Afghanistan
Taliban Announce Reopening of Universities, but Only for Male Students
De facto Taliban
...Arabic for students...
authorities have announced the reopening of state-run universities in the Afghan capital, Kabul, and several other cities, but say only male students will be allowed to attend.

"According to a decision by the Supreme Council for Higher Education," reads a short statement from the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education, "studies of the male students at governmental higher education institutions in the colder provinces will officially start from [March 6] of the current year."

Schools and universities go on annual winter break in about 24 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.

The Islamist government banned higher education for female students last year, saying women had not appropriately observed gender-based religious restrictions under the prior government, which was backed by the United States.

Thousands of women in Afghanistan likely to be punished for adultery after Taliban invalidates divorces
[LiveMint] The oppression of women under the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
regime of Afghanistan continues as now thousands face the threat of prosecution for adultery after the government declared their divorces as invalid, which automatically invalidates their second marriage. The declaration is another nail in the coffin of women's rights in Afghanistan after the regime snatched away their employment and education.

Under the previous government, the women were granted one-sided divorce helping them to escape abusive and drug-addicted husbands. Some of these women remarried to start a new life, but the extreme imposition of Islamic law by the Taliban is making these women vulnerable to imprisonment or other types of violent mostly peaceful punishments for the crime of adultery, a report from Washington Post said.

The divorces were complex earlier also, but as the previous Afghanistan regime tried to remain closer to the ’democratic’ western world, it started allowing it on a case-to-case basis.

Taliban sources didn't have much to share about changes in the divorce law but said that under Islamic law, both parties should appear before a judge in divorce cases.

The reports from the country also reveal that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in Afghanistan to provide emotional and financial support to victims of such domestic violence have also been closed on the Taliban's orders. The functionaries of some of these institutions are also punished for having an anti-Islamic stand.

Several international organizations have highlighted the brutal crackdown on women's rights in Afghanistan and warned that the Taliban is effectively working to remove women from public life. "Women who peacefully protested against these oppressive rules have been threatened, arrested, detained, tortured, and forcibly disappeared," Amnesia Amnesty International said.

The oppressive measures against women are also aggravating the economic woes of the country. A report by the International Crisis Group (ICG) states that the donors are turning their back on Afghanistan followings its conservative policies, especially towards women.

Many western countries and even private donors have canceled their donations to the country fearing backlash from their own people for funding such an oppressive regime.

Afghans ‘fleeing the Taliban’ allowed into South Africa as asylum seekers
[TimesLiveZA] A Pretoria high court order to grant 22 Afghans fleeing the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
access to South Africa on asylum transit visas will stand.

The department of home affairs (DHA) has confirmed that Tuesday's judgment is final.

Home affairs refused the Afghans entry into South Africa despite a court order that the government should grant them permission to seek asylum. It was issued after a US NGO argued the group might be victimised by the Taliban.

The department, which said it was notified of the pending court proceedings after the fact, challenged the order.

Qoza said on February 15, home affairs received a letter from attorneys representing the people. It demanded asylum transit visas be issued to them at the Beitbridge port of entry.

"While DHA was preparing a response to the letter, on February 16, a group of 22 Afghanistan nationals in the company of American citizens arrived at the Beitbridge port of entry and requested to be issued with asylum transit visas in order for them to enter the Republic of South Africa to apply for asylum. The immigration officer refused to do so as they were all issued with multiple-entry tourist visas by the government of the Republic of Zim-bob-we on January 20," he said.

The lawyers representing the Afghans approached the court on an urgent basis (in the absence of the DHA) and the court granted the interim order allowing them to be issued with asylum transit visas, Qoza said.

"The court, however, allowed the DHA to anticipate the interim order within 24 hours. The DHA did exactly that and the court refused to confirm the interim order to allow the DHA to file answering papers. The matter was heard by the court on February 20 2023. Judgment was reserved."

Arabia
Al-Islah Military Commander Meets With Officials in Riyadh Following Losses to UAE-Backed STC
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] A military commander loyal to the Islah party, the "archenemy" of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), has arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

Informed political sources said that Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
summoned the Special Security Force commander, Brigadier General Abd Rabbo Laakab, from the Omani city of "Salalah" to Riyadh, amid news that he was returned to Shabwah at the head of Saudi-backed "Dara al-Watan" forces.

The sources pointed out that Saudi Arabia is making an arrangement for the return of Laakab to Shabwa, as a number of military leaders who were expelled by the "STC" militia in mid-August retuned to the province.

