[RADIOSHABELLE] al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... has paraded a senior military commander it said defected from Jubbaland army in its stronghold town of Jilib in Middle Jubba region.
The commander, Hassan Khaire Hussein, is said to have deserted from the Jubbaland and joined the al-Qaeda-linked group which tries to topple the UN-backed Federal government.
Speaking to pro-militants’ media outlet, Hussein said he left the regional forces based in Bula-Gadud village, located on the outskirts of the southern port city of Kismayo ...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region... Al-Shabaab has released photos of the defector armed with an AK-47 rifle and clad in military fatigue standing along with other soldiers in Jilib town.
Jubbaland authorities are yet to comment on the defection of the army officer who is said to have deserted the state before joining the myrmidon group.

[AlAhram] Egypt will keep its Rafah border crossing with the Gazoo Strip open on Monday and plans to send humanitarian aid to the territory, after over 50 Paleostinian protesters were killed by Israeli forces.
The aid includes food items and medical supplies, al-Ahram Arabic reported.
The Rafah border crossing is the main gateway to the outside world for 1.8 million Paleostinians living in the besieged Gazoo Strip, and is the only crossing point not controlled by Israel.
Earlier this week, Egypt said it would be opening the border crossing from Sunday to Tuesday.

Several US security officials had expressed concerns about Qatar’s links to a number of pro-Iran militias, many of them regarded as terrorist organizations by Washington.
Washington’s call follows the disclosure of a number of emails said to be sent from a Qatari bigwig to leading members of groups, such as Leb’s "Hezbollah" and senior commanders in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The emails, seen by the Sunday Telegraph, show that senior members of the Qatari government are on friendly terms with Iranian key figures such as Qassem Soleimani , head of al-Quds Force, and Hassan Nasrallah, head of "Hezbollah".
The previously undisclosed conversations between Qatari officials and heads of several Iran-backed terror groups show that Doha paid hundreds of millions of dollars as part of ransom payments to secure the release of hostages held by Shiite militias in southern Iraq.
Qatari officials say they opened communications with Iran and a number of the terror organizations supported by Tehran to secure the release of members of the Qatari royal family who were kidnapped while on a hunting trip in southern Iraq.

Washington regards Qatar as an important ally in the war against terrorism, and the US based its command headquarters for the recent military campaign against ISIS in Qatar.
In one of the emails, believed to have been intercepted by foreign governments, a senior Qatari official reported that £50 million was paid to Soleimani in April 2017. Another £25 million was paid to an Iraqi Shiite terror organization that is accused of killing a number of US troops in southern Iraq.

[AAWSAT] Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance Sheikh Saleh bin Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Sheikh warned on Sunday that Iran’s Wilayet al-Faqik regime is seeking to change the identities of Muslim Sunni societies throughout the Islamic world.
It wants to replace them with another identity and establish militias in every country, he told the 11th Executive Council of the conference of the Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministers of the Islamic World held in Makkah.
The ministries of Islamic affairs in the Muslim world must exert a lot of efforts to confront ideology with ideology and cement the Sunni creed in Sunni societies, he urged.
Al-Sheikh said that societies should be vigilant to attempts by other creeds to infiltrate Sunni ranks.
In addition, he highlighted the threat of terrorism, “takfir” and violence in the Muslim world, whether in Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Morocco or some African countries through organizations such as al-Qaeda, ISIS and Boko Haram.
He expressed optimism that the Executive Council meeting was “productive”, noting that all gatherers had a sense of unity in facing a common threat.
“They agreed to work together to ensure that this religion remains pure and that it would not be infiltrated by any flawed thought that is aimed at tarnishing its image or veering Muslims off the right path,” he stressed.
Egypt’s Awqaf Minister Dr. Mohammed Mokhtar Jomaa emphasized the need for working on common factors during this “very difficult time.”
“There is no doubt that the region is passing though a difficult phase and our nation is being targeted,” he noted.
This war is taking on “numerous open and hidden forms,” he warned.
He accused extremist groups, “that do not represent us, of usurping religious rhetoric. We must exert great efforts to instead project the correct image to the world.”
Jordan’s Awqaf Minister Dr. Abdul Nasser Abou Basal said that the several major challenges can only be confronted with knowledge and strategic planning.

[AAWSAT] The governor of Yemen’s Saada province stressed that positive developments are in store for the Alab region leading to the Baqim area.
Hadi Tarshan al-Waily told Asharq al-Awsat that the Ktaf and al-Baq areas are also witnessing an advance by the national Yemeni army, backed by the Arab Coalition.
The al-Fara and Diqat al-Khzam area have been cleared of Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... mines and stability has been restored there.
"Advances are being made on all fronts," he stressed.
"Arrangements are being made to advance in the Razeh area in Saada in northern Yemen. The advance will continue there until the forces reach the center of the province," stressed Waily.
In addition, he hailed a recent statement by the Saada tribes in which they rebelled against the Houthi actions and their hostile behavior towards Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... "This is a major development that brought together all Saada residents. They have all voiced their support for the legitimacy forces and Arab Coalition and rejection of the alien Iranian ideology," he said.
"The sons of Saada are eager for the Yemeni army to enter their regions," he stated.
These tribes were the first to confront the Iran-backed Houthis over seven years ago. The militias only succeeded in capturing Saada after seizing the weapons of the former military, explained Waily.
On the firing of ballistic missiles from Saada towards Saudi Arabia, he said that they are being intercepted because the locals oppose the Houthi actions towards the Kingdom.
The tribes distanced themselves from the ballistic attacks, saying that they are being fired by the Houthis. They also revealed that they will form a political council to hold meetings with the envoys of Arab Coalition members.

