the readout said. "Minister Gallant expressed his appreciation to the President for his leadership and personal commitment to deepening the bond between their countries, starting with the opening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel."

"The discussion built on the previous meeting held between the leaders this year, within the framework of the Munich Security Conference," the statement added.

Gallant later met with Azerbaijan’s defense minister, Col. Gen. Zakir Hasanov; State Border Service chief Col. Gen. Elchin Guliyev; and other senior defense officials.

He was accompanied by his chief of staff, Shachar Katz; military secretary Brig. Gen. Guy Markizeno; and the director of the ministry’s Political-Military Bureau, Dror Shalom.

According to a Defense Ministry statement on Wednesday, the visit was to focus on bolstering strategic ties in "diplomacy, security, and technology."

Gallant’s arrival came two days after Baku announced it had arrested a 23-year-old Afghan national on suspicion of planning an attack on Israel’s embassy.
That would be Fawzan Musa Khan, about whom very little is known, despite having his passport.

Europe
Migrant aid charities complain to EU over Italian law
[AlAhram] Five charities that help migrants colonists said Thursday they had complained to the European Commission about a new Italian law forcing rescue ships in the Mediterranean to dock in far-off ports.

The non-governmental organizations -- Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Oxfam Italia, SOS Humanity, Association for Juridical Studies on Immigration and EMERGENCY -- argue the legislation breaks EU and international laws regarding sea rescues.

"The European Commission is the guardian of EU treaties and has a role to play in ensuring that EU member states respect international and EU law," a migration policy advisor with Oxfam Italia, Giulia Capitani, said.

"Every day we spend away from the search and rescue region, whether in detention or navigating towards a distant port, is putting lives at risk," said an MSF operations manager, Djoen Besselink.

The European Commission confirmed to AFP it had received the complaint. "We will look into it," said a spokesperson.

Italia passed a law in February limiting charity-run ships carrying out more than one sea rescue at a time and -- having done so -- requires them to dock at a port assigned by Italian authorities. It came into effect in March.

In practice, the NGOs say, that means rescue ships are forced to ignore other emergencies on the water, and spend days sailing to northern Italian ports even though closer ones are available.

Italia is ruled by a far-right government that has vowed to crack down on migrant boat arrivals.

The five charities called on the European Commission to put Italia's law and designations of remote ports under "immediate scrutiny".

They also appealed for their ships to be included in a "state-led and proactive" search and rescue system in the Mediterranean.

Germany refuses to export Eurofighter aircraft to Saudi Arabia
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] German Chancellor Olaf Scholz ruled out on Wednesday the possibility of his country providing Eurofighter fighter jets to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. Scholz added that it is not expected that these deliveries will be allowed soon, confirming the information provided by the newspaper "Suddeutsche Zeitung" about the suspension of German arms exports to Saudi Arabia until the end of the war on Yemen.

Would-be illegal immigrants start returning to Gujrat from Libya
[Dawn] Many of the Pak nationals intending to enter Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
illegally via sea route have started returning home from Libya after fleeing the safe houses of human traffickers in the wake of the boat tragedy occurring off the Greece coast in June.

At least 40 to 50 such persons have returned from Libya to their homes only in Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin districts during more than last week, says a local bigwig of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Talking to Dawn, he says these potentially illegal immigrants colonists had paid at least Rs2.5 million each to different human traffickers or their agents for reaching Italia through sea route and had been waiting in Libya for their turn to proceed further.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
he says the deaths of hundreds of people, including Pak nationals, in the boat capsize incident last month frightened these would-be illegal immigrants colonists, making them return home.

On reaching home, they have started lodging complaints against the human traffickers to reclaim the amounts they had paid to the human traffickers, he adds.

Earlier, on Friday, Usman Siddique, the last of the total 12 Pak nationals who survived the boat tragedy, returned to his home at Kaleki village near Gujrat.

Siddique, a constable of Gujrat police, claimed around 20,000 illegal immigrants colonists are waiting for their turn to travel to Italia at the safe houses of human traffickers in Libya. Now he advises everyone, especially youths, against risking their lives for greener pastures.

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa spent the day shopping for new underwear. Tonight was going to be a special occasion...
Irtaza Ansar Warraich, Station House Officer of Gujrat FIA cop shoppe claims the agency has arrested four more alleged human traffickers from Kharian and Mandi Bahauddin.

So far, at least 35 suspects involved in illegal human trafficking have been arrested, including a notorious trafficker, Saleem Suniara, by FIA Gujrat circle since the boat incident, he adds.

He says in the last four weeks around 125 cases have been registered against human traffickers in connection with the boat tragedy. The complainants also include those recently returning from Libya, he adds.

Most of these cases have been lodged under the Prevention of Smuggling of Moslem colonists Migrants’ Act 2018 and Immigration Ordinance, he says.

Iraq
Deputy Police Commander identified among 27 other victims of Speicher massacre
[Shafaq News] An official security source in Saladin confirmed today, Thursday, the identification of the body of a deputy police commander among the names of 27 victims of the Speicher massacre, as announced by the Ministry of Health.

This morning, the Iraqi Ministry of Health announced the identification of 27 names as part of a new batch of victims of the Speicher massacre, which was perpetrated by ISIS in 2014.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that the forensic department in Baghdad has completed the process of identifying the identities of 27 individuals, including Deputy Commander of Saladin Operations, Brigadier General Issam Mut’ib Ahmed al-Azzawi, among the victims of the Speicher military base.

