Arizona sheriff calls on Gov. Ducey to stop sending shipping containers to border for makeshift wall
[FoxNews] Santa Cruz County Sheriff David Hathaway said he'll start making arrests if the shipping crates come into the county.

An Arizona county sheriff said Saturday that he’s frustrated with Gov. Doug Ducey sending large shipping containers to the border in an effort to construct a makeshift border wall.

With the containers reaching within 6 miles of Santa Cruz County, Sheriff David Hathaway told FOX 10 Phoenix he’ll arrest anyone who tries to place them in the county, which he referred to as "illegal dumping."

"The area where they're placing the containers is entirely on federal land, on national forest land," the sheriff told the station. "It's not state land, it's not private land, and the federal government has said this [is] illegal activity. So just the way if I saw somebody doing an assault or a homicide or a vehicle theft on public land within my county, I would charge that person with a crime."

Ducey filed a lawsuit against the federal government in October when he was told to stop double stacking the more than 100 containers in the border wall gaps on federal and tribal lands near Yuma.

He has been ordering containers to the border since last summer.

"Our border communities are overwhelmed by illegal activity as a result of the Biden administration’s failure to secure the southern border," Ducey said in a statement at the time. "Arizona is taking action to protest on behalf of our citizens. With this lawsuit, we’re pushing back against efforts by federal bureaucrats to reverse the progress we’ve made. The safety and security of Arizona and its citizens must not be ignored. Arizona is going to do the job that Joe Biden refuses to do — secure the border in any way we can. We’re not backing down."

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and the governor’s office didn’t immediately return Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Britain
UK sentences head of Kurdish people-smuggling gang in absentia to 8 years' jail
We’ll move this story from WoT Background to WoT the day they catch him and actually throw him in prison instead of just making dramatic gestures like this.
[Rudaw] The convicted ringleader of a "large-scale" Kurdish people-smuggling gang, who is currently on the run, was on Friday sentenced in absentia to eight years in prison, Britannia's National Crime Agency (NCA) said.

Tarik Namik, 45, of Oldham near Manchester, northwest England, headed a "sophisticated, lucrative criminal enterprise" bringing Kurdish migrants colonists into the UK hidden in the back of lorries.

Working with people smugglers abroad, the organised crime group is suspected of smuggling at least 1,900 migrants colonists, who were picked up in the Balkans, into La Belle France or Germany during a 50-day period.

The gang then offered different means of trying to enter Britannia, where the migrants colonists would claim asylum.

Kurdish criminal groups control the increasingly lucrative cross-Channel illegal migration routes using both lorries and, more recently, small boats, according to the NCA.

A surge in the small vessel crossings since 2017 has led to tens of thousands of migrants colonists now arriving annually on England's southeastern coast by boat, rather than stowed away in trucks.

On Friday, AFP saw dozens of migrants colonists, who had made the sea journey despite freezing winter conditions, being brought ashore in Kent by Border Force and lifeboat volunteers.

Stepped-up law enforcement is thought to be among the reasons for the shift from lorries to small boats.

Alongside Namik, four other men -- based in Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent and Nottingham -- also received sentences ranging from nearly five years to 16 months for their role in the criminal scheme.

All five sentenced at Manchester Crown Court had admitted the charges against them at previous hearings.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
Namik failed to attend court on Friday and was sentenced in his absence, the NCA said.

A warrant has been issued and the agency is "working with partners to secure his immediate arrest", it added.

"The criminal group sought to subvert the UK asylum system for their own financial gain, putting vulnerable migrants colonists -- including young children -- at great risk," NCA Branch Commander Richard Harrison said.

The "prolific" enterprise utilised complicit lorry drivers, usually from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
, charging around 1,800 euros ($1,900) per migrant -- typically from Iraq and Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
-- to traverse mainland Europe.

The smugglers would then offer two separate means of getting to the UK, which would incur extra cost, according to the NCA.

The more expensive option would see individual migrants colonists hidden within a lorry, sometimes within the wind deflector above the cab, and then met by an escort once in Britannia.

The other method was to conceal larger numbers of migrants colonists in the back of a truck driven by a complicit haulier. The group would be released once through border controls.

