Afghanistan
58 people arrested on charges of forgery in voter registration process
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 58 people have been incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
on charges of forgery in voter registration process for the upcoming parliamentary and district councils elections.

A front man for the Attorney General’s Office Jamshid Rasuli told news hounds that investigations are underway regarding the 24 cases of alleged forgery in the voters registration process.

Rasuli further added that 58 people have been arrested on forgery charges including using fake national identity cards/Tazkiras and sale of national identity cards.

According to Jamshedi, an employee of the independent election commission has also been arrested in connection to the alleged forgery.

This comes as reports regarding the misuse of the national identity cards and other types of forgeries have sparked concerns among the people as efforts are underway to organize and free, fair, and transparent election.

According to reports, more than six million people have so far registered their names for the upcoming parliamentary and district councils elections.

Dostum reacts at ceasefire announcement by Taliban Afghan government
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The First Vice President of Afghanistan General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
has welcomed the announcement of ceasefire by the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
group and Afghan government.

In a statement released on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr, Gen. Dostum said he welcomes the announcement of ceasefire by parties involved in the conflict, calling it an unprecedented move as the country faces violence and conflict for the past 40 years.

Gen. Dostum declared all out support for any move and step that results into the reduction of violence and halts the ongoing conflict.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
he expressed concerns regarding the attacks carried out by the bully boyz in the aftermath of the ceasefire declared by the government.

He said several people bit the dust during the attacks in a number of provinces, including capital Kabul, and urged the parties involved in the conflict to respect the ceasefire declaration.

The Taliban group announced earlier on Saturday that the leadership of the group has decided to declared ceasefire during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr during which no attack will be carried out on Afghan forces.

The announcement by the Taliban group apparently followed the declaration of the ceasefire by the Afghan government.

Earlier on Thursday last week, President Ghani announced a ceasefire with the Taliban group and said the Afghan forces will not conduct offensive operations against the group from 27th of the holy month of Ramadan until the 5th day of Eid.

Egyptian court issues preliminary death sentence for 11 Brotherhood members over 2015 killing of 3 policemen
It gives everyone something to do while the accused wile away the years in Egypt's prisons.
[AlAhram] An Egyptian criminal court referred the preliminary death sentences of 11 members of the terrorist-designated Moslem Brüderbund organization to the country's Grand Mufti for his non-binding opinion.

The Sharqiya terrorism district court convicted the defendants of taking part in the killing of three coppers in Sharqiya governorate in 2015.

The referral is a necessary step before the death sentences against the convicted can be finalized, per Egypt's penal code.

The court set 12 July to issue its verdict.

Once the court issues the verdict in the case, the defendants have the right to appeal.

Since the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013, hundreds of Brotherhood members have been incarcerated
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
and convicted on charges of murder, inciting murder and violence.

Arabia
Yemen’s Navy says fully ready to destroy Saudi-led warships attacking Hudaydah
[PRESSTV] Yemen’s Navy and Coast Defense Command says it is "fully prepared" to destroy any invading warships belonging to the Saudi-led coalition with missiles, a day after the invading military force launched an offensive against the flashpoint Red Sea port city of Hudaydah.

In a statement carried by Yemen's Arabic-language al-Masirah television network on Thursday, the command further said that the country’s forces, including those of the Navy, would fulfill their national and religious duty to defend the illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
against the enemy.

It further said that destroying an Emirati warship, employed by the Saudi-led coalition, with a pair of Yemeni missiles near Hudaydah a day earlier had been carried out in accordance with that duty, adding that the command’s forces could handle all kinds of challenges posed by the invading forces.

The command reiterated that there was no reason for civilian ships to be worried as long as they followed international maritime law, calling on them to sail twenty nautical miles away from the coalition’s warships as a guarantee for their safety.

US 'blackmails' Turkey into scrapping S-400 deal with Russia: Minister
[PRESSTV] Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli has slammed as "blackmail" Washington's pressure on Ankara to scrap its finalized deal to with Russia to purchase the S-400 air defense missile systems.

"Such a demand goes beyond any permissible norms of diplomacy and trade relations. The fulfillment of this demand is unacceptable. The situation can be characterized as blackmail," Turkey's Anadolu news agency quoted Canikli (pictured below) as saying on Thursday.
But did it work?

#3  Make it an either or.

You get the S-400, or you get F-35s. Your choice.

Personally I would let them get the S-400 since Israel has proven they can use their F-35s to completely dismantle Syrian "advanced" Russian made air defenses.

India-Pakistan
Musharraf a no-show at Supreme Court, lawyer asks for more time
[DAWN] The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday withdrew its directive allowing former dictator Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
to file nomination papers after he failed to appear for a court hearing today.

Last week, the SC had issued a directive permitting Musharraf to file nomination papers for the July 25 general elections on the condition that he appear in person before the court on June 13 in Lahore to attend a hearing.

The court had said that the former army chief's nomination papers will be received by the returning officer, but would only be considered if Musharraf appeared in person at the SC Lahore registry.

Musharraf had then filed his nomination papers from NA-1 Chitral after the court's directive, but failed to appear in court yesterday.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar then gave the former president until 2pm today to appear in person or face action according to the law.

Musharraf's lawyer Qamar Afzal today pleaded that the former president plans on returning but needs more time to appear before the court owing to the "current situation [in the country]" and Eidul Fitr holidays.

Adjourning the case for an unspecified period of time, the court took back its directive allowing Musharraf to file nomination papers and asked his lawyer to let the court know when he wants the case to be heard next.

