Afghanistan
Both Taliban and civilians suffered casualties in Kunduz airstrike: Abdullah
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Chief Executive of the Government of National Unity Abdullah Abdullah

says both the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
and civilians have suffered casualties in the Arclight airstrike conducted in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan.

In his speech during the meeting of the Ministers Council, Abdullah said the airstrike in Dasht-e-Archi was carried out a main compound of the Taliban group.

Abdullah further added that the airstrike resulted into the killing of several key Taliban leaders but unfortunately some civilians suffered casualties.

This comes as the Ministry of Defense officials said last week that the airstrike was carried out a main stronghold of the Taliban group in Dasht-e-Archi district which was also being used as the training camp by the group.

According to the defense officials, the raid was conducted based on accurate intelligence information and as a result several Taliban turbans including eighteen of their leaders were killed.

In regards to the civilian casualties, the Ministry of Defense front man Gen. Radmanish said the Afghan army helicopters attacked the the compound with rockets but the civilians sustained casualties from small fire arms.

According to Gen. Radmanish, the Talibs initially opened fire on army helicopters after their base was attacked with rockets and later opened fire on civilians.

Although the circumstances surrounding the civilian casualties have not been ascertained so far but President Ghani said Saturday that a thorough and precise investigation is underway regarding the incident and civilian casualties is underway by the delegation appointed by the government.

Somali Parliament Speaker ‘Resigns’ After Power Struggle
[RADIOSHABELLE] The speaker of the Lower House chamber of Somali parliament Mohammed Osman Jawari was reported to have resigned following weeks of a political crisis over motion against him.

The first deputy speaker of the house, Abdiweli Ibrahim Mudey has announced the resignation of Jawari on Monday morning on the eve of a session to vote on the motion.

The resignation came after an overnight meeting between the speaker and president Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo at Villa Somalia where they discussed over the stand-off.

The speaker is yet to comment on the issue, but Mudey says Jawari will deliver a speech at the house next Wednesday, to officially declare his resignation.

Jawari who has been in office since 2012 has recently rejected calls by top government officials to resign after more than 100 MPs tabled a no-confidence motion against him.

Britain
London Transport Network Purges ‘Extremist Workers’ to Stop Islamic State Attack
[Breitbart] There has been a purge of extremists and potential terrorists working on London’s transport network to guard against another Islamic State attack, the Government’s security minister has revealed.

Ben Wallace said Britain faces an “acute” terror threat, and the move would help police and emergency services in their fight to keep Londoners safe, following four successful attacks by radical Muslims in the capital last year.

He told the Evening Standard there had been an intensive effort to identify potential attackers and those who “would pose a risk to London and its transport network” had already been removed from their jobs on the network.

London Bridge terrorist Khuram Butt
...also in the archives as Khuram Shazad Butt, he plowed through pedestrians on London Bridge with Rachid Redouane and Youssef Zaghba before rampaging through the area knifing everyone within reach in the name of ISIS until the police shot them dead. The known wolf was a member of Al-Muhajiroun and had appeared in a Channel 4 documentary called ‘The Jihadist Next Door’ ...
had a customer safety job on the London Underground network before becoming an Islamic State killer, which he could have used to strike trains. The 2005 7/7 bombers also famously attacked the Tube and a London bus (pictured).

UKIP spokesman and Lonon Assembly member Peter Whittle commented: “This is truly alarming. But anybody bringing this up before would have been called alarmist and scaremongering.”

Last year, it was revealed that there are at least 23,000 extremists and jihadists in Britain that the police have previously investigated or monitored, with around 3,000 under active scrutiny.

“We’ve done a lot of work over the last year about people working in sensitive areas who shouldn’t be, and removing their ability to do so,” Mr Wallace said.

“It’s reducing the insider threat. There are definitely people who have worked in sensitive areas that we have now removed who would pose a risk to London and its networks of transport.

“We’ve got to protect as well as pursue. There are more things we can do around where these people work.”

He added: “We have an acute number of people in this country who are attracted to extremism or violent extremism.

“You can’t arrest your way out of that so you have to develop a way that you can early intervene with some people. Disruption is really important.”

The Government has already admitted that a “significant portion” of the British jihadists who went to fight in Iraq and Syria are back in the country, and some recent attackers, including the Parson’s Green and Manchester bombers, were asylum seekers or from asylum seeker families.

Mr Wallace claimed officials would also be using immigration law to help prevent attacks.

“There are some people whose immigration status may be rightly examined to remove them from threat and there are people involved in normal crime who we could take off the streets,” he suggested.