The NCA dismantled Namik's operation in April 2018, when he and two of the others convicted were arrested by officers. Another was arrested in 2019.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Tokhosashvili taken into custody
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] A court in Georgia has taken into custody a native of the Pankisi Gorge, Tsiskar Tokhosashvili,
...previously in our archives as Tsiskara Tokhosashvili, for some reason....
also known as Emir Isa, whom the investigation considers one of the leaders of the Islamic State.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Caesar (Tsiskar) Tokhosashvili, a native of Pankisi, whom the security forces consider the deputy of the Amir of the Islamic State terrorist organization Abu Umar al-Shishani banned in Russia by the court, was detained in Kiev in December 2019 and extradited in May 2020 in Tbilisi. On December 8, the Georgian Security Service announced the detention of Tokhosashvili.

Umar al-Shishani's deputy was detained in Kiev, where he lived in a private house, and  placed under extradition arrest. A portrait examination confirmed that the detainee is one of the wanted leaders of the Islamic State*, the SBU reported in November 2019.

Tsiskar Tokhosashvili, also known as Emir Isa, was taken into custody on December 9. This decision was taken by the court. He is accused of joining a terrorist organization and aiding terrorist activities. The court session was held behind closed doors, Tokhosashvili was brought to him under the escort of special forces, "Rustavi 2" reports (translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent).

"Tsiskar Tokhosashvili disagrees with the charges against him and exercised his right to remain silent. As an alternative, we offered a bail of 10,000 lari (approximately 3,730 US dollars). Unfortunately, our petition was rejected by the court," the newspaper quotes the words lawyer Zurab Tomadze.

The investigation believes that Tokhosashvili participated in various military operations conducted by the Islamic State. “The court shared the position of the prosecution that there were grounds for choosing the most severe measure of restraint against the accused,” prosecutor Maya Silagadze said.

His brother, Tsezar Tokhosashvili, known in the Islamic State* as Al Bara Shishani, is already serving his sentence in Georgia. The Tokhosashvili brothers are from the village of Omalo in the Pankisi Gorge of Georgia, where ethnic Chechen-Kists live, Novosti Georgia reported today.

US indicts Mauritania national over terror attacks in Mali
[DW] Fawaz Ould Ahmed is accused of being involved in multiple deadly attacks in Mali in 2015. He was already handed the death penalty
by a Malian court in 2020.

A Mauritanian man who received a death penalty in Mali for involvement in attacks that killed dozens including an American in 2015, was extradited to the United States to face an indictment related to the same crime, the US Justice Department said on Saturday.

Fawaz Ould Ahmed, a Mauritanian Islamist, also known as "Ibrahim 10," is accused of carrying out the March 2015 attack on the La Terrasse bar and restaurant in Bamamko that left five people dead.

He is also accused of criminal masterminding attacks on the Hotel Byblos in Sevare in August 2015 and the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako in November 2015 that left 13 and 20 people dead respectively.

Ahmed faces charges including the murder of US citizen Anita Ashok Datar and conspiracy to provide support to US-designated terrorist organizations al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and al-Mourabitoun, according to the Justice Department.

REVENGE FOR CARTOONS
The now 44-year-old and two other jihadis involved in the attacks were sentenced to death by a Malian court in 2020.

During the trial, Ould Ahmed said he had carried out the attack on La Terrasse in Dire Revenge for cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed by La Belle France's Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
magazine.

Born in Nouakchott in the late 1970s, Ould Ahmed was radicalized after the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

US opposes UN ‘blacklist’ of settlements, says it poses ‘genuine threat’ to firms
[IsraelTimes] State Department says it has not and will not provide info to office compiling database because it ’reinforces an anti-Israeli bias’ at UN.

The US declared Friday that it opposes the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
database of companies that operate in West Bank settlements, saying it has not cooperated with the office responsible and will not be doing so in the future.

The position laid out by US State Department deputy front man Vedant Patel sought to balance between the Biden administration, the guys that caused the debacle in Afghanistan
...the pack of self-imagined masterminds of strategy and intrigue at the service of the Biden Crime Family and a grateful nation...
’s opposition to Israeli settlements and its belief that the UN is not a platform for dealing with such issues.

