Egypt's Sisi says 'no role for Brotherhood as long as he stays in power'
[Al Ahram] Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said in an exclusive interview published late Friday that there is "no role for the Moslem Brüderbund as long as [he] stays in power," asserting that the Egyptian people would not accept the return of the Brotherhood to power, because their "unviable" ideology.

During the interview with the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Shahed, El-Sisi spoke on issues of Arab national security, the influx of holy warriors in Syria, Egypt’s relationship with Kuwait, and several domestic issues.

He talked on the importance of cooperation by the Arab States to protect Arab national security from dangers faced by the Arab nations, adding that such a relationship would create a state of deterrence to those who aim to assault the Arab world.

El-Sisi also affirmed the depth of Egypt and Kuwait’s special relationship, praising the role of Kuwait’s Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah in supporting Egypt in critical times.

Speaking on the Arab Spring, El-Sisi diagnosed the phenomena as a "wrong treatment to a wrong reality", adding that the "constructive chaos left destruction and havoc in several Arab states."

El-Sisi blamed that chaos on the Brotherhood, due to their roles in countries like Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and Libya, while discussing his fear of where the 36,000 holy warriors involved in the crisis in Syria, which has only just started to recover from the war, would go.

"Where will they go after the war in Syria is over, especially if they will be used by intelligence bodies who seek to cause destruction in the region?" he wondered.

El-Sisi also reiterated the need of renewing religious discourse, stressing that religion doesn’t contradict with life.

He said that the problem falls on a false understanding of religious texts, as well as them being used incorrectly to push agendas.

The president also added that Egypt never conspired against anyone, despite offenses which emerged from "an Arab state" and other harassment from regional states.

The recommendation was addressed to Saudi Arabia by the UN Committee on the rights of the Child, which also issued concluding observations on Benin, El Salvador, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mauritania and Niger.

Each country is a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has two optional protocols: involvement of children in armed conflict and the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography.

Every four years, member states are expected to provide an update to the UN on their activities and progress relating to these international accords.

In a statement, the 18-member UN panel noted that Saudi Arabia was involved in the Yemen conflict as the leader of an internationally-backed coalition "to restore legitimacy" there.

Honduran migrant group treks north as US calls for tighter borders
[Al Ahram] More than 1,000 people, including families and women carrying babies, set off from Honduras towards the United States on Saturday, days after the United States urged Honduras' president to halt mass migration.

Recent attempts at group crossings from Central America to the United States have tested U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's "zero tolerance" stance on illegal immigration, as people fleeing violence and poverty defy threats of deportation.

"I believe we'll get to the United States. There's no work in Honduras, and you live in fear that they're going to kill you or your children," said Fanny Barahona, 35, an unemployed teacher who walked with her nine-year-old son and carried a two-year-old daughter.

Some 1,300 people joined the so-called "March of the Migrant," planning to walk from San Pedro Sula in northern Honduras through Guatemala and into Mexico, organizer Bartolo Fuentes said. Once in Mexico, they plan to request refugee status to remain in the country or a visa to pass through to the U.S. border, he said.

TLP threatens to paralyse country if Aasia Bibi is acquitted
[DAWN] The Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP) has warned of paralysing the country within hours if the Supreme Court sets Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy, free. The TLP directed its local leaders across the country on Friday to start holding sit-ins within hours without waiting for a decision by the central leadership, if she is freed.

"Judges’ remarks have sown doubt among the party leaders and fears that she would be released soon," Pir Afzal Qadri, patron-in-chief of the TLP, said while addressing a rally taken out to protest the possible acquittal of Aasia Bibi.

Reading out a four-point resolution approved by the party leadership, he said the possible acquittal would be deemed an attack on Islam, the Constitution and blasphemy law. Responsibility for the subsequent law and order situation would rest with the judges, the government and all institutions supposed to protect the Constitution, he warned.

"The central leadership has already decided about a countrywide protest and local leaders should not wait for any message from the central leadership and start their sit-ins immediately," Mr Qadri said, adding that these "nationwide sit-ins should continue till all those responsible for [Aasia Bibi’s] release are punished, even if the central leadership is incarcerated or killed".

A number of TLP workers gathered on The Mall in Lahore and other major cities in the country, including Bloody Karachi

CJP rejects lawyers' request to withdraw terrorism charge in cop torture case
[DAWN] Chief Justice of Pakistain Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday rejected a plea to withdraw Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) in a suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
case registered against lawyers for allegedly torturing a police officer.

The top judge had taken notice of an incident on Oct 7, in which a group of 15 lawyers led by advocates Saif Khokhar, Nabeel Haider and Mustafa Khokhar had attacked ASI Samar Riaz Khan in a district and sessions court where Khan had gone to submit records.

During a hearing of the case in the Supreme Court's Lahore registry on Saturday, the court also rejected a request to prevent the arrest of the accused lawyers until a decision was made in the case.

