Suspect in 2017 Paris killing of Jewish woman won’t stand trial
[IsraelTimes] French court rules Kobili Traore can’t be held criminally responsible for Sarah Halimi’s killing because he was in a psychotic state from marijuana use.

A man accused of murdering his Jewish neighbor in Gay Paree will stand not trial after a French court ruled Thursday he could not be held responsible for the killing because he was in a psychotic state from smoking marijuana.

Kobili Traore is alleged to have beaten his neighbor, 66-year-old Sarah Halimi, to death in 2017 while calling her a demon and shouting about Allah, before throwing her body from the window of her third-story apartment.

The appeals court, whose decision Thursday ended Traore’s detention, ordered he be hospitalized or made to attend a drug rehabilitation program. It also ordered security measures be put in place for 20 years, including a ban on him from contacting the victim’s relatives or returning to the scene of the crime.

But Traore "does appear to have voluntarily ended the life of Sarah Halimi," the court ruled, saying the killing was partly because of anti-Semitism.

The court also retained the aggravated element of a hate crime in the indictment against Traore, but determined it would not go to trial because Traore was not fully aware of his actions on the night of April 3, when he killed Halimi, according to the court.

The French Jewish community has long claimed Halimi, a physician and kindergarten teacher, was the victim of an anti-Semitic crime.

The appeals court’s decision "marks the advent of a policy that gives impunity to anti-Semitic murder in La Belle France, EUJF, the French-Jewish student association, wrote Thursday on Twitter.

Last January, Traore was determined fit to stand trial following an assessment. But that was overturned after a judge requested a second series of tests, which determined that the Malian immigrant was not able to stand trial.

A third assessment found Traore did not suffer from mental illness, but that he could not be held responsible for his actions at the time of Halimi’s murder as he was in a state of "acute delirium."

Prosecutors initially announced after Halimi’s killing that it was an anti-Semitic crime.

Traore pummeled Halimi, a physician and kindergarten teacher, for an hour as police stood outside the woman’s door, according to reports. He shouted about Allah and called her a "demon" before throwing her to her death. Traore had called Halimi’s daughter "dirty Jewess" two years before killing the mother, the daughter has said.

Pentagon Announces Plans to Monitor Foreign Trainees' Social Media Posts
[Mil.com] The Pentagon has completed re-screening all Saudi students in U.S. military training programs following a deadly Dec. 6 shooting rampage at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Defense Department officials announced Thursday.

No indications of additional threats have surfaced, they said.

Moving forward, DoD plans to increase vetting practices for for Saudi Arabian and other foreign nationals in training at military bases in the U.S., including checks of their social media posts.

The recent screenings included about a dozen friends of 21-year-old Saudi Royal Air Force 2nd Lt. Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, who was shot to death by a sheriff's deputy after killing three and injuring eight others in a classroom building at NAS Pensacola.

In a statement read in a conference call with reporters, Garry Reid, the director for Defense Intelligence, said the department ran all of the approximately 850 Saudi students currently in military training in the U.S. through databases and found "no information indicating an immediate threat scenario."

Probably wouldn't have found any "immediate threats" had the database scan been run six months ago either.

The problem isn't your dog's habitual scratching and biting at his coat, it's the fleas.

DoD is pretty much powerless and attempting to pick this one up from the clean end. Important to remember, the FBI has responsibility for domestic terrorism. They appear to have been consumed with other matters in the last few years.

US Justice Department seeks to revoke citizenship of Hamas supporter
[IsraelTimes] Officials say Paleostinian man hid his conviction and incarceration in Israel for helping terror group during naturalization process.

The US Justice Department said Thursday it was seeking to revoke the citizenship of a naturalized Paleostinian man who hid his support for the Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, terror group and his conviction in Israel related to that support from American immigration authorities.

The department said it had filed a lawsuit against Abdul Jabbar Naji Shalabi, 39 and a resident of Michigan, to revoke his US citizenship.

It said that while studying at Bir Zeit University in the West Bank in 2002, Shalabi was arrested by Israeli authorities for concealing acetone ‐ used in making bombs ‐ on behalf of a Hamas bomb maker. He was jugged
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
and later released, and became a US citizen in 2005.

It said Shalabi lied about his assistance for Hamas and about his arrest and conviction.

"The Department of Justice is deeply committed to investigating and prosecuting individuals who defraud the American people and government by concealing their material support for terrorists," Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt said.

