Afghanistan
Mullah Omar's son was forced to accept Mullah Mansoor as new Taliban leader
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The family members of Mullah Mohammad Omar particularly his son Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob were forced to accept Mullah Akhtar Mansoor as the new leader of the Taliban group, it has been claimed.

The Afghanistan Islamic Movement Fidai Mahaz, a splinter group of the Taliban group, has claimed that there has been no breakthrough to resolve issues among the Taliban leadership despite forcing Mullah Yaqoob to accept Mullah Akhtar Mansoor as new Taliban group leader.

The Taliban group claimed a week ago that the family members of Mullah Mohammad Omar -- the group's founder and former supreme leader, have pledged allegiance to the newly appointed Taliban group chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor.

The group issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon claiming that Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
's brother Mullah Abdul Manan Akhunda and his son Maulavi Mohammad Yaqoob pledged allegiance during a meeting attended by the religious holy mans and senior Taliban leaders.

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
the Fidai Mahaz group said in its latest statement that Mullah Akhtar's assumption of controlling the situation is false, claiming that the situation has further deteriorated and is getting worse as each day passes.

This comes as reports emerged earlier this week suggesting persistent differences among the Taliban leadership as talks between the newly appointed Taliban group chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor and the dissatisfied Taliban capos failed to resolve tensions as a result of Mullah Mansoor's appointment.

The reports further added that the rift could result into a split among the Taliban group leadership could derail fledgling peace talks between the insurgency and the Afghan government and open the way for the Islamic State

group to expand its foothold in the country.

Mullah Abdul Manan Niazi, a front man for the anti-Mansour faction, said talks between Mansour and the dissatisfied commanders had failed.

"We waited for two months and wanted Mullah Mansour to understand the situation and step down to let the Supreme Council choose the new leader by consensus -- but he failed," said Niazi.

Niazi further added that the dissident commanders will now direct their own attacks on the Afghan government and its foreign allies in Afghanistan.

"Anyone engaged in murderous Moslem activities under the leadership of Mullah Mansour isn't a jihadi," he said. "We will now publicly oppose him."

Afghan Taliban factions issue contradictory Eid messages
[DAWN] The new leader of the Afghan Taliban, Mullah Mansoor, called for unity in a message released on Tuesday to mark the coming Eidul Azha, but a rival faction issued its own statement calling for a new leadership vote.

The competing messages come days after a group of dissident Taliban capos denounced Mansoor's recent appointment to replace the Death Eater group's late leader, Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
.

Divisions within the Taliban have threatened to derail fledgling peace talks with the Afghan government and allow the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group to expand its foothold in the region.

Mansoor was hastily appointed Taliban leader in July after Afghan intelligence leaked the news that the reclusive Omar had been dead for more than two years. Mansoor was Omar's deputy.

Some Taliban capos oppose Mansoor, blaming him for concealing news of Omar's death, and describe his appointment as irregular.

Mansoor, however, said the divisions were a creation of the enemy.

"The creation of different groups ... is the last conspiracy of the invaders for continuation of the American proxy war in Afghanistan," he said in the Eid message.

April 6 Youth Movement says leader has been arrested
[Al Ahram] The April 6 Youth Movement announced on Tuesday that its current leader, Amr Ali, was tossed in the clink
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
by security forces earlier in the day.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the political opposition movement stated that Ali was arrested in Shebin El-Kom district in Menoufeya governorate by state security.

The movement added that the reasons behind his arrest are unclear.

In statements to Al-Ahram's Arabic website, Khaled Ismail, a member of the movement's political office, said that Ali's brother was the one who informed the movement about the arrest.

Ismail added that there was an arrest warrant issued against Ali in June after an April 6 member was arrested in Cairo for distributing flyers calling for a strike. Ali was not arrested at the time, however, and the member was released.

Ismail said that Ali's recent arrest could be connected to that warrant.

Ali was elected as the April 6 Youth Movement coordinator in October 2013, succeeding its founder and long-time coordinator Ahmed Maher.

Maher is currently serving a three-year jail term -- along with prominent activists Ahmed Douma and Mohammed Adel -- on charges of holding unauthorised demonstrations and using force against the police.

The April 6 Youth Movement was founded in 2008 to support protesting workers in the Nile Delta's Mahalla. It soon developed into one of the leading opposition movements during the Mubarak era. After the ousting of president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
in February 2011 , the movement continued to play a role in the political scene.