The STC militia looted the house of the leader Laakab, and a number of other military leaders who were returned by Saudi Arabia this week to Aden, including Jahdal Hanash.

It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia is moving to return the leader Mohammed Saleh bin Adio to Shabwah, after his overthrow at the end of 2021, and to return Ramzi Mahrous, former governor of Socotra affiliated with the coalition, who was expelled by the UAE-backed militia with the complicity of Saudi forces in June 2020.

At least 45 cases of food poisoning due to expired Emirati food aid in Socotra
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] A total of 45 citizens suffered from severe food poisoning due to expired UAE food aid in the occupied Socotra archipelago, southern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
According to media reports, 45 cases of poisoning, including women and kiddies, were taken to Qalansiyah Hospital on Friday after experiencing acute food poisoning as a result of expired aid delivered earlier this month.

The sources added that the medical staff at Qalansiyah Hospital declared an emergency due to the limited services offered to patients and a lack of various drugs and medical supplies.

The food aid has decayed and is unsafe for human consumption as a result of improper storage over the last few years, according to the reports.

Ansarullah leading member: all colonial projects in Yemen will fail
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Member of the Political Bureau of Ansarullah, Ali al-Qahoum, confirmed on Saturday that "the colonial projects in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
will not have any power, and the occupiers’ hands will be cut off."

In a series of tweets on Twitter, al-Qahoum referred to the overt influx of the invading American forces into Mahrah and Hadhramaut provinces, considering this "a continuous criminal trend and a flagrant violation of Yemeni illusory sovereignty and international law."

The creation of foreign military bases and their intense presence off the Yemeni coasts and islands, including Bab al-Mandab, with the official visits of the American ambassador and foreign diplomat delegations, is "a deliberate insistence on their presence and occupation," he explained.

Al-Qahoum affirmed that "Yemen is facing huge American-British challenges and conspiracies, and it is imperative for all Yemeni people to act with absolute national responsibility."

He called for a national consensus, pushing for a massive revolution to expel the occupiers, to restore wealth and geographic illusory sovereignty, and to preserve national illusory sovereignty and independence.

Al-Qahoum addressed the Americans and the British by saying: "Your colonial projects in Yemen will not have power, your hands will be cut off, you will be forced to leave whatever you have, and your occupation will end."

Launching election campaign, Imran Khan says ready to 'forgive attackers'
[GEO.TV] Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf

(PTI) Chairman Imran Khan

said Saturday that he is ready to "forgive" those who had orchestrated an "attack" against him — in November last year — as he launched the election campaign in two provinces — Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

Khan was shot in the legs on November 3 as he waved to crowds from a truck-mounted container while leading a protest march to Islamabad to pressure the government into announcing an early election.

The rally was cut short in Rawalpindi, where Khan announced his plan of dissolving the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab

The PTI chief — whose government was tossed in April last year — had blamed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and a military officer for being involved in the alleged liquidation plot.

Ever since his ouster, the PTI chief has kept criticising the military, the Pakistain Democratic Movement-led government, and other institutions for being involved in an alleged plot to remove his party from power.

Pak trying to push militants, weapons to revive terror: DGP
[Daily Excelsior] Director General of Police Dilbag Singh today said Pakistain is trying to push more terrorists, drugs and weapons into Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, where the graph of militancy is on decline with security agencies determined to finish terrorism.

He termed the recovery of seven kilograms of heroin, over Rs 2 crore and arms and ammunition from a house of a notorious drug peddler near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district as a "big success", saying the security forces are working comprehensively to dismantle the entire support structure of terrorism in the Union Territory.

"We have checked infiltration (of terrorists) through underground (tunnels) and overground channels, but Pakistain is still making continuous efforts to push the murderous Moslems in large numbers into this side," the DGP told news hounds on the sidelines of a function in Samba district.

He said the infiltration bids are made to fill the krazed killer ranks and upscale the graph of terrorism which is on decline.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
police along with other security agencies are alert to frustrate any attempt to disrupt peace and determined to finish terrorism from J&K, Singh said.

"Strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere," he said.

The police chief said besides pushing terrorists, Pakistain is also involved in smuggling of drugs and weapons into this side.

Referring to the seizure of drugs and money in Poonch on Friday, he said police and other security agencies "had a very big success in the fight against narco-terrorism".

