[American Thinker] Many in Italy were anxiously awaiting this Sunday for the return of Silvia Romano, a twenty-five-year-old Italian national who was freed after being kidnapped in November 2018 in Chakama, (northern) Kenya by al-Shabaab jihadists. Romano, a trained medical practitioner, was working as a volunteer for the Italian charity called Africa Milele when she was taken and accused by her captors for proselytizing Christianity in the Kenyan town.
What most were not expecting, as she stepped out of the plane that brought her to Ciampino airport outside of Rome, was her Islamic attire.
In what became a huge pro-left and pro-Islamic propaganda, after being greeted by family members, as well as Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, Romano announced she had become a Muslim, saying: "My name is Aisha now" -- the name of Muhammad’s favorite nine-year-old wife. Romano attested that her submission to Islam was a was spontaneous: "They didn’t force me to do anything. I’ve always been locked in rooms. I read and wrote."
This dispels a 2019 report by Il Giornale that, according to Italian intelligence, Romano was forced to convert to Islam and to marry one of her captors. Apparently, the jihadists who kept her prisoner brainwashed her, resorting to psychological maneuvers that severed her emotional and cultural ties from her homeland in order to make her feel assimilated to the environment she was forced to live. The fact that the young Italian was treated well during her imprisonment, even given a PC to study the Arabic language, makes acceptance of her kidnappers’s faith with a positive and deliberate will questionable. However, what raises more of an eyebrow is the Italian government’s clandestine efforts to achieve her release.
Al-Shabaab, according to a 2017 report, "has proven that they have the ability to diversify their financial tactics, despite military setbacks and funds from abroad drying up." In other words, they are experts at extorting money, and Silvia Romano became another instrument to acquire more funds for their terroristic aims.
As indicated by the Italian journal La Verità, there was a large payoff to the Islamic jihadists by Italian officials. The fact that former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said: "Nothing is free is cases like this one," gives credence that notwithstanding the millions of unemployed Italians during the coronavirus lockdown, their taxes were used to facilitate Romano’s freedom.
Two factors to consider. The first is the danger of negotiating with terrorists, especially when they demand large sums of money.
As Peter R. Neumann, Director of the Center for Defense Studies at King’s College, London, once explained:
"The argument against negotiating with terrorists is simple: Democracies must never give in to violence, and terrorists must never be rewarded for using it. Negotiations give legitimacy to terrorists and their methods and undermine actors who have pursued political change through peaceful means. Talks can destabilize the negotiating governments’ political systems, undercut international efforts to outlaw terrorism, and set a dangerous precedent."
Yet governments still do this all the time. According to reports, the Obama administration secretly paid $400 million to Iran in January 2016 in exchange for four American sailors it had detained. The four Navy personnel had surrendered in Iranian waters, causing an international incident and bringing embarrassment on the Navy for the litany of errors that led to their arrest and their violations of regulations while in custody. The payoff did not help America’s role as leader of the free world in any way, shape, or form.
The second issue to evaluate is that Silvia Romano refused to condemn the Islamic tenets that the al-Shabaab Muslims referred to in order to justify her kidnapping in the first place.
While certain Muslims, progressive-minded officials, and churchmen refer to quotes such as: "Observe your duty to Allah in respect to the women, and treat them well," to claim that Islam treats women with honor, the truth of the matter is something else.

[AA.TR] A joint declaration by the Greek Cypriot administration and non-regional countries will not have any impact on Ottoman Turkish Cypriots’ determination to protect their rights and interests, the Ottoman Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said Tuesday.
The Foreign Ministry of the TRNC said a statement issued earlier in the day by the foreign ministers of the Greek Cypriot administration, Greece, Egypt, La Belle France and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ignored the realities of the Eastern Mediterranean and was politically motivated.
The ministry said the Greek Cypriot administration cooperated with countries, including those who do not have a say in the region, and aimed to present a fait-accompli against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund... and the TRNC instead of working in favor of regional stability.
The statement emphasized that such efforts by the Greek Cypriot administration would not prevent the country from preserving its cooperation with Turkey.
Calling on the Greek side to cease its maximalist and unilateral approach in the region, the TRNC said the Greek Cypriots need to understand the fact that their first interlocutor in this context should be Ottoman Turkish Cypriots.
The statement concluded that such unilateral policies of the Greek side would only contribute to the decline in trust between Ottoman Turkish and Greek residents of the island.