Alleged Hungary Border Riot Leader Detained
[DailyNewsHungary] The Szeged county court, in southern Hungary, on Tuesday ordered the preliminary detention for one month of a Syrian man who was allegedly one of the organisers of clashes between migrants and police last week. The Syrian known as Ahmed H is also alleged to be a member of a terrorist front.

A court spokeswoman said on Tuesday that the man held a Schengen visa but had entered Hungary illegally. Following last Wednesday’s clashes in Roszke at the Hungarian-Serbian border, the man was trying to leave Hungary for Austria on Saturday when he was detained, Erika Pragai added.

He had been seen, together with another man questioned in the case, using a loudspeaker to incite migrants who acted violently against police at Roszke last Wednesday. After the migrants broke down a gate at the border crossing, the Syrian man entered Hungarian territory and continued giving instructions through the loudspeaker before briefly returning to Serbian territory.

The national police headquarters said on its website that according to international information the Syrian national, 39, is also a member in an Islamic fundamentalist movement called Tablighi Jamaat that is also used as a front for terrorist organisations sending radicals to target countries. He holds a work permit in Cyprus.

The man has appealed against the ruling.

EU States Agree Relocation of 120,000 Refugees 'by Large Majority'
[AnNahar] EU interior ministers on Tuesday approved by a "large majority" a plan to relocate 120,000 refugees around the bloc but only after overriding fierce opposition from central and eastern European countries.

"Decision on relocation for 120,000 persons adopted today, by large majority of member states," the EU's Luxembourg presidency said in a tweet after an emergency meeting in Brussels.

"We, Slovaks, Romanians, Hungarians against, and Finland abstained. The resolution was accepted," Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec said in a separate tweet.

The four countries, led by Hungary, are bitterly opposed to the European Commission plan, insisting Brussels has no right to make them take in thousands of the people seeking refuge in Europe.

To do so, amounts to a violation of national illusory sovereignty, they argue.

An EU diplomat told AFP the decision was taken by so-called qualified majority vote.

It means that the Commission failed to get unanimous backing from all 28 member states for its relocation plan ahead of an emergency EU leaders summit Wednesday on the worst migrant crisis since World War II.

The squabble was a repeat of the interior ministers meeting last week but this time, pressed by La Belle France and Germany, the plan was put to a vote.

The outcome is binding on all 28 member states although implementation may prove problematic given the depth of opposition and the issue will very likely feature again at Wednesday's summit.

Last week's meeting did endorse plans to relocate a separate 40,000 refugees which the Commission unveiled in May as the crisis deepened.

The diplomat said that of the 120,000, some 66,000 migrants who have been granted asylum will be relocated from Greece and Italia which along with Hungary have borne the brunt of the flood of migrants fleeing war and turmoil across the Middle East and Africa.

That leaves 54,000 places -- which Hungary had rejected in its opposition to the Commission plan -- to be redistributed.

EU sources said earlier Tuesday Greece and Italia may get most of these places, while others now finding themselves in the frontline such as Austria and Croatia could also get additional help.

German Intelligence 'Concerned' Islamists Recruiting Refugees
[AnNahar] German intelligence warned Tuesday that the number of Islamic murderous Moslems in the country had increased sharply in recent months and expressed serious concern that they were recruiting among refugees.

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), Germany's domestic security watchdog, said the number of radical Salafists
...Salafists are ostentatiously devout Moslems who figure the ostentation of their piety gives them the right to tell others how to do it and to kill those who don't listen to them...
had surged to 7,900 in September from 7,500 in June, and that many were trying to lure asylum-seekers into their ranks.

"We are very concerned that Islamists in Germany are trying, under the cover of humanitarian assistance, to exploit the situation of the refugees for their own ends and to proselytize and recruit among asylum-seekers," BfV president Hans-Georg Maassen said in a statement.

Germany expects to receive up to one million asylum-seekers this year, five times more than last year. Syrians, who are fleeing their war-ravaged country, form the largest group.

Maassen said that a total of 740 radical Moslems had left Germany to join jihadists in Syria and Iraq, 20 percent of them female. Around one-third of those who went to the region have returned to Germany, while about 120 of them have been killed.

He said the BfV was keeping close watch on such activities given their "significant radicalisation potential" in the migrant community.

"We are keeping a particularly close eye on unaccompanied minors among the refugees, who could be easy targets for Islamists," he said.

Maassen stressed that his office had no evidence that jihadist groups were using the large influx of refugees to infiltrate Germany.
Evidence generally comes much later, while he is already concerned now.
And he said the BfV was also concerned that far-right groups were seizing on the issue of Germany's openness to refugees for propaganda purposes, saying it contained "significant potential for escalation".