Pakistan has arrested senior Taliban leaders, claims Mullah Zaeef
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s former Ambassador to Pakistain Mullah Adul Salam Zaeef has claimed that Pakistain has detained some big shots of the group in a bid to force the group to join grinding of the peace processor.

"Pakistain has increased pressure on the Taliban but they will not accept what Pakistain wants them to do," Mullah Zaeef has told The Daily Times newspaper.

"Pakistain has detained some senior Taliban leaders at a time when efforts are underway in the region to encourage the Taliban to come to the negotiating table," he added.

Mullah Zaeef further added "Taliban do not want any deal through any country, including Pakistain and Iran, but they want to solve the problems with the US without involvement of others."

This comes as the Taliban group has so far rejected to participate in form of peace direct talks with the Afghan government and has in the insisted that the group will only hold talks with the United States.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Alice Wells of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs told news hounds last month that President Ghani offered a dignified process during the Kabul Process-II summit.

"This is not a surrender that’s being offered to the Taliban, but a dignified process for reaching a political framework. And again, he emphasized that this is negotiations without preconditions, a process that would lead to a cessation of violence, halt the ties with terrorism, and respect for the Afghanistan constitution," she added.

Israel Resumes Cement Wall Construction along Lebanon Border
[AnNahar] Israel has resumed the construction of a controversial cement separation wall between Leb's southern border and occupied Paleostine amid tight Lebanese and Israeli security measures, the National News Agency reported Monday.

NNA said the construction was taking place on "non-conflict" border zones near Kfarkila-Oudaish highway in Marjayoun.

On Sunday, Israel had placed 24 cement blocks, each 6m long and 1.2m wide.

It stopped building works in the afternoon before resuming it Monday.

New threats emerged between Leb and Israel over several issues, including the wall the Jewish state is building along the border that Beirut says may jut into Lebanese territories, as well as plans for oil and gas exploration in the Mediterranean.

Arabs back Israel, slam Hamas over Gaza border protests
[Ynet] Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Arabic social media outlets, usually brimming with comments criticizing Israel over their treatment of Paleostinians, is flooded with remarks by citizens of Arab countries exhibiting aversion of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", over its 'exploitation' of Gazoo and its residents in Friday's border riots.

Aside from the usual clamor flooding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Arabic social media outlets denouncing Israel for its treatment of the Paleostinian populace, a surprisingly large number of people voiced their support of the state following Friday's Hamas-led protest on the Gazoo border, in which nine people were killed.

The ministry's Facebook and Twitter pages were brimming with comments from residents of Soddy Arabia

Should we be worried about 'killer robots'?
[Al Jazeera] Campaigners are renewing calls for a pre-emptive ban on so-called "killer robots" as representatives of more than 80 countries meet to discuss the autonomous weapons systems.

The use of lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS) is "a step too far", said Mary Wareham, the global coordinator of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots.

"They cross a moral line, because we would see machines taking human lives on the battlefield or in law enforcement.

"We want weapon systems and the use of force to remain under human control," Wareham said.

Wareham spoke to Al Jazeera before Monday's meeting in Geneva, Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
on a possible ban on LAWS.

This is the fifth international meeting to discuss so-called "killer robots" since 2014, but no formal decisions will be taken yet as countries are still working towards a common definition of LAWS, and have yet to agree on whether they should be outlawed in international law.

"We're at a crossroads now. This is going to be a crucial year. If we do not move swiftly, we could end up in a situation where it's too late and where fully autonomous weapons proliferate to the extent that every country has them," Wareham told Al Jazeera.

With Syria in focus, POTUS cancels trip to Latin America
[Reuters] WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to cancel his first official trip to Latin America this week to focus on responding to a suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria, the White House said on Tuesday.

Trump had been scheduled to travel to Lima, Peru, on Friday to attend the Summit of the Americas and then travel on to Bogota, Colombia. The trip had been expected to be tense and awkward because of Trump’s repeated disparagement of the region over immigration, narcotics and trade.

His travel plans changed after a Saturday night attack on the Syrian town of Douma which killed at least 60 people and injured more than 1,000 others. Trump has vowed to make a swift decision to respond to what he called "atrocities."

"At the president’s request, the vice president will travel in his stead. The president will remain in the United States to oversee the American response to Syria and to monitor developments around the world," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement.

Last year, Washington bombed a Syrian government air base after a chemical weapons attack. It was not yet clear what decision Trump will make in response to the latest attack. Syria and Russia have denied there was a chemical weapons attack and have proposed international inspections.

This will be the second trip to the region for Vice President Mike Pence. He met with leaders in Colombia, Argentina and Panama in August.