Phones of Pakistani officials allegedly targeted by Israeli spyware
Oh dear. How absolutely dreadful. But did they really believe that announcing — repeatedly — that they’re at war with the Zionist entity would not eventually be noticed?
[IsraelTimes] Report says unclear who was behind hacking, which took advantage of vulnerability in WhatsApp that NSO Group has been accused of exploiting.

The phones of some two dozen Pak officials were allegedly targeted by spyware developed by Israeli firm NSO Group.

Among those possibly affected were top defense and intelligence officials in Pakistain, the Guardian reported Thursday.

The suspected technology was believed to have taken advantage of a security vulnerability in the WhatsApp messaging application.

Pakistain has not published details of the alleged hack, but the report said there were signals Pakistain’s government was working to address the issue.

It was unclear who was behind the apparent hacking, though the Guardian noted the incident could raise questions over whether Pak rival India is using NSO technology to spy on domestic and international targets.

NSO was accused last month of hacking an Indian opposition politician’s phone during the country’s election this year.

That revelation came days after the Facebook-owned WhatsApp filed a lawsuit in the US against the NSO Group, accusing it of using the hugely popular instant messaging platform to conduct cyber espionage on nearly 1,400 journalists, diplomats, dissidents and human right activists worldwide.

Also in November, Rooters reported that senior government and military officials from some 20 countries allied with the United States were targeted, citing people familiar with WhatsApp’s internal investigation.

The Israeli firm has said it only licenses its software to governments for "fighting crime and terror."

According to Rooters, victims of the spying campaign included people in the United States, Mexico, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Pakistain and India, but it was unclear whether government officials in those countries were affected.

Nearly two dozen activists, lawyers and journalists were targeted in India ‐ WhatsApp’s biggest market with some 400 million active users ‐ according to Indian media reports.

New Delhi asked WhatsApp to "explain the kind of breach and what it is doing to safeguard the privacy of millions of Indian citizens," Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad wrote on Twitter, denying the government had used the malware to spy on its citizens.

But opposition leaders accused the government of invading citizens’ privacy.

The head of WhatsApp has said the lawsuit was filed after an investigation showed NSO Group’s role in the cyberattack, despite its denials.

"NSO Group claims they responsibly serve governments, but we found more than 100 human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
defenders and journalists targeted in an attack last May. This abuse must be stopped," Will Cathcart said on Twitter.

The lawsuit said NSO’s Pegasus software was designed to be remotely installed to hijack devices using the Android, iOS and BlackBerry operating systems.

The complaint said the attackers "reverse-engineered the WhatsApp app and developed a program to enable them to emulate legitimate WhatsApp network traffic in order to transmit malicious code" to take over the devices.

The suit calls on the court to order NSO Group to stop any such attacks and asks for unspecified damages.

NSO Group came to prominence in 2016 when researchers accused it of helping spy on an activist in the United Arab Emirates.

Its best-known product is Pegasus, a highly invasive tool that can reportedly switch on a target’s phone camera and microphone, and access data on it.

Iran leader urges deeper Muslim monetary links to fight US ‘hegemony’
So many delicious, salty tears!
[IsraelTimes] At Islamic conference in Malaysia, Rouhani suggests creation of special banking and financial mechanism among Moslem nations.
But only their clients trust Iran, and none of them have money.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani
...Iran's moderate president, which he is, relative to his predecessor, which doesn't mean he's anything but a puppet of the nearest holy man...
on Thursday urged Moslem nations to deepen financial and trade cooperation to fight what he described as US economic hegemony, using an Islamic conference in Malaysia as a platform to decry American sanctions against his country.
Ya know... if you gave up your nuclear bomb program, President Trump’s America would ease up. And it’ll be President Trump’s America until 2025.
Rouhani repeated his assertion that the US has used economic sanctions as the "main tools of domineering hegemony and bullying" of other nations.
Whereas Iran uses fake revolutionaries and real jihadis, funded by drug trafficking, to domineer and bully.
Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has been gripped by violent protests since last month amid anger over a sharp hike in gasoline prices following US sanctions after Washington withdrew last year from Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. There has been a wave of arrests in Iran and rights group Amnesia Amnesty International has said at least 304 people were killed in the anti-government protests.