Maassen warned that the risk of festivities with left-wing counter-demonstrators also "should not be discounted".

- Dawn raids-
German police carried out dawn raids in Berlin Tuesday targeting individuals suspected of inciting people to go and fight for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group in Syria.

The raids began at 6:30 am (0430 GMT) and targeted, among others, a 51-year-old Moroccan suspected of recruiting for the jihadists, police said in a statement.

A 19-year-old Macedonian thought to be currently in Syria is also suspected of involvement in the recruitment drive, it said.

"We are looking for evidence to see whether these allegations are true," a police front man said. No arrests were made.

One raid was conducted at an association linked to a mosque in Berlin's central Tempelhof district, the front man said. Seven homes were also searched.

"We have no indications that anything was being planned in Germany," he said when asked about indications of any plot to attack targets here.

But people who go to fight in Syria "gain experience of violence there and one day or another can return to Berlin", he said.

He added that there was no link to an incident last Thursday in which an Iraqi man with a jihadist background stabbed a German policewoman before officers shot him dead in Berlin.

Germany has been spared a major Islamist attack, unlike many of its European neighbors, but the country has been called a potential target in IS propaganda. In August, two German-speaking jihadists claiming to belong to IS threatened Germany with attacks in an execution video broadcast online.

Radical Islamists recruiting refugees in Germany
[ARA] The number of radical Islamists in Germany had increased remarkably in the recent months, German intelligence warned on Tuesday.

Germany's Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) reported that the number of Islamist faceless myrmidons has reached 7,900 in September from 7,500 in June, adding that many were trying to lure asylum-seekers into their ranks.

"We are very concerned that Islamists in Germany are trying, under the cover of humanitarian assistance, to exploit the situation of the refugees for their own ends and to proselytize and recruit among asylum-seekers," BfV chief Hans-Georg Maassen said in a statement.

In the meantime, German police carried out eight raids in Berlin on Tuesday targeting suspects recruiting people to join the ranks of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS) radical group in Syria.

The German police said the raids "began at 6:30 am and targeted, among others, a 51-year-old Moroccan, suspected of recruiting for the holy warrior group."

"A 19-year-old Macedonian thought to be currently in Syria is also suspected of involvement in the recruitment drive," it said in a statement.

"One raid was conducted at an association adjoining a mosque in Berlin's central Tempelhof-Schoeneberg district."

More than 600 German nationals have joined radical groups in Iraq and Syria, according to German intelligence.

Le Pen to go on trial for anti-Muslim remarks
[ARABNEWS] PARIS: French far-right party leader Marine Le Pen will go on trial for comparing Moslem street prayers to wartime Nazi occupation, party officials and the prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.

Le Pen, whom polls see likely to win a regional election in northern La Belle France in December, has widened the National Front's appeal since she took its helm in 2011 by expelling Lions of Islam and cracking down on anti-Semitism.

But the party also thrives on concerns over immigration and radical Islam. In a meeting in 2010, Le Pen criticized Moslems praying in the streets when mosques are full.

She will be judged on Oct. 20 over charges of "incitement to discrimination over people's religious beliefs," the prosecutor's office in Lyon said.

Le Pen had told the 2010 rally in Lyon: "I'm sorry, but for those who really like to talk about World War Two, if we're talking about occupation, we could talk about that (street prayers), because that is clearly an occupation of the territory."

"It is an occupation of sections of the territory, of neighborhoods in which religious law applies, it is an occupation. There are no tanks, there are no soldiers, but it is an occupation anyhow, and it weighs on people," she added.

She reacted indignantly on Tuesday to news of the trial." It is a scandal that a political leader can be sued for expressing her beliefs," she told Rooters. "Those who denounce the illegal behavior of fundamentalists are more likely to be sued than the fundamentalists who behave illegally."

It was not immediately clear whether the trial, which will take place less than two months before the December regional election, could harm Le Pen's chances of winning over the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. Her opinion poll ratings have not suffered from a row with her father Jean-Marie, the FN founder, whom she expelled from the party in August for comments playing down the Holocaust.

Berlin: Aggressive 'Refugees' At Registration Center
Link to the article in German.

This article is only a regional vignette describing events at one registration center.
Still, the apparent escalation bodes ill for the future.

A short summary:

On 9/22 a riot started in front of the Berlin registration center (LoGeSa). It is rumored that the trigger was a security guard shoving a refugee child.