[Al Jazeera] Turkey has recalled its ambassadors to Israel and the United States following the killing of dozens of Palestinian protesters by Israeli forces amid the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem.
The diplomats, currently stationed in Washington, DC and Tel Aviv, will return to Turkey for "consultations", Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said on Monday, adding that three days of national mourning had been declared in solidarity with Palestine.
Ankara also called for an emergency summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to be held this week - possibly on Friday - and a UN General Assembly meeting over Israel's use of force, Bozdag added.
The move came just hours after Israeli forces fired live ammunition, tear gas and firebombs at Palestinians protesting along the coastal enclave's fence with Israel, killing at least 55 people and wounding more than 2,700 others.
South Africa also recalled its ambassador to Israel on Monday.
"Given the indiscriminate and grave manner of the latest Israeli attack, the South African government has taken a decision to recall Ambassador Sisa Ngombane with immediate effect until further notice," South Africa's foreign ministry said in a statement.
"The victims were taking part in a peaceful protest against the provocative inauguration of the US embassy in Jerusalem," it said, condemning "violent aggression carried out by Israeli armed forces".
A number of countries recalled their ambassadors — either they’ll get over it or they won’t. But according to An Nahar, opening and closing embassies in Jerusalem is a game that has been played over decades.

[The Hill] In a rare moment of agreement with President Trump, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Monday praised the president for moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
"In a long overdue move, we have moved our embassy to Jerusalem. Every nation should have the right to choose its capital," Schumer said in a statement. "I sponsored legislation to do this two decades ago, and I applaud President Trump for doing it."

[DAWN] US defence attaché Col Joseph Emanuel Hall, who was earlier barred from flying out on an American military aircraft by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), was reportedly allowed by the government to leave on Monday, DawnNewsTV reported quoting diplomatic sources.
The government reportedly took the decision after the US government assured that Col Hall will be tried under US laws, the sources added. The diplomat has since left for Afghanistan on a special flight.
Diplomatic sources further confirmed that Col Hall was a US diplomat who held absolute immunity as per the Vienna Convention of 1972 and the privileges Pakistain extends to diplomats.

[Free Beacon] A hardline Iranian organization is reportedly offering a $100,000 reward to any person who bombs the newly opened U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, according to a translation of Farsi language reports.
A group known as the Iranian Justice Seeker Student Movement is reported to have disseminated posters calling for an attack on the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, which has been opposed by Palestinian and Iranian officials as an affront to the holy city.
"The Student Justice Movement will support anybody who destroy the illegal American embassy in Jerusalem," the poster states in Farsi, Arabic, and English, according to an independent translation of the propaganda poster provided to the Free Beacon.
There will be a "$100,000 dollar prize for the person who destroys the illegal American embassy in Jerusalem," the poster states.

“This is another horrific example of the Israeli military using excessive force and live ammunition in a totally deplorable way. This is a violation of international standards, in some instances committing what appear to be wilful killings constituting war crimes,” said Philip Luther, research and advocacy director for the Middle East and North Africa of the human rights watchdog.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, Iran last week launched 20 rockets toward Israel from Syria, four of which were intercepted and the rest of which fell short of Israeli territory. In response, the air force carried out retaliatory raids that the army said inflicted extensive damage on Iran’s military presence in Syria.
"Israel said that only 20 rockets were fired, some of which were downed, but the truth is that 55 rockets some of which were of heavy caliber were fired at a number of military posts, creating huge kabooms that forced all residents in the Golan and some in northern Israel to scramble to bomb shelters in panic," said Hassan Nasrallah, according to Naharnet.
Nasrallah said the Iranian rocket fire sent a message to Israel that it could no longer carry out Arclight airstrikes in Syria with impunity.
"This is one form of the response to Israel’s attacks on Syria. The message that the enemy received was resounding and we are following the Israeli media outlets. The message is that you are mistaken if you think that you can continue to kill and bomb as you please," added the head of the Iran-backed terror group.
Nasrallah said Hezbollah and its allies Iran and Syria "will respond at the appropriate time and place and with the appropriate method" to Israel’s Syria raids, while adding, "This landmark rocket attack has launched a new phase."
He warned "the next response would be in the heart of occupied Paleostine should any red lines be crossed."
Nasrallah also blasted Bahrain’s foreign minister, calling him an "idiot" and a "traitor" for supporting Israel’s right to respond to the barrage of rockets coming from Syria.
Last week’s rocket strikes came after Iran threatened retaliation on Israel for numerous airstrikes against it in Syria, namely following the raid on the T-4 army base in Syria, which killed at least seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, including a senior officer responsible for the group’s drone program.
Earlier Monday, Nasrallah’s deputy, Sheikh Naim Kassem, said the Iranian rocket barrage affirmed "the balance of deterrence" between Israel and its regional enemies.
Iran, along with Hezbollah and Russia, is helping the Syrian regime suppress a bloody insurgency, now in its eighth year.
Israel has committed to preventing Iran from establishing forward bases in Syria, fearing they could be used to launch strikes against the Jewish state, and also to prevent advanced weapons from reaching Hezbollah.