"I will give my resignation but I will not be unjust," he said.

He also ordered a copy of the video of the lawyers assaulting the sub-inspector, which, he said, would be displayed in the next hearing of the case to determine who was responsible.

A large number of lawyers, including President of the Lahore Bar Association Malik Arshad and Secretary Sohail Murshad, were present in court on Saturday.

Turkey okays release of more water supplies to Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) ‐ Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
agreed to increase releases of water to Iraq to help it overcome a water crisis, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi said.

Halbousi made the remarks following a meeting with Erdogan in the Ottoman Turkish capital Ankara.

The Ottoman Turkish president agreed to increase water releases to Iraq "to guarantee the delivery of water to all Iraqi provinces, particularly in Basra," the Iraqi Basnews website quoted Halbousi as saying in a statement.

"The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
further stressed its commitment to supporting Iraq in the (water) file," the statement read.

Halbousi arrived in Turkey Monday to take part in the third meeting of Eurasian parliament speakers.

Turkey is holding back water on the Tigris river to fill a reservoir behind its Ilisu dam, a step that has alarmed Iraq and caused shortages particularly in the southern province of Basra.

Iraq’s water shortages have led it to take measures such as bans on rice planting, and driven farmers to leave their land. Basra province has seen months of street protests over the lack of clean drinking water.

...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
, after they were left in Iraq, Ottoman Turkish diplomatic sources were quoted saying on Wednesday.

A report published by Anadolu Agency said "the 17 children, who included a child below three, were repatriated from an orphanage in al-Salhiya region in Baghdad."

The children, according to the report, "are now under protection of Ottoman Turkish officials. All of them are in good health condition."

Statistics have referred that around 2200 Ottoman Turkish people joined Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Only 600 of them returned back to their country.

The rise and fall of Haider Al-Abadi
[Al Ahram] Not long ago, outgoing Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi was at the top of Iraqi politics and was favoured by the United States and its Western and Arab allies to lead the country through its difficulties, setting it on a new path and offering it a glimmer of hope.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
in the four years since he assumed office al-Abadi’s reputation has dwindled as a result of growing domestic discontent because of his failure to start rebuilding the country. Street protests turned into a bloody uprising against his government’s inefficiency and rampant corruption.

#6  An aside; I hope Germany is paying attention. While I agree with Israel and support them, it reminds me of the power Russia will have over Germany.

Via Business Insider; Trump's attacks on Germany focused on two major issues: defense spending and spending on energy imports from Russia.Germany being totally controlled by Russia because they're getting between 60 to 70% of their energy from Russia and building the Nord Stream 2, a new pipeline from the Baltic Sea to Europe that is likely to boost Russia's natural-gas exports. Given Germany's commitment to reducing the use of coal and nuclear energy, the pipeline is seen as a key source of new energy in the coming years. The growing consumption of Russian oil and gas comes at the same time Germany and its allies are confronting Russia over numerous issues, including Russia's invasion of Crimea and election interference around the world.
the article continues; According AG Energiebilanzen, Germany's energy mix coming from Russian oil and gas, a high percentage but certainly short of the 60% to 70% that Trump suggested.
Germany has also helped lead the sanctions on Russia in the wake of the invasion of Crimea.
wait until the Nord Stream 2 is fully functional.

New Syria law expands state regulation of religious affairs
[PULSE.NG] Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
has signed into law a new bill expanding the powers of a government ministry overseeing religious affairs and limiting the term of the country's top Moslem holy man.

The draft, which state media reported Assad had signed into law Friday, had been amended by parliament this month after sparking controversy among Syrians at home and abroad.

The new legislation grants additional powers to the ministry of religious endowments, or "waqf", which already oversees Islamic affairs in Syria.

Specifically, the waqf minister will have a role in naming the next mufti.

The mufti had previously been appointed by the president, as was the case with current mufti Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun, appointed by Assad in 2004.

The new law also sets the mufti's term, previously unlimited, at a renewable period of three years.

The waqf minister will now oversee religious schools, head the Council on Islamic Jurisprudence, and regulate religious programming on media outlets.

The new law also stipulates that Moslem imams are not allowed to travel outside of Syria or attend any conference even inside the country without the waqf minister's permission.

It forbids preachers and religious instructors from "stoking sectarian strife" or "taking advantage of religious platforms for political purposes."

Syria's pre-war population was overwhelmingly Sunni Moslem, with smaller numbers of Shiite Moslems and Alawites, the sect from which Assad's family hails.

Christian and Druze minority communities are also scattered across the country. It appears that non-Moslem communities are not affected by the new law.

The legislation had sparked controversy this month, with many saying it was state overreach into religious affairs.

Others said it was a way to regulate religious discourse in order to "fight extremism."

In a recent television interview, current waqf minister Mohammad Abdulsattar al-Sayyed described it as a "huge achievement".

"This is the first time there's a law that issues controls and standards for religious work and conditions for appointing imams and preachers," he said.