Refugees pelted security guards with stones. Members of LoGeSa withdrew into the building. Police was called. The situation calmed down.
More detailed information is unavailable at this time.

On 9/21 there was a spontaneous demonstration of refugees before LoGeSa after it was announced that no more registrations would be performed for the day.

Refugees chanted, demanding asylum and stormed a barricade. Police was called and the situation calmed down.

On 9/17 two refugees threatened to jump off a balcony on the building's 10th floor. Police was called and calmed them down.

The Grand Turk
Is Turkey Secretly Working on Nuclear Weapons?
Some months ago it became known that the German Intelligence Service (Bundesnachrichtendienst - BND) was spying on Turkey. Turkey's political leadership was none too happy. Yet the BND has good reasons to keep a watchful eye on Ankara. It is not only the crises in Iraq and Syria, drug-smuggling, people-trafficking and the activities of the PKK that make Turkey a legitimate target for German intelligence. For quite some time, evidence is mounting that Ankara is trying to acquire nuclear weapons.

Over the past two decades, discussions within the nuclear community about emerging nuclear powers always centred on the "usual suspects": Iran, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Egypt, Japan, South Korea and Turkey. Not surprisingly, opinions as to the likelihood of a military nuclear program differed. In the case of Iran, for example, the evidence appeared solid. By contrast, the case of Turkey was built on vague indications.

This list of likely nuclear aspirants has not changed since, yet the likelihood of a Turkish nuclear weapons program has increased dramatically. Simply put: the Western intelligence community now largely agrees that Turkey is working both on nuclear weapon systems and on their means of delivery. Iran is the model to emulate. Consequently, Turkey has started a large-scale civilian nuclear program, justified by the country's urgent energy needs. In 2011, Turkey concluded a $20bn contract with the Russian company ROSATOM on a large reactor complex. Two years later, a similar agreement was concluded with a Japanese-French consortium, this time over $22bn. President Erdogan also announced yet another power plant, to be built entirely by indigenous personnel.

Two Kurdish Ministers Resign from Turkey's Interim Government
[ALMANAR.LB] Two ministers from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democracy Party (HDP) resigned from the interim government at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the private channel NTV said.

EU Affairs Minister Ali Haydar Konca and Development Minister Muslum Dogan had joined the caretaker government ahead of snap elections due on November 1 -- the first time in Turkish history that representatives of a pro-Kurdish party had taken seats in the government.

According to a statement from the prime minister's office quoted by NTV, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu accepted their resignation, and neither will be immediately replaced in his cabinet.

NTV said the ministers -- vocal critics of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) since they were appointed last month -- resigned over a debate on terrorism at the weekly cabinet meeting in Ankara.

Muslim Warns 'We Will Be the Majority Soon' at NJ School Board Meeting (VIDEO)
A group of Muslims angry that schools would not be closed in observance of an upcoming Muslim holiday took over a school board meeting in Jersey City, New Jersey this week.

At one point, one woman even warned that the concerns of the Muslim community must be addressed because, "We will be the majority soon."
America is not Europe, my dear. This has all sorts of unexpected ramifications for those who fail to understand it.
The Blaze reports:

At one point, things became so heated that an official urged security to "take charge" of the situation. At least one person was seen on video being escorted from the meeting.

"We feel alienated from the Board of Education, we feel alienated from this system," Omar Abouelkhair told WNBC-TV.
There's always private school, if you don't like the public one. Not long ago the Saudis would have financed it, but nowadays things are a bit tight in that corner.
"We're going to be the majority soon," another said.
So it was said. Repeating doesn't increase the likelihood of 1% becoming 51%, though.
Next week is the Muslim holiday Eid al-Atha. While Muslim students are excused from the classroom on that day if they choose to participate in the religious observances, the school board has decided to hold classes for all other students.
That's how it is for the Jews, too, and the Hindus, and the atheists, if they happen to have a holy day of their own. The reason Christmas Day is part of the winter holidays is because 70% of the population is Christian, and there's no point in holding classes when they're all elsewhere.

So each pulls their different ways. In Howard county in one school system you have a white and black PTA as a small example. They will fight with each other. Those who have poor family units will fall to the wayside. They will bring their culture, their ways and their many problems. The new life will become the old life. They are doomed to the same fate of their home country. When they leave home they look back too much.