Counter Insurgency wing revived to hit at terror support network in J&K
[Daily Excelsior] In a major decision aimed at further strengthening Intelligence network to hit at terror ecosystem, the administration has ordered revival of Counter Insurgency (CI) unit of the CID immediately in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. with headquarters at Jammu and Srinagar which was the case when the unit was brought under the control of CID Special Branch in April 2022.

"The Counter Insurgency unit of the CID which once functioned as full-fledged Intelligence gathering unit against the terrorism was brought under operational control of Special Branch on April 11, 2022, which works as verification unit and oversees political side.

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
the CI wing has once again been revived as full-fledged separate entity as the need was felt for Intelligence gathering against terror ecosystem," official sources told the Excelsior.

"To ensure the revival of Counter Intelligence as a separate vertical, the manpower of CI Jammu and Srinagar, working under the operation control of SSP Special Branch Jammu and Srinagar, has been detached with immediate effect to work under operational control and command of the SSP CI Jammu and Srinagar," an official order said.

Recently, the Government ordered posting of SSPs Counter Intelligence in Jammu as well as Srinagar.

Sources said the manpower of Counter Intelligence, which was working under operation control of Special Branch, has been withdrawn and it will now be part of the Counter Intelligence at Jammu and Srinagar besides all district headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Special Investigation Agency (SIA), constituted by the Government on the lines of NIA, which was also drawing manpower from the CID, has got its sanctioned strength and will function as separate entity.

"Now, there will be three separate wings including the Counter Intelligence, which will exclusively focus on gathering Intelligence about terror network across Jammu and Kashmir, Special Branch which will focus on verifications and political side and SIA which will be the investigating wing in major terror-related cases," sources said, adding all these measures are aimed at hitting at the terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.

Islamabad Has 'Unique Distinction' For Hosting Most UNSC-Designated Terrorists

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
New Palestinian terror factions emerge amid deadly West Bank unrest
[IsraelTimes] Bands of young Paleostinians are increasingly taking up guns against Israel and defying PA, with Nablus-based Lion’s Den providing inspiration.

The stuttering blasts of M-16s shattered the quiet in a West Bank village, surrounded by barley fields and olive groves. Young Paleostinian men in Jaba once wanted to farm, residents say, but now, more and more want to fight.

Last week, dozens of them, wearing balaclavas and brandishing rifles with photos of their dead comrades plastered on the clips, burst into a school playground — showcasing Jaba’s new terror group and paying tribute to its founder and another gunman who were killed in an Israeli military raid last month.

"I’d hate to make my parents cry," said 28-year-old Yusef Hosni Hammour, a close friend of Izz a-Din Basem Hamamra, the group’s late founder. "But I’m ready to die a martyr."

Similar scenes are playing out across the West Bank. From the northern Jenin refugee camp to the southern city of Hebron, small groups of disillusioned young Paleostinians are taking up guns against Israel’s open-ended military control, defying Paleostinian politicians whom they scorn as collaborators with Israel.

With fluid and overlapping affiliations, these groups have no clear ideology and operate independently of traditional chains of command — even if they receive support from established terror groups. Fighters from Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
and other organizations attended last week’s ceremony in Jaba.

In near-daily arrest raids over the past year, Israel has sought to crush the fledgling militias, leading to a surge of deaths and unrest unseen in nearly two decades.

While Israel maintains the escalated raids are vital to prevent attacks, Paleostinians say the intensified violence has helped radicalize men too young to remember the massive Israeli crackdown in response to the deadly onslaught of suicide kabooms and other terror attacks of the second Paleostinian Intifada two decades ago, which has served as a deterrent to older Paleostinians.

This new generation has grown up uniquely stymied, in a territory riven by infighting and fragmented by barriers and checkpoints.

At least 64 Paleostinians have been killed since the beginning of the year, most of them while carrying out attacks or during festivities with security forces, but some were uninvolved civilians and others were killed under circumstances that are being investigated.

At least 15 Israelis have been killed in Paleostinian terror attacks in that time, including two brothers shot Sunday in the town of Hawara, just south of Jaba. In response, Israeli settlers torched dozens of buildings and cars.

"It’s like the new government released the hands of soldiers and settlers, and said now they can do whatever they want," said Jamal Khalili, a member of Jaba’s local council.

At the recent memorial service, children with black Death Eater bands on their foreheads gathered around the button men, eager for a glimpse of their heroes.

"The outcome is what you see here," Khalili added.

Last week, an Israeli military raid in the northern West Bank city of Nablus sparked a shootout with Paleostinian button men that killed 10 people. The raid targeted the most prominent of the emerging gangs, the Lion’s Den.