The settlement blacklist was created in February 2020 in response to a 2016 UN Human Rights Council resolution calling for a "database for all businesses engaged in specific activities related to Israeli settlements in the occupied Paleostinian territory."

The list contained the names of 112 firms — 94 Israeli and 18 foreign, including Airbnb, TripAdvisor, Booking.com and Motorola Solutions. In Norway, the list led the sovereign wealth fund to dump companies involved in settlements, citing concern over human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
violations.

The database returned to the news this week following a report in the Axios news site that the Biden administration has been pressuring the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights not to update the list.

Patel did not go as far as to say that the US was pressuring the UN on the matter, but he acknowledge that the administration has made its position against the blacklist clear to officials in the UN human rights office.

"The US opposes the creation of this database... and continues to oppose any work to update it," he said.

"We have not provided and will not provide any information to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on this database, and our position has been repeatedly made clear in public statements as well as in meetings that we’ve had directly with the Office of the High Commissioner."

The State Department front man argued that the database "only serves to reinforce an anti-Israeli bias," which the Biden administration has repeatedly condemned and worked to oppose.

Patel also argued during the press briefing that the blacklist "poses a genuine threat to companies doing business or considering business operations in the region."

Asked how this threat could manifest, Patel declined to elaborate.

The remarks came less than a week after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated the Biden administration’s position against Israeli settlements, warning the incoming right-wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu that the US will "unequivocally oppose" settlement expansion as well any move toward annexation of the West Bank.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Report: Israel warns will bomb Beirut airport if it’s used for Iran weapon shipments
[IsraelTimes] Asharq al-Awsat, citing Israeli political sources, says Jerusalem investigating report by Saudi TV claiming Tehran transferring weapons directly to Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...a formerly French, now an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. ...
on civilian flights

Israel has warned Lebanon that it could bomb Beirut’s international airport, according to one Saturday report, after an earlier report claimed Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
had recently transferred weaponry to the Hezbollah terror group via civilian flights.

Asharq al-Awsat, an Arabic-language newspaper published in London, cited unidentified Israeli political sources as saying Israel was investigating claims by the Saudi-funded al-Arabiya network that Iran recently smuggled weapons through Beirut International Airport.

According to Asharq al-Awsat, Israel has warned the Lebanese government that it could strike the airport if it is indeed used for smuggling attempts.

The Israeli Air Force has admitted to conducting strikes in Syrian territory, targeting Iranian shipments of weapons meant for the Lebanese terror group to use against Israel. The IAF has largely abstained from conducting raids inside Lebanon itself, though it has indicated that it was prepared to do so.

Citing unnamed sources, al-Arabiya said Thursday that Tehran had used the airline Meraj, which recently started flying a direct route between the two nations’ capitals, to transfer weapons to Hezbollah.

Asharq al-Awsat said the Israeli political sources were aware of the al-Arabiya report but did not actually confirm its authenticity.

Israel has in the past accused Iran of using direct flights to Lebanon to transfer equipment and arms to Hezbollah, but officials note the relative difficulty in doing so as the terror group does not control the airport. Therefore Iran prefers to first fly such weaponry into Syria and truck it over the border.

The Israeli military has also accused Hezbollah of hiding underground precision missile production facilities close to Beirut’s international airport.

As a rule, Israel’s military does not comment on specific strikes in Syria, but has admitted to conducting hundreds of sorties against Iran-backed groups attempting to gain a foothold in the country, over the last decade.

The IDF says it also attacks arms shipments believed to be bound for those groups, chief among them Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Additionally, Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s attributed to Israel have repeatedly targeted Syrian air defense systems.

In June, alleged Israeli airstrikes put Damascus’s airport out of service for nearly two weeks. A pair of sorties targeting the Aleppo airport in early September also forced that facility to shut down.

Those strikes came following alleged repeated attempts by Iran to transfer weapons to Hezbollah via the two airports. Another airbase near Homs was targeted last month.

Olde Tyme Religion
UK sanctions controversial Sindh cleric
[Dawn] A controversial pir from Sindh was placed on the British government’s sanctions list on Friday, making Pakistain one of 11 countries where rights violators will be punished.