IHC seeks reply on Gitmo inmate's plea
[DAWN] A high court bench, on Monday, sought comments from an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on an intra-court appeal filed for the release of a Pak prisoner, detained at the US detention centre at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Asad Rajput told the Islamabad High Court (IHC) division bench consisting of Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi and Justice Aamir Farooq that the IMC was likely to meet in two week's time to discuss issues related to the prisoners detained in foreign countries.

According to the DAG, the committee consists of the interior minister, the PM special assistant on foreign affairs and secretaries from the foreign and interior ministries. He also said that the committee would submit its report a couple of weeks after the meeting.

Subsequently, the bench put off the hearing for a fortnight.

The petitioner, Mohammad Shafi, informed the court through his counsel that his brother-in-law Mohammad Ahmed Ghulam Rabbani was one of the men that had been handed over to the US as one of the prisoners transferred during the war against terror.

He said Rabbani had been picked up by Pak intelligence officials in 2001 and handed over to the US authorities without being charged or given the right to defend himself.

In January 2002, Rabbani was flown to Islamabad and handed over to a group of US intelligence officials and in August of that year, he was transferred to an unofficial underground prison near Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, where he was kept for a year and subjected to torture.

In August 2003, Rabbani was transferred to the prison at Bagram airbase, where the cruel treatment continued, the petitioner maintained.

In January 2004, the prisoner was shifted to Guantanamo Bay, where he has been receiving terrible treatment until now, the appeal claimed.

The appeal said that details about Rabbani's abduction, his torture and subsequent rendition to US authorities and the torture in prisons in Pakistain and Afghanistan and subsequent transfer to Guantanamo Bay had been provided by an American lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, in an affidavit duly attested by the Pakistain High Commission in London.

The man's family welcomed the development with relief and urged the government to spare his life on medical grounds.

Basit, 43, who was convicted of murder in 2009, has always maintained his innocence. Basit contracted tubercular meningitis in 2010 while in prison which left him paralysed from the waist down, according to rights groups and jail officials.

Basit was due to be hanged on Tuesday, but a court delayed the execution after Justice Project Pakistain (JPP), the human rights law firm handling his case, raised concerns about how the wheelchair-bound man would mount the scaffold.

According to prison official Mohammad Safdar, a magistrate made the decision to postpone the death sentence after talking to Basit. The hanging was initially scheduled for just before dawn.

He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
on Tuesday said that the security agencies were quite clear that the criminal mastermind of Badaber terrorist attack was operating from Afghanistan.

Talking to media in Islamabad, the interior minister said "the criminal mastermind's accomplices have been identified as five out of the 14 holy warriors killed in the attack were from Pakistain while the rest were foreign citizens".

Nisar said the government has decided to share all evidences with Afghanistan about the holy warriors involved in the PAF camp attack, mentioning that holy warriors were operating from Afghan soil.

"The security agencies have got information about the whereabouts of terrorists, where they had stayed and from where they came, as some clues had surfaced and things were moving forward quickly in this regard," he added.

The interior minister said that Pakistain had taken numerous measures to tackle the menace of terrorism and it expects the same from the Afghan side which needs to do more in this regard.

US announces $419M in additional Syrian humanitarian aid
I wonder if Congress voted on this, or was it just President Obama and his pen?
[Rudaw] The US has announced it will provide an additional $419 million in humanitarian aid assigned for those affected by the conflict in Syria.

The additional money will be spent on emergency healthcare, clean drinking water, food, shelter and relief supplies for those in need, the White House announced on Monday, The Hill newspaper reported.

"We have long said that the most important contribution to address the urgent humanitarian needs of these refugees is in the form of trying to meet their basic needs," White House front man Josh Earnest told news hounds. "This is the urgent relief that Syrian refugees need."

This will bring the total amount of aid provided by the US to Syria to $4.5 billion, the world's largest amount of aid to Syria since the start of the ongoing Syrian Civil War.

The aid increase follows a series of announcements by US and world leaders about ramping up the response to a massive influx of refugees fleeing the Middle East.

On Sunday, the United States announced it will increase the number of refugees it accepts by 15,000 over each of the next two years, bringing the total number of refugees it accepts each year to 100,000 by 2017, according to US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry

High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson Adrian Edwards announced in a press briefing in Geneva the UNHCR had recorded that more than 442,440 refugees and migrants arrived to Europe through the Mediterranean this year, 2,921 people bit the dust trying to do so and up to 4,000 people are arriving on the Greek islands daily.

The UNHCR reported there should be more opportunities for Syrian refugees residing in neighboring countries to Syria to access legal channels to the EU, including enhanced resettlement and humanitarian admission, family reunification and humanitarian and student visas.