Israeli security officials claim the military has crippled the Nablus-based Lion’s Den over the past few months, killing or arresting most of its key members. But they acknowledge its button men, who roam the Old City of Nablus and pump out slick Telegram videos with a carefully honed message of heroic resistance, now inspire new attacks across the territory.

"The Lion’s Den is beginning to become an idea that we see all around," said an Israeli military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an intelligence assessment. Instead of hurling stones or Molotov cocktails, turbans now mainly open fire, he said, using M-16s often smuggled from Jordan or stolen from Israeli military bases.

The official said the army was monitoring the Jaba group and others in the northern cities of Jenin, Nablus and Tulkarem. But he acknowledged the army has difficulty gathering intelligence on the small, loosely organized terror groups.

The Paleostinian Authority, a self-rule government that administers parts of the West Bank, works closely with the Israeli military against its domestic rivals, particularly the terror group Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,, which runs the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip and openly seeks Israel’s destruction.

With young Paleostinians increasingly viewing the Paleostinian Authority as an arm of the Israeli security forces rather than the foundation for a future state, Paleostinian security forces are loath to intervene against the budding terror groups. Paleostinian forces now rarely venture into their strongholds like the Old City of Nablus and the Jenin refugee camp, according to residents and the Israeli military.

Jaba button men said the Paleostinian security forces have not cracked down on them. Residents said the group, founded last September, has rapidly grown to some 40-to-50 members.

Hammour described Paleostinian leaders as corrupt and out of touch with regular Paleostinians. But, he said, "Our goals are much bigger than creating problems with the Paleostinian Authority."

With the popularity of the PA plummeting, experts say it cannot risk inflaming tensions by arresting widely admired button men.

The PA "is experiencing a crisis of legitimacy," said Tahani Mustafa, Paleostinian analyst at the International Crisis Group. "There’s a huge disconnect between elites at the top and the groups on the ground."

Paleostinian officials acknowledge their grip is slipping.

"We fear any of our actions against [these group] will create a reaction in the street," said a Paleostinian intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
because he was not authorized to talk to news hounds.

With the Israeli military stepping up raids, the West Bank’s power structure faltering and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government expanding settlements, frustrated Paleostinians say they are not in pursuit of any Islamist or political agenda — they want to defend their towns and resist Israel’s 55-year-old control of the West Bank, which it captured from Jordan in the 1967 Six Day War.

For 28-year-old Mohammed Alawneh, whose two brothers were killed in confrontations with Israeli forces, two decades apart, the Jaba group is a "reaction." He said he could support peace if it meant the end of the occupation and the formation of a single state between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. For now, he said, it’s clear Israel doesn’t want peace.

, according to his mother, Lamia. After 10 agonizing months in an Israeli prison, he became religious and withdrawn. He spoke of taking Dire Revenge.

After his death, Lamia discovered he had helped form the Jaba group and that Islamic Jihad had supplied them with weapons, including the gun Hamamra fired at Israeli troops on January 14.

The army chased him into Jaba, killing Hamamra along with another gunman, Amjad Adnan Khaliliya, both of whom were identified by Islamic Jihad as members of the terror group. Their crushed and bloodstained car now sits in the center of Jaba like a macabre monument.

At his funeral, Lamia said Hamamrah’s friends urged her to show pride in a son who became a fighter and inspired the whole village.

But Lamia wept and wept. Her 14-year-old daughter, Malak, now wants to die a martyr, too.

"I’m just a mother who lost her son," Lamia said. "I want this all to stop."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran discovers large lithium deposit
[ArianaNews] Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
has announced the discovery of a large deposit of lithium, a key component of batteries for electric vehicles and electronic devices, Iran’s state media reported Saturday.

Mohammad Hadi Ahmadi, an official with the ministry of industry, mines and trade, was quoted in local media as saying: "For the first time in Iran, a lithium reserve has been discovered in Hamedan," which is in the west of the country.

Officials said this reserve is believed to hold 8.5 million tonnes of lithium.

Known as the "oil of the 21st century", lithium is essential for the manufacture of batteries for electric vehicles, and for the batteries of laptops and cell phones.

According to a United States Geological Survey (USGS) report published in 2022, a total of 89 million tons of lithium have been identified worldwide. Australia, Chile, Argentina
...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita...
and China are the main producers, New Arab reported.

In 2022, lithium prices skyrocketed due to rising component prices and general inflation, as demand for cleaner means of travel increased around the world.