Russian Military Police enters Douma to investigate alleged chemical attack
[ALMASDARNEWS] Russian specialists accompanied by Russian Military Police visited the formerly rebel-held city of Douma to probe an alleged chemical attack launched by the Syrian Army.

The specialists inspected the location where the purported attack took place. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
no evidence has been found to prove such claim.

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, confirmed that no proof has been yet found to condemn the Syrian government of a chemical attack in the rebel bastion.

terror group is no more than 200, sources from the formerly rebel-held bastion said.

Apparently, the Saudi-backed, ultra-conservative militia has been lying about the number of captives they hold in order to ’improve their position’ while negotiating with the Syrian government.

Fake lists which contain thousands of names have been provided by the terror group to the Syrian government, claiming they are all alive in the notorious Tawba prison.

"The bully boyz lied about the number and names of captives to secure the surrender deal with the Syrian government," a local source said.

The same source suggested that hundreds, and maybe thousands, of captives have either executed or died during their years of captivity due to reasons pertaining to illness, hunger or fatigue.

Iran unifies official, open market exchange rates
[PRESSTV] Iran's First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri has announced that his country will unify official and open market exchange rates following the Rial's recent drop against the dollar.

Jahangiri made the announcement on Monday night following an emergency meeting of the government's economic taskforce headed by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The first vice president said that as of Tuesday the price of the dollar would be 42,000 Rials in both markets, and for all manner of activities.

He added that dollar sales at any other price would be considered fraud.

On Sunday, Iran’s national currency the Rial plunged above 6 percent against the US dollar in free market.

Iran fixed its currency rate after the rial lost one-third of its value in six months. However, despite intervention the souk rate is still close to 60,000 rials to the dollar. The fall in the rial is blamed on reports the US would pull out of the nuclear deal. Expect the fall to continue.

Nasrallah: US offered Hezbollah money to cede resistance
[PRESSTV] His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
says the US offered money to Hezbollah to forgo resistance following the failure of several attempts to destroy the resistance movement.

Nasrallah said Sunday the United States, Israel and their regional allies have been conspiring against the resistance movement since the 2000 liberation of southern Leb from the Israeli occupation.

The Hezbollah chief made the remarks during an electoral rally in the town of Nabatiyeh, calling for a high turnout in Leb’s upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on May 6.

"Following the 2000 victory, the Israeli enemy, along with the US, had realized that Leb’s real power lies within its resistance, which has managed to force the Israeli occupation out of Leb without any condition," he said.

Former US Vice President Dick Cheney assigned the US-Lebanese journalist George Nader to offer Hezbollah anything at that time in return for stopping resistance, Nasrallah said.

"We were offered money and to be part of the authority in Leb on condition that we cede resistance," he said, noting that "My fault at that time was that I didn’t accept to take his paper, so that it would be a proof now."

Nasrallah stressed that the US offer was repeated after the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Leb in 2005. The Hezbollah chief said some European countries also made such offers.

US initial assessment does not blame Syria for chemical attack
[PRESSTV] An initial assessment by the United States has not determined whether a reported chemical attack in the Syrian town of Douma was carried out by Syrian government forces, Rooters reports.

The assessment also suggested that a never agent was used in the suspected poison attack, but further evidence was needed to determine the type of agent, US government sources told the news agency.

In a pair of tweets on Sunday, President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
appeared to blame the Syrian government and Russia for Saturday’s chemical incident in the suburb of Damascus, and warned of "a big price."

Trump also called out Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. Syria warns about ‘dangerous repercussions’ of Israeli assaults
[PRESSTV] Syria has warned about the "dangerous repercussions" of Israeli assaults on its territories, stressing that a recent attack on an air base in the Arab country’s province of Homs would not have been possible without massive US support.

The warning was made by the Syrian Foreign Ministry in a letter to the United Nations

secretary general and the UNSC president on Monday, Syria's official news agency SANA reported.

Two Israeli F-15 warplanes carried out strikes from Lebanese air space on T-4 air base in Homs on Sunday that killed and maimed several people. Syrian air defense systems shot down five out of eight missiles fired.

In the framework of its policies based on practicing state terror and providing constant support for armed terrorist groups as well as violating UNSC resolutions, the authorities of the Israeli regime renewed acts of aggression against Syrian territories, with Israeli F15 jets launching missiles from the Lebanese airspace on T-4 airport in Homs province, Syria’s Foreign Ministry said in the letter.

The ministry noted that Israel’s repeated acts of aggression against Syria had failed to protect the regime’s partners and agents represented by terrorist groups and prevent the Syrian army from achieving gains against terrorism.

#3  I really do not understand why Israel doesn't just invade Syria, kill everyone they don't like, and then withdraw.

It makes a statement, and can be repeated as often as necessary.