Iraq
HRW: Shiite militias violated laws of war in Tikrit battle
[Rudaw] Pro-Iraqi government Shiite militias were in violation of the laws of war in retaking the city of Tikrit from ISIS bully boyz in March and April 2015, according to a report released Sunday by Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
."Militiamen deliberately destroyed several hundred civilian buildings with no apparent military reason after the withdrawal of the Lion of Islam gang Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, also known as ISIS, from the area," HRW said in a blurb promoting the report.

The 60-page report, "Ruinous Aftermath: Militia Abuses Following Iraq's Recapture of Tikrit," used satellite imagery to confirm eyewitness accounts.

After ISIS fled Tikrit, "Hizbollah Battalions and League of Righteous forces, two of the largely [Shiite] pro-government militias, kidnapped more than 200 Sunni residents, including children, near al-Dur, south of Tikrit," according to the release. "At least 160 of those kidnapped remain unaccounted for."

In addition to being an ISIS stronghold, Tikrit, the capital of Salahadin province, was the hometown of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, a Sunni, who frequently targeted and killed Shiites.

Before the beginning of the Tikrit campaign, Shiite militia leaders swore to avenge a June 2014 ISIS massacre of at least 770 Shiite military cadets at the Camp Speicher facility near Tikrit, according to HRW. This may have accounted for the Shiites' harsh tactics towards Tikrit's Sunni residents.

HRW said Shiite militias were also responsible for the extrajudicial killings of suspected ISIS prisoners, and that a police officer had seen suspects bumped off after surrendering. Rooters journalists in Tikrit saw another suspected ISIS fighter stabbed to death by a federal police officer.

Sheikh Malik Shahhab, a prominent businessman and brother of al-Dur's mayor, according to the report told HRW he overheard a Shiite fighter say, "We burned and destroyed al-Dur, because they (the residents) are ISIS and Baathists."

"Iraqi authorities need to discipline and hold accountable the out-of-control militias laying waste to Sunni homes and shops after driving ISIS out," Joe Stork, HRW's deputy Middle East director, said in the report. "Abusive militias and their commanders acting with impunity undermine the campaign against ISIS and put all civilians at greater risk."

The Shiite militias cited by HRW in the report are part of the Hashd al-Shaabi, the Arabic term for "Popular Mobilization Units," or PMUs. The PMU's were stood up by a fatwa called by Iraq's Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in June 2014 following the regular Iraqi army's total failure to halt ISIS' blitz of western and northern Iraq. The PMUs receive equipment and salaries from the central government. They have also received support and training from Iran.

HRW in its report called on the US and Iran, the two biggest supporters of the central Iraqi government, to hold the PMUs accountable for their actions and numerous human rights

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Police reinforcements flood West Bank, Jerusalem ahead of Yom Kippur
[Ynet] Soldiers prevent stabbing attack; Temple Mount access limited as authorities prepare for violence on Jewish holy day.

Thousands of police forces were deployed to high-tension areas Tuesday morning and troops were placed on high alert in preparation for Yom Kippur as Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon ordered the complete closure of the West Bank and Gazoo to begin at noon until midnight Wednesday.

Tuesday morning a woman attempted to stab a IDF soldier at a checkpoint in Hebron. The female was shot in the leg and seriously maimed before being evacuated by the Red Islamic Thingy to a nearby medical facility. The soldier was unharmed.

After a situation assessment, police decided to restrict entrance to the Temple Mount on Tuesday to Paleostinians over the age of 40 in an effort to decrease the likelihood of violence and protect the thousands of Jews expected to pray at the Western Wall for Yom Kippur.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the radioactive tadpoles grown into frogs. Really big frogs, in fact...
volunteers of the Israeli Civil Guard, in coordination with police, will provide armed security at local Synagogues throughout the country.

As on every Yom Kippur, roadblocks were erected to prevent vehicular traffic from East Jerusalem into the west, to prevent the likelihood of confrontation.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israel will pay damages to the church where Christians believe Jesus performed the miracle of loaves and fishes, after an arson attack by suspected Jewish Lion of Islams, the justice ministry said.

Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein decided the Church of the Multiplication in Tabgha "should be compensated for the damages caused to it by the arson, in accordance with property tax regulations," a statement said Monday.

Two suspected Jewish turbans have been charged with the torching of the church on June 18.

Tax authorities had initially refused the church's request for compensation, saying it was not clear that the attack was on "nationalistic" grounds.