ISIS holy warriors ruthlessly executed approximately 2,000 individuals, including aviation college students and security personnel, inside the renowned "Speicher" military base in Saladin province when they seized control of the area in June 2014.

At the time, ISIS grabbed credit for the incident and disseminated images and videos depicting the holy warriors besieging soldiers within the military base before opening fire on them at close range.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Reservists reject PM’s shouted accusations they are harming national security
[IsraelTimes] After recordings were aired on television networks of Prime Minister Netanyahu screaming about the danger posed by reservists’ threat to refuse to show up for duty, a group of former special forces soldiers rejects the premier’s outburst.

Netanyahu was heard raging at the prospect of soldiers refusing to serve due to his government’s efforts to overhaul the judiciary.

"I can’t imagine anything more serious, organizing a mass effort to break the law... It’s inconceivable... This harms the body of the state, national security."

The special forces alumni respond: "He understands that he, and only he, is dismantling the country and the defense establishment. Don’t talk to us about ’state security’ when you are rushing toward a Russian- or Iranian-style dictatorship."

A separate group of alumni of the Intelligence Branch say Netanyahu’s recordings "show he understands the damage to security as a result of government actions. Responsibility for state security is in his hands."

The large Brothers in Arms protest group of reservists says Netanyahu "is personally destroying national security and relations with the US... He should immediately stop legislation that is tearing the nation apart and face the fact that an army of the people can exist only in a democracy."

Journalist who claimed Palestinian Authority arrests dissidents arrested by PA
[IsraelTimes] An outspoken critic of the PA, Akil Awawdeh was previously beaten by Paleostinian police.

Paleostinian security forces have detained a Paleostinian journalist after he wrote critical posts on social media, an activist group said Thursday.

The committee of families of political detainees said that Akil Awawdeh was arrested earlier Thursday after he disparaged claims by a front man for the security services that there are no political arrests in the West Bank.

"For God’s sake," he wrote on Facebook. "You should respect our minds more than that."

Awawdeh, a news hound for a local radio station, is an outspoken critic of the Paleostinian Authority and has had problems with security forces before. Two years ago, he was severely beaten inside a cop shoppe after covering a protest against the Paleostinian Authority.

Human rights groups have repeatedly accused Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
of stifling dissent by arresting people who write critical posts on social media and employing harsh tactics to disperse protests.

Paleostinian officials had no immediate comment on Awadeh’s arrest.

The committee of families of political detainees is affiliated with the rival Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group. It says it aims to raise awareness about politically motivated arrests in the West Bank.

The Paleostinian Authority governs semi-autonomous zones in the West Bank.

Right-wingers block entrances to kibbutzim in response to anti-overhaul protesters
Interesting.
[IsraelTimes] Pro-overhaul demonstrators blocked the entrances to two kibbutz communities
...still pretty communist in how they handle internal finances, I understand, though kibbutz business ventures have necessarily become capitalist — the kibbutzim that could not make that change did not survive...
in central Israel today, saying it was a response to anti-overhaul protesters blocking roads across the country.

The demonstrators used vehicles to prevent cars from coming in or out at Yakum and Shefayim.

Likud activist Yigal Malka said, "We’re blocking the entrance to kibbutzim because kibbutzim are responsible for the most blockages."
Alinsky is not an exclusively leftwing set of techniques — anyone can use ‘em.
Since the attorney general said "there is no effective protest without disrupting public order, we’re simply fulfilling the instructions of the attorney general," he added.

Translated from Hebrew by Google:
The right-wing stops being silent: the residents of the center who suffered from the road blockade on Monday went out today to several kibbutzim and blocked the road for the residents of the kibbutz from which they went to block the roads on Monday.
"You disrupt us, we disrupt you"

IDF ends joint week-long drill with US Air Force including long-range strikes
Who are they prepping for?
[IsraelTimes] The Israel Defense Forces wraps up a joint air drill with the United States Central Command, the third in a series of exercises this year.

In a statement, the IDF says the week-long drill, dubbed Juniper Oak, is "part of the cooperation and close relations with the United States, even at this time," likely referring to political tensions between the Israeli and US government.

The drill included Israeli and American fighter jets carrying out "long-range strategic strike missions in areas with simulated multiple threats, electronic warfare and area defense against hostile aircraft infiltration," according to the IDF.

Also during the drill, Israeli Air Force fighter jets refueled from American Boeing KC-10 and KC-46 tankers, the latter of which Israel has ordered four and is expected to receive the first in 2025.

For Israel, the KC-46 aircraft are seen as necessary to conduct potential major strikes against targets in Iran, some 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) from Israel and far outside the normal flight range of Israeli jets.

The IDF says the third installment of Juniper Oak serves as preparation for a major upcoming drill, dubbed Blue Flag.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey deports 22 Syrian refugees to Idlib
[NPASyria] On Thursday, Ottoman Turkish authorities deported 22 Syrian refugees, including women and kiddies, to areas in Idlib, northwest Syria, via the Bab al-Hawa border crossing.

A source from the Bab al-Hawa crossing informed North Press that "Ottoman Turkish authorities deported 22 Syrians through the crossing, including minors and four women, without informing their relatives residing in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
about the detention and deportation of their children."

The Ottoman Turkish authorities took their fingerprints and all their identification documents to prevent them from returning to Turkey permanently.

Ottoman Turkish-held border crossings in northern Syria have been witnessing daily deportations of Syrian refugees as part of a systematic process by Ottoman Turkish authorities against Syrians residing in Turkey.