Iran, whose economy is battered by severe international sanctions, particularly imposed by the United States, has substantial natural resources reserves, including gas, oil, copper, and iron.

#1  That's helpful.

Bipolar disorder
Lithium is primarily used as a maintenance drug in the treatment of bipolar disorder to stabilize mood and prevent manic episodes, but it may also be helpful in the acute treatment of manic episodes.

#2  Considering how Xi has been cozying up to Iran lately, I'll bet this fins has been known for a while.

Unrelated thought about Skid's post. Could the precipitous rise in crazy be due to the fact that most lithium is going to batteries rather than Lithobid?

Berri-Mouawad rift triggers flurry of fiery statements
[An Nahar] Independent MP and presidential candidate Michel Mouawad said Friday that he will not accept to be insulted, after Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
...Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians...
described him as an "in vitro experiment" candidate.

"What Berri said is not acceptable," Mouawad said. "We are not students in a classroom."

After meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years. It produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. That's three statements. Only the first is subjective....
Dorothy Shea, Mouawad said that he is proposing a project to "restore the state" and implement international resolutions. "This is not only our project, it is also a project for Lebanon," he went on to say.

In an interview with al-Akhbar newspaper published Thursday, Berri had described the opposition's presidential candidate as an "in vitro experiment", which infuriated Mouawad who hit back in a barb-filled statement, describing Berri as "a militiaman" and a "master of corruption."

Mouawad claimed that Berri's insult also targets Zgharta and the North, asking Berri's candidate Suleiman Franjieh, born in Zgharta, whether he accepts "the insult."

Al-Marada media office responded to Mouawad in a statement that supported Berri. "Berri is and will always be a man of dialogue," the statement said. "We hope that you (Mouawad) would return to Zgharta's values."

The Progressive Socialist Party also supported Berri, as it stated that "it would be preferable if some people heeded Berri's call for dialogue instead of distributing absurd accusations against him."

"In these difficult times, only dialogue is the way to salvation," the PSP said.

The Watani civil society alliance, and the Tajaddod parliamentary bloc supported Mouawad. The bloc refused in a statement, "the imposition of a president on parliament." "Berri doesn't have the right to impose his president," the bloc said.

Head of Foreign Affairs in the Lebanese Forces
A Christian political party founded by Bashir Gemayel, who was then bumped off when he was elected president of Leb...
Party, Richard Kouyoumjian, also supported Mouawad in a controversial tweet in which he replied to Berri's in-vitro description with a criticism of the Shiite Mutaa marriage, saying it is adultery and results in illegitimate children.

The remarks infuriated Hezbollah and the Higher Islamic Shiite Council, but Kouyoumjian later apologized, explaining that his remarks were political and not religious.

"I meant the political marriage between the Shiite Duo and Franjieh," Kouyoumjian said.

Geagea says rejected deal involving Franjieh election
[An Nahar] Lebanese Forces
A Christian political party founded by Bashir Gemayel, who was then bumped off when he was elected president of Leb...
leader Samir Geagea
...Geagea was imprisoned by the Syrians and their puppets for 11 years in a dungeon in the third basement level of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense. He was released after the Cedar Revolution in 2005...
has confirmed that he has rejected "domestic and foreign" proposals for the election of Suleiman Franjieh as president in return for the appointment of a pro-opposition premier.

In an interview with The Independent Arabia, Geagea also said that he does not believe that Hezbollah might back down from supporting Franjieh in the current period.

"But if it decides so, it will pick a candidate with no flavor, color, stance or personality, and we would take the same stance on such a candidate," Geagea added.

He also accused Hezbollah of seeking to secure the election of a president who would be 100% loyal to it and who would implement its policies, or else it would "block the elections."

Asked about his new stance on boycotting presidential election sessions, Geagea said it would be "idiotic" to facilitate the election of a pro-Hezbollah president after the president and its allies "changed the rules of the democratic game and suspended the constitution" for five months.

"They can’t obstruct when they want and then suddenly ask us to facilitate the election of their candidate," the LF leader added.

"When the negotiators asked me about the reason behind my rejection of Franjieh I clarified that the problem is not in the person of the Marada Movement
the personal militia of Suleiman Franjieh, president of Lebanon at the outbreak of the civil war, currently Syrian toadies, but you never know when that could change...
leader, but rather in making steps that would aggravate the crisis instead of resolving it," Geagea went on to say.

He added: "Should Franjieh become president, he will rule based on the force that he relied on to reach the presidency, which is Hezbollah and its allies."