In a comment to Dawn, the British High Commission said: "The UK takes freedom of religion or belief very seriously and is committed to protecting minorities around the world. The new package of sanctions targets those violating fundamental freedoms. This includes Mian Abdul Haq, a holy man of the Bharchundi Sharif shrine in Ghotki, Sindh, who is responsible for forced marriages and forced religious conversions of non-Moslems and minors. This sanctions package does not include any other Pak national."

The sanctions effectively mean that designated individuals will be unable to do any business or undertake economic activity with UK citizens or businesses, and that they will be denied entry to the UK.

The pir, popularly known as Mian Mithu, is notorious in upper Sindh for his alleged involvement in the forced conversion and marriages of minor Hindu girls. He has denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
on several occasions and even claimed to have promoted religious harmony in Sindh.

Mr Mithu came in the spotlight after he allegedly converted a Hindu girl, Rinkle Kumari, who was later renamed Faryal, to Islam in February 2012, before her marriage to a local Moslem, Naveed Shah.

The conversion, Mian Mithu had claimed, was not forced. He found himself in the news yet again in September this year.

He made headlines when he reportedly led a large number of people who erupted into the streets in protest against an alleged incident of blasphemy
...the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence to a deity, or sacred objects, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable. Some religions consider it to be a crime. In Pakistain you can commit blasphemy by looking cross-eyed at a Koran...
In 2008, the pir won a National Assembly seat on a PPP ticket, but the party denied him a ticket in 2012.

In 2015, Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality disorders...
attempted to invite him into the party fold but was forced to disassociate himself with the holy man after protests from the Hindu community.

In 2021, activist muppets on Twitter called out the PTI government after Mian Mithu was invited by the Council of Islamic Ideology to deliberate on legislation around forced conversion.

Clerics expressed reservations on a draft bill, and a parliamentary panel ultimately rejected the bill despite protest from minority politicians.

The holy man is one of 30 individuals who have been sanctioned in total. Of these, 18, including Mr Mithu, have been targeted for "violations and abuses of human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
".

Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog backed into the corner and showed its teeth. And what big teeth they were!...
sources in the Pakistain government expressed dismay over Pakistain’s name being tarnished because of this individual.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Stephanie Saliba released after questioning in Salameh case
[An Nahar] Lebanese actress Stephanie Saliba was released after questioning Friday as a witness in a corruption probe involving Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh, a judicial source and her agent told AFP.

Saliba was detained after failing to appear for previous summons in the case and was subsequently "questioned as a witness" in the investigation into money laundering and illicit enrichment, the source said.

Saliba was set free on condition she return for more questioning when needed, a judicial official and the state-run National News Agency said.

The arrest is the latest in the controversy surrounding the governor, Riad Salameh, who is being investigated for corruption as an economic meltdown and financial collapse convulse the tiny nation.

According to the National News Agency, a judge, acting on the request by Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
's top financial prosecutor Ali Ibrahim, ordered that Saliba be placed in jug after she showed up earlier in the day at the prosecutors office in Beirut for questioning. The report gave no reason for her arrest.

A judicial official said investigative Judge Iman Abdullah questioned Saliba over "illicit enrichment and money laundering." The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations, did not give further details.

Saliba was later questioned by Mount Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun, who has been investigating Salameh.

Aoun set Saliba free on Friday evening on condition that she comes for further questioning when needed, the judicial official said, adding that Saliba will be also banned from leaving the country until the questioning ends.

Salameh is being investigated in several European nations, including Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, La Belle France, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein, for potential money laundering and embezzlement. He has repeatedly denied corruption charges.

Reports in Lebanese media say the governor gave Saliba expensive gifts.

Earlier this week, Aoun issued a search warrant for Saliba's home as part of her investigation of the governor.

Since 2019, Lebanon has been in the grips of the worst economic and financial crisis in its modern history, rooted in decades of corruption and mismanagement by the country's political class.

Many hold the 72-year-old Salameh responsible for the crisis, citing policies that drove up national debt and caused the Lebanese pound to lose 90% of its value against the dollar. The Central Bank governor, who has held the post for the past three decades, still enjoys the backing of top politicians.