The justice ministry however determined that, based on the charges against the suspects, the attack was related to the "Israeli-Arab conflict" and instructed the church be compensated, Weinstein's office said.

Church officials told AFP the sum requested was approximately seven million shekels ($1.7 million, 1.6 million euros).

The arson attack, at the site where many Christians believe Jesus fed the 5,000 in the miracle of the five loaves and two fish, completely destroyed one of the buildings in the compound. The church itself was not damaged.

Hebrew graffiti was found on another building within the complex, reading: "Idols will be cast out" or destroyed.

Two Jewish Lion of Islams, Yinon Reuveni and Yehuda Asraf, were charged in connection with the arson and graffiti.

#1  This is nice of Israel. The place is a tourist attraction for Christians and generates revenues for the state, so probably a good investment.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: Hezbollah to cease offensive action in Syria
[Ynet] Lebanese media outlet quotes diplomats claiming Hezbollah will only act defensively in Syria after fight for Al-Zabadani ends.

While Syria, Russia and Iran solidify their military relationships, embattled Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now...

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, according to Lebanese reports on Monday.

Hezbollah has been actively involved in Syria's civil war with troops on the ground fighting for the Assad regime, but the organization has informed the Syrian government that it will no longer take part in offensive military action, according to diplomatic sources who spoke to the Daily Star.

According to the report, Hezbollah is now expected to participate only in defensive actions after a battle currently being fought for the city of Al-Zabadani, some 45 kilometers from Damascus, is completed.

Even with the direct support of Iran and Russia, losing Hezbollah's offensive capabilities would be a serious blow to the Assad regime, which has suffered a string of losses for the past several months as government forces have found themselves on the back foot against the Islamic State and other rebels.

Current assessments suggest that Hezbollah is less than likely to entirely abandon the Syrian government, but perhaps Russia's increased involvement was, in part, meant to coincide with Hezbollah's decreased activity.

Meanwhile,

Hezbollah appears to be dealing with internal struggles. Kuwaiti news source Al Rai reported Tuesday morning that the organization tossed in the clink

one of its members accused of spying for a Western nation.

According to the report, the individual worked at a Hezbollah-run hospital in Beirut.

Hezbollah was said to be investigating the amount of damage done by the infiltration. No official sources confirmed the report, but the arrested individual was said to be privy to sensitive information including the details of maimed and dead fighters in the organization.

Which is more likely the reason for Hezbollah's decision. Again a pity.

Mere coincidence, of course.

Obama's Islamic State War Czar Stepping Down
President Barack Obama is about to lose the man he hand-picked to build the war effort against the Islamic State. Retired General John Allen will be stepping down as envoy to the global coalition this fall, and the White House is searching for a replacement to be the face of America’s flailing effort to destroy the jihadist group in Syria and Iraq.

Allen will leave government service in the coming weeks, four administration officials told us. State Department officials said they were not ready to officially announce Allen’s departure, but he has notified his superiors he will give up his job in early November, after serving just over one year. His chief of staff, Karin von Hippel, will also depart, to join a British think tank.

U.S. officials familiar with Allen's decision say he has been frustrated with White House micromanagement of the war and its failure to provide adequate resources to the fight. He unsuccessfully tried to convince the administration to allow U.S. tactical air control teams to deploy on the ground to help pick targets for air strikes in Iraq. Allen also tried several times to convince the White House to agree to Turkish demands for a civilian protection zone in Syria, to no avail.

Nonetheless, administration officials stress that Allen's decision to leave his post was motivated mainly by the health of his wife, who suffers from an auto-immune disorder.

Allen was successful in negotiating the deal whereby Turkey is now allowing the U.S. to use the Incirlik Air Base for air operations in Syria. But the broader campaign against the Islamic State has been stymied. The Turks recently launched an offensive not against the jihadists but against Kurdish separatists, who have been important allies to the U.S. on the ground. As Islamic State forces have expanded and consolidated territory in Syria, they have managed to keep control of Iraq's second-largest city, Mosul, and expand into Ramadi, the heart of the 2007-08 Sunni-led rebellion against al-Qaeda in Iraq, the predecessor organization to the Islamic State.

Finding someone to take the job won’t be easy. Just before he became Obama’s lead official in the fight against the Islamic State, Allen wrote an op-ed article in which he called the group a “clear and present danger to the U.S.” and said it “must be destroyed” quickly, using capabilities and power only the U.S. can bring to bear. Just over one year later, the president has yet to commit to a real plan to “degrade and destroy” the Islamic State, as he has repeatedly said is his goal. Until that changes, Allen’s replacement will face the same roadblocks that he did, and the war against the Islamic State will continue to flounder.