Rouhani said the US sought to cripple Iran with the "heaviest sanctions" but the country’s economy is on the mend and moving away from reliance on oil.
Betcha it’s not nearly as lucrative, though. Thank goodness Iran has the cocaine trade to fill in the gaps, managed by Hezbollah and the IRGC, kinda like North Korea’s white juche.
"The Moslem world should be designing measures to save themselves from the domination of the United States dollar and the American financial regime," he said at the opening ceremony of the three-day conference that included leaders from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
and host Malaysia.

Rouhani suggested the creation of a special banking and financial mechanism among Moslem nations, using local currencies for trade and giving each other trade privileges to deepen linkages.
Like that will ever happen in a low trust, winner take all, honour/shame culture.
He said rising extremism as well as challenges such as weak governance, poverty and corruption are endangering illusory sovereignty and paving the way for Western interference in Syria, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, Afghanistan and other Moslem nations. But if Moslem countries harness their collective strength, they could confront such problems, he said.
True. If only they could. Even mostly non-Arab Iran can’t manage it under the Mad Mullahs — it isn’t realistic to expect more from Arab countries.
Rouhani proposed the Kuala Lumpur conference establish a joint fund to finance technological cooperation among Moslem nations, set up a a joint research center in artificial intelligence and cyberspace, and create a Moslem market in digital economy and cryptocurrency.
Dream big, I guess...
Notably absent from the conference is Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, which snubbed the meeting because it was not held under the Saudi-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Saudi Arabia and Iran are bitter rivals. Pakistain also withdrew from the conference in a move to assuage its ally, Saudi Arabia.
...which of course annoyed Pakistan's other ally, Iran. Oh well.
Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
launched a veiled criticism against the OIC, telling the conference that the platform that brings the Moslem world together was besieged by a "lack of implementation."
Unexpectedly.
"We still haven’t made any progress regarding the Paleostinian cause, we still can’t stop the exploitation of our resources, we still can’t say ’stop’ to the fragmentation of the Moslem world over sectarianism, that’s why," said Erdogan.
So, so true. Well summarized.
Moslems account for 94 percent of worldwide conflict with one out of three arms sold globally finding its way to the Middle East, he said. "The Moslems are using their resources for armament and for conflict and while doing so they are enriching the Western arm dealers," he added.
...and impoverishing themselves. It’s a lifestyle choice when you’re as untrustworthy as your neighbours.
Rouhani leaves Friday for a two-day visit to Japan.
Ooooooh — look at him being all diplomatic and stuff.
The Jerusalem Post adds:
Divisions in the Muslim world were self-evident as only about 20 countries sent leaders, or delegations to the Kuala Lumpur summit, though all 57 members of the OIC had been invited.

In welcoming remarks, Mahathir said the Kuala Lumpur Summit was meant to understand why Islam, the Muslims and their countries were "in a state of crisis, helpless and unworthy of this great religion."

Mahathir said the summit, which will end on Saturday, should address the world's perceptions of Islam, the rise of Islamophobia, the decline of the Islamic civilisation and reforms in governance needed by Muslim nations.

#1  "in a state of crisis, helpless and unworthy of this great religion."

I bet their solution is the same as in the West with the Left's politics, more centralization and concentration of power!

Iraq
Political deadlock delays choice of new PM to steer Iraq out of crisis
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi politicians said on Thursday that deadlock in parliament was holding up the selection of an interim prime minister, meaning leaders would miss a deadline to name a replacement for Adel Abdul Mahdi and prolong nationwide unrest.

More than 450 people, mostly unarmed demonstrators but also some members of the security forces, have been killed since a wave of popular unrest began on Oct. 1. Protesters, most of them young, are demanding an overhaul of a political system they see as profoundly corrupt and keeping most Iraqis in poverty.

The protests have shaken the country out of two years of relative calm following the defeat of ISIS bully boys.

Infighting between political parties who are clinging onto power has fueled the crisis and threatens to cause more unrest as protesters lose patience.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi resigned last month under pressure from the streets but has remained in office in a caretaker capacity. The constitutional deadline to name a replacement expires on Thursday.

President Barham Salih this week asked the largest bloc in parliament to nominate a new premier to form a government.

Lawmakers and politicians said Salih could now delay the nomination to Dec. 22, based on a federal court ruling allowing national holidays to be excluded from the run-up to the constitutional deadline.

The house failed on Wednesday to pass a new electoral law, a key demand of protesters, which would make elections fairer after each round in recent years has been marred by allegations of fraud.

Protesters demand a new electoral law and committee, but also the removal of the entire political class, and a prime minister with no party affiliation.