Indian Army chief wants to give peace a chance in Kashmir
[DAWN] Stressing on talks to establish peace in India-held Kashmire, Indian Army chief Bipin Rawat ‐ in an interview with Economic Times published ‐ said the recruitment of local Kashmiri youth by faceless myrmidons cannot be controlled.

"Talks must happen. The issue is that a lot of locals are joining militancy. We kill them and more would join. Infiltration can be controlled, but this cycle of recruitment of local youth can go on and on. So...let’s give peace a chance and see," the Indian general was quoted as saying by the ET on Tuesday.

In the interview, he refrained from revealing details of the inquiry on into the incident of a Kashmiri man being tied as human shield to an Indian army vehicle.

"The inquiry is on. I had also made the statement that strongest punishment would be given to him [the accused major] if he is found guilty."

General Rawat's comments signify a softer stance than his earlier remarks where he had warned the Kashmiri youth, telling them that "freedom is not possible".

Iraq
Damascus urges Iraq to reopen border crossing with Syria
Normalization lights the end of the tunnel.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Foreign Minister has received a message from his Syrian counterpart over intensifying efforts to re-open the border crossing between the two countries from west of Anbar in Iraq and al-Bu Kamal city in Syria.

Iraqi Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari highlighted, as he received the message from Syrian counterpart Walid al-Moallem, "necessity of cooperation between the two countries in order to resolve the Arab issues through political solutions without intervention in the countries’ affairs."

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the enormous newt was trying to decide if Gloria was edible...
the Syrian ambassador to Baghdad Setam Jadaan al-Dandah, who delivered the message, commanded Iraqi stances which supports resolving the Syrian issues peacefully. He also expressed his government’s desire to boost the bilateral cooperation to achieve stability.

Observers believe that reopening the border crossing could be dangerous as terrorist groups like Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
still exists in al-Bu Kamal, located on the right bank of Euphrates River, east of Syria, which is eight kilometers away from Iraqi-Syrian borders. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
reopening the crossing could reinforce the security presence by both Iraqi and Syrian troops, which could prevent infiltration of bandidos murderous Moslems into Iraq.

Contours of Anti-U.S. Iraqi Government Emerge
[Institute For The Study Of War] Key Takeaway: Key Iraqi Shi’a and Kurdish leaders have signaled their support for a new Iran-backed political alliance, setting up a potential coalition with enough parliamentary seats to form the next Iraqi government. Such a governing coalition would further strengthen Iran’s position in Iraq and undermine the U.S. ability to secure its own interests in Iraq.

Iraqi nationalist Shi’a cleric Moqtada al-Sadr and Iranian proxy and Badr Organization head Hadi al-Ameri formed an alliance on June 12, 2018. Their respective electoral lists represent the two winningest alliances in Iraq’s federal legislative elections that occurred on May 12, 2018. Former Iraqi Prime Minister and current Vice President Nouri al-Maliki, Shi’a cleric Ammar al-Hakim, and two major Kurdish parties have signaled their support for the Sadr-Ameri alliance. A formal coalition emerging among these actors and the electoral lists they lead would clear the 165-seat majority threshold required to form a government. A Sadr-Ameri alliance under this scenario would not need support from blocs led by current Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and secularist Ayad Allawi.

Iran detains rights lawyer who defended headscarf protesters
[DAWN] Iranian authorities on Wednesday detained a prominent rights lawyer who had defended women protesting the obligatory headscarf.

Nasrin Sotoudeh was taken from her home, according to her husband, Reza Khandan, who said she managed to call him after she was detained. He said she was told she would be serving a five-year sentence at the Evin prison in Tehran after being convicted in absentia. "I have no idea what the sentence was related to," said Khandan.

There was no immediate comment from authorities.Sotoudeh is an outspoken critic of the country’s judiciary, which is dominated by hard-liners.

She had recently objected to its decision to limit the number of lawyers allowed to defend clients in security-related cases, calling the move a "farewell" to the right of defence. The judiciary had released a list of just 20 lawyers, out of 60,000 licensed attorneys, who would be allowed to defend such cases. After widespread objections, the judiciary said it would expand the list.

The mother of two also worked as a lawyer for women detained for refusing to cover their hair in public.

Sotoudeh, who has also represented prominent opposition activists, had previously served a three-year prison term from 2010 to 2013 after being convicted of security-related charges.

Turkey-backed armed groups looted, destroyed civilian property in Syria's Afrin: HRW
[PRESSTV] Human Rights Watch says The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
-backed gunnies in the Syrian town of Afrin have looted and destroyed civilian property after taking control of the Kurdish-dominated region in March.

"Those who made the decision to take over Afrin also took on the responsibility of ensuring that both the residents of Afrin, and people there who have been displaced elsewhere have basic shelter in a way that doesn’t infringe on either of those groups’ rights," HRW’s acting emergencies director Priyanka Motaparthy said in a report.

"So far it seems that they are failing to do the right thing by either group," she added.

The report is based on interviews and eyewitness accounts of people who have been displaced from Afrin. They accuse Turkey-backed forces of moving their fighters from other parts of Syria into vacated homes and of taking over business premises without paying compensation.

Roni Seydo left Afrin in March but was told by a friend that an gang had taken over his house, painting the word "seized" on the outside wall. He said his neighbors were questioned about his family and its possible links with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Another former Afrin resident, photographer Ser Hussein, said one of his two studios was burned down and the other turned into a butcher's shop.

Turkey began the so-called Operation Olive Branch in Afrin on January 20 to clear the northern Syrian border of the US-backed Kurdish gunnies of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), whom it associates with the homegrown PKK fighting for autonomy on Ottoman Turkish soil.