When Allen was named to his post in September 2014, he initially planned on staying for six months. He agreed to stay on for another six at the request of Secretary of State John Kerry earlier this year. In the short term, his responsibilities are expected to be passed on to his deputy, Ambassador Brett McGurk. But the White House eventually wants to find a big-name replacement for Allen, who as a four-star Marine Corps general led the international force in Afghanistan from 2011 to 2013.

Resilient insurgent group Ahrar al-Sham to play bigger role in Syria
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] When an kaboom killed almost all of its leaders in a single blow last year, many thought it was the end for Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
, a powerful Syrian holy warrior group founded by members loyal to al Qaeda.

But the group immediately re-emerged stronger. It replaced its leader and chose new military commanders. A few months later, it joined a coalition of holy warrior groups that seized the city of Idlib with at least 2,000 fighters, making it the most influential group in the Fatah Army (Army of Conquest), which includes al Qaeda's Syria wing, the Nusra Front.

YPG not a terrorist organization for US, spokesman says
[Hurriyet Daily News] The United States does not consider the Peoples' Protection Units (YPG), the armed wing of the Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD), a terrorist organization, State Department Spokesperson John Kirby has declared.

"We don't consider the YPG a terrorist organization, and they have proven successful against ISIL [Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. of Iraq and the Levant] inside Syria. And as I said, we're going to continue to work with counter-ISIL fighters who are and can be successful against this group, and they're not all Kurds," Kirby said at a presser in Washington, while responding to a question on the gap between the Turkish and the U.S. stance against the group.

"We understand that the Turkish government has concerns about the YPG. We continue to talk to them and engage them. We continue to be appreciative of the support that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
is making to the coalition and to direct kinetic activity against ISIL," Kirby said.

The spokesperson added that the coalition has come together for a common goal. "You do not have to agree on every issue; and you bring to the fight what you can, where you can, and when you can. And that's how we're managing this very important struggle."

Turkish officials have repeatedly raised concerns about the YPG's ties to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), but also said the group was not a target unless it targets Turkey.

Kirby also referred to U.S. concerns over Russia's recent steps to expand its military presence in Syria.
Although Russia has said it is boosting its military aid to Syria, the U.S. does not know if these statements are true, Kirby said.

Ceasefires extended in besieged Shiite towns
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Warring parties have agreed to extend ceasefires in two Shi'ite Moslem towns in northwestern Syria and another settlement near the Lebanese border until a wider deal is reached, Rooters said on Tuesday.

Pro-regime militia backed by Shi'ite Hezbollah have been defending the two towns - al-Foua and Kefraya - against Lion of Islam attacks. The Syrian army and Hezbollah are trying to capture the other border town, Zabadani, from rebels.

Fighters on all sides have been trying to reach a deal to evacuate civilians and swap prisoners.

There have been three local ceasefire agreed in those areas since August, the first two of which collapsed. The latest truce

followed a renewed offensive by bandidos Lion of Islams since Friday that made headway towards capturing the two Shi'ite villages.

Rebel sources say they are negotiating a deal with third parties in touch with Iranian and Hezbollah officials that would allow safe passage for the besieged bandidos Lion of Islams inside the centre of Zabadani who have been targeted in a weeks-long offensive.

It also would allow evacuation of thousands of Syrian civilians holed up in the two Shi'ite villages that represent the two last pockets of Syrian government influence in the northwestern province of Idlib.

They are being defended by irregular militia rather than the army.

Report: U.S.-Trained, 'Vetted Moderate' Syrian Rebel Leader Defects to Al-Qaeda, Turns Weapons Over to Terror Group
More on this story.
[PJMedia] Reports since yesterday indicate that a U.S.-trained Syrian rebel leader has deceived his American handlers and has defected to Jabhat al-Nusra -- the official al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria.

This report comes just days after a senior U.S. military commander told Congress that only 4 to 5 U.S.-trained Syrian fighters are effectively engaged against ISIS as a result of a $500 million program pushed through by GOP congressional leadership a year ago. Since July 2014, I have repeatedly covered the frequent defections of "vetted moderate" Syrian rebel groups to al-Qaeda and ISIS here at PJ Media.

Late yesterday, the reports that Atareb rebel commander Anas Obaid had defected to Jabhat al-Nusra and turned over his weapons began to emerge:
Words fail.