Report: Shin Bet tried to recruit Hamas activists with aim of hitting organization's rockets
[Ynet] The Lebanese news network Al Mayadeen published an article on Tuesday, alleging that a Shin Bet operative attempted to recruit a Paleostinian from the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip, a member of Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,' military arm, in an alleged operation aimed at sabotaging the organization's long-range rockets.

The Shin Bet wanted the Paleostinian to launch a rocket targeting stored rockets by means of GPS, along with other means of sabotage that would cause the rockets to explode at their launch

US denounces Iran rights abuses, imposes sanctions on judges
[IsraelTimes] Pompeo denounces Tehran’s violent crackdown on recent protests, says ’appeasement of the regime simply will not work’.

The United States has imposed sanctions on additional senior Iranian officials for human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
abuses as the Trump administration increases its "maximum pressure campaign" on the Tehran government.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denounced the recent violent crackdown by Iranian authorities against widespread protests, and the Treasury Department on Thursday targeted two top Iranian judges with penalties. Pompeo assailed Iranian officials for "hypocrisy" by depriving citizens, particularly ethnic and religious minorities of their constitutional rights.

Pompeo said he had redesignated Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
as a "country of particular concern" for religious freedom, a status that adds a layer of potential sanctions against the government. He also said the administration would enact travel bans on officials found to have violated human rights, as well as their families.

"The United States has stood, and will stand under President Trump, for the Iranian people," Pompeo said in a speech at the State Department. "The appeasement of the regime simply will not work."

The sanctions announced by the Treasury Department freeze any assets the two judges may have in US jurisdictions and bar Americans from any transactions with the judges. The sanctions will also affect foreigners doing business with the judges, who sit at the top of two branches of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

"Abolghassem Salavati and Mohammad Moghisseh oversaw the Iranian regime’s miscarriage of justice in show trials in which journalists, attorneys, political activists, and members of Iran’s ethnic and religious minority groups were penalized for exercising their freedom of expression and assembly and sentenced to lengthy prison terms, lashes, and even execution," the department said in a statement.

Salavati runs Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court. The statement said he had sentenced so many people to capital punishment that he is nicknamed the "the Judge of Death." Moghisseh presides over Branch 28 of court, and the statement said he had sentenced numerous artists to lengthy sentences for "collusion against national security and propaganda against the state allegedly found in their artwork."

New York State providing $10 million to protect religious institutions
[IsraelTimes] Governor Cuomo says, ’With anti-Semitism and hate crimes on the rise,’ his administration will ’do all we can to protect our communities against the threats we face’.

New York State has awarded $10 million for the protection of "religious-based institutions and non-public schools from hate crimes," Gov. Andrew Sonny Cuomo announced Thursday.

The money, which marks the second round of funding under New York’s Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes Grant Program, will fund more than 200 projects, the Governor’s Office said in a statement.

Each eligible institution will receive $50,000 for additional security training, cameras, door-hardening, improved lighting, state-of-the-art technology and other related security upgrades.

The announcement comes just over a week after New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said that he intended to establish a new unit focused on hate crimes separate from the existing NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force in response to the recent shooting of four people, including two Hasidic Jews, at a kosher grocery in New Jersey.

Anti-Semitic incidents in New York have increased significantly this year, according to data from the New York Police Department. Through September, there have been 163 reported incidents, up from 108 over the same period last year ‐ an increase of 50 percent. Anti-Semitic incidents make up a majority of reported hate crimes in New York City.

The incidents include a rash of assaults on men in Brooklyn who are identifiably Jewish.
Those were mostly done by African-American kids, I believe, not white supremacists...

According to the Anti-Defamation League, in a statement earlier this year, at least 12 white supremacists have been arrested on allegations of plotting, threatening or carrying out anti-Semitic attacks in the US since the massacre at a Pittsburgh synagogue over one year ago.

The Anti-Defamation League also counted at least 50 incidents in which white supremacists are accused of targeting Jewish institutions’ property since a gunman killed 11 worshipers at the Tree of Life synagogue on October 27, 2018. Those incidents include 12 cases of vandalism involving white supremacist symbols and 35 cases in which white supremacist propaganda was distributed.

The ADL said its nationwide count of anti-Semitic incidents remains near record levels. It has counted 780 anti-Semitic incidents in the first six months of 2019, compared to 785 incidents during the same period in 2018.