Prince Bandar is the brother of Salman bin Sultan Al Saud who ordered the Free Syrian Army to attack the Syrian capital Damascus back in 2013 according to leaked NSA document.
Because of his crooked ways that have no limits and after ISIS raise in 2014, Prince Bandar was removed from his position as the main planner of the battle against Assad. Bandar was replaced by Prince Muhammad bin Nayef and Prince Mohammad bin Salman himself.
The two reportedly suspended many of the operations, which were planned by Bandar, and engaged in a direct dialogue with Russia in what appears to be an effort to hide Saudi Arabia’s role in supporting terrorist groups in Syria.
If Saudi officials confirm the arrest of Prince Bandar, it could be a sign that the new Saudi leadership led by the Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman is willing to make radical changes in the Saudi Arabia polices regarding Syria. Or, it’s just another sign of the sky-high tensions within the Saudi leadership.

I'm generally opposed to death squads - slippery slope, and all that - but I'm willing to entertain arguments. Everything is a situation. Sometimes you have to ask yourself WWWBDD - What Would Wild Bill Donovan Do?

I use Safari on an iPad, Bobby, so it may be different if you use a different browser.
Up at the top of the page next to the URL/address bar I see AA. Clicking on that yields a drop down menu offering to change the text size, hide the toolbar, request the desktop website (presumably I’m in mobile mode), and website settings. It also offers Show Reader View. Website Settings also offers the option to Show Reader Automatically, but that is a more advanced stage of the proceedings — I use it for the Jerusalem Post, because for some reason that site is crash-prone for me.
They were my original source for stories posted here, but so many stories went behind the pay wall that I turned to the Jerusalem Post. When that got buggy for me, I turned to Ynet. Then The Times of Israel appeared. Now that and the Jerusalem Post in Reader view are my go-to sites.

[Aljazeera] A redacted copy of a three-and-a-half page October 2012 FBI "update" about the investigation said that FBI agents had uncovered "evidence" that Fahad al-Thumairy, a cleric, and Omar al-Bayoumi, a suspected Saudi agent. had been "tasked" to assist two hijackers by another person whose name was blacked out. This prompted the lawyers for the families of the 9/11 victims to refer to this individual as "the third man".
Describing the request by the lawyers to depose that person under oath, Sanborn's declaration said in one instance that it involved "any and all records referring to or relating to Jarrah", according to Yahoo News.
This represented the first public confirmation that the so-called "third man" was an accredited Saudi diplomat. But all of the FBI evidence the agents had gathered about Mussaed Ahmed al-Jarrah and his communications about the two attackers remain under seal, the report said.
It is unclear how strong the evidence is against al-Jarrah, whose whereabouts remain unknown. But the disclosure appears likely to revive questions about Saudi Arabia's potential links to the 9/11 plot and highlights the extraordinary efforts by US government officials to prevent internal documents about the issue from becoming public, Yahoo News said.
"This shows there is a complete government cover-up of the Saudi involvement," Brett Eagleson, a spokesman for the families, told the news outlet. "This is a giant screw-up."
Yahoo News said it contacted the Department of Justice on Monday, but officials notified the court and withdrew the FBI's declaration from the public docket.

Scottsdale Community College’s mishandling of a professor’s academic freedom drew an apology from the district’s interim chancellor Monday, just days after the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education sent a letter defending the professor’s rights. The college tried to force professor Nicholas Damask to apologize for three quiz questions about Islamic terrorism that a student said were "in distaste of Islam." Damask added that the college suggested he would be required to meet with an Islamic religious leader to review the content of his course.
"I’m happy that the Maricopa Community College governing board has acknowledged the importance of the First Amendment and academic freedom, even into subjects that may be controversial — without that freedom of thought and inquiry, America just isn’t America anymore," said Damask, who has been teaching at SCC for 23 years. "And I’m grateful for groups like FIRE that are willing to stand by me in the fight to defend that freedom."
FIRE sent an urgent letter to SCC on Thursday, outlining the college’s free speech and academic freedom missteps and demanding that it abandon any suggestion that it will investigate or suppress his teaching.
Damask, chair of the Department of Political Science at SCC, exchanged emails with a student on April 29 about three quiz questions in an international relations course. Within a day, someone shared this student’s concern about Damask’s quiz questions online, and the questions generated negative attention on the school’s official Instagram account.
The quiz questions asked about the context in which terrorism is justified by some in the Islamic religion, where in Islamic doctrine and law terrorism is encouraged by those who justify it, and who terrorists believe they are emulating, based on the material assigned in the course.
"Colleges can’t take away a professor’s academic freedom rights because they want to stem criticism on social media," said Katlyn Patton, author of FIRE’s letter.
