Puntland concerned with deadlock amid widespread vote-buying
GAROWE, Somalia -- Puntland Government in northern Somalia on Friday said it is deeply concerned with the worsening political dispute between the President and Prime Minister amidst large scale vote-buying in Mogadishu, Garowe Online reports.
So it's a lot like Chicago. Or Philly. Or Milwaukee. Or Joisey...
According to a press statement from presidential spokesman, Puntland shares the concerns being expressed by international community members and appeals to the parties to break the deadlock through compromise.

"Puntland Government believes that the standing dispute that emanated from the recent cabinet reshuffle by the Prime Minister can not be a tantamount to the lingering confusion within the state institutions," read the statement.

Continuing, Puntland warned of what it described widespread vote-buying aimed at destroying government institutions at the expense of millions reeling under drought , life-threatening flooding and chronic insecurity.

"Puntland recommends, every single person who derails and negates the cessation of the ongoing dispute and mutually inclusive cooperation to be labelled a 'spoiler'," said the north eastern state, calling on international community to hold political spoilers accountable for.

On Thursday, in an interview with BBC Somali Service, United Nations envoy to Somalia Ambassador Nicholas Kay has undercut expectations of apology to some lawmakers in the 275-seat-chamber of parliament, unveiling that he sees no reason to apologize for vote-buying concerns.

While stressing the need for immediate solutions to the damaging bickering, he told that vote-buying remains apparent in accordance with the feeling among the members of the public.

As political division gains momentum, nearly 30 MPs who reportedly backed the no confidence motion in the prime minister yesterday defected from pro-president Mohamud faction.

Speaking on government-owned station, Radio Mogadishu, Mohamud urged parliamentarians to step in, and execute the tasks on the table, referring to the no-confidence motion.

"There are no personal differences between the Prime Minister and me, we are friends, we hang out, shoot some hoops, golf together," he went on. "The problem arises when it comes to the job".

Somalia's political clashes dragged to the fifth week, with international mediation efforts yielding no major breakthrough as of yet.

NYT piece. What matters isn't that they tied the "militants" to al-Qaeda, but rather that they finally admit to what everyone else knows.

Arabia
Qaida Vows Fierce Attacks on Yemen Shiite Militiamen
[AnNahar] The Al-Qaeda military chief in Yemen has vowed to launch fierce attacks against Shiite Huthi forces of Evil sweeping across the country, in an audio message posted Friday on jihadist websites.

"To the Huthis we say: brace yourselves for horrors that will make the hair of children turn white," said Qassem al-Rimi, the military chief of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...

AQAP, which is considered by Washington as the most dangerous arm of the jihadist organization, said several attacks targeting Huthis and claimed by the group were only a "warm-up".

"Today you are our target... and don't even think that your crimes will go unpunished," added Rimi.

Houthis overran the capital in September and then began taking territory east and south towards areas where the Sunni Al-Qaeda bully boyz are active.

AQAP has already threatened an "all out war" against the Huthis and claimed several deadly attacks on them, including one in October in Sanaa that killed 50 people.

Earlier this month, AQAP leader Nasser al-Wuhayshi accused the Huthis of collaborating with the United States and Iran to destroy Sunni Moslems.

China-Japan-Koreas
China covertly giving oil to Norks
China is secretly providing North Korea with oil, with shipments over the border either intentionally omitted from its export statistics or broadly identified as aid, according to South Korean intelligence officials.

Customs data released by Beijing indicates that no crude oil went over the border to North Korea in the first nine months of the year, although analysts in Seoul say that such a drastic halt in imports would have played havoc with the North's industrial capability and its military forces. Instead, analysts point out, industry appears to operating as usual and the military has to be unaffected by any shortages of fuel.

"Without China providing crude oil, the operation of many of North Korea's industrial facilities and vehicles would have been suspended," intelligence sources told Yonhap news agency. "But there have been no such indications as yet."

China's refusal to provide Pyongyang with fuel was interpreted as evidence that Beijing had finally grown weary of the unpredictable and destabilising behaviour of its neighbour and ally.

Beijing has long supported the Kim dynasty in North Korea but constantly cautioned the regime against being over provocative. Kim Jong-un, installed as dictator in December 2011, has chosen to ignore that advice and has carried out an underground nuclear test, launched a rocket into space, fired dozens of ballistic missiles and carried out a series of provocative moves against South Korea.

In an apparent show of displeasure that was applauded by the international community for putting pressure on the Kim regime, China ostensibly halted oil shipments suddenly in January. Previously, the North imported around 500,000 tons of crude from China every year.

North Korea has been busy in recent months developing new trade and political ties with Russia, with the two nations pushing ahead with the development of industrial zones in the North and a rail link over the border.

South Korean government officials deny that Russia has replaced China as the source of the North's crude oil, pointing out that imports from Russia have come to just 100,000 tons so far this year.

Spain Wakes Up to 'Homegrown' Extremist Threat
[AnNahar] Spain is fighting a new wave of "homegrown" Islamic extremism, raiding cells and hunting forces of Evil on the internet as scores of Spaniards join Islamist fighters in Syria and Iraq.

Ten years after al-Qaeda-inspired bombings on Madrid commuter trains killed 191 people in March 2004, Spanish authorities are tackling a new wave of krazed killers.

"We are seeing the hatching of homegrown jihadism," said Fernando Reinares, one of Spain's top terrorism experts, at a gathering of specialists in Madrid this week.

'Jihad' at French Summer Camp: Leaders Mimic Executions
[AnNahar] Four group leaders at a French summer camp are under investigation after a series of photos were discovered of them mimicking hostage executions and acts of torture, local authorities said Friday.
You can read the entire article at the link and not once will you find a mention of the first names of the "four group leaders". I'm rather suspecting, however, that the names are not "Jaques", "Pierre", "Hugo" and "Shirley"...
A man on his knees, a knife to his throat, surrounded by "jailers" in balaclavas, is pictured in one of about 20 images uncovered by the municipality of Colombes, just outside Gay Paree, which organized the camp.

"We filed a complaint on Thursday. They have also been suspended from their jobs and disciplinary action is under way," said Colombes mayor Nicole Goueta.

The photos were taken during the camp in August on an island in Brittany in northwest La Belle France.

The municipality was putting together an exhibition of images from summer camps when they stumbled upon the pictures on a USB key.

It is unclear whether any of the 45 children at the camp, aged between eight and 12, were involved in the staged scenes.

One of the pictures showed a child sitting in a corner looking scared but it was unclear whether "he was witnessing a horrific scene or if he was being punished," said Goueta.

"It is now up to the judicial system to find out if these men are susceptible to radical Islam."

The revelation of the photos comes as La Belle France grapples with homegrown jihadism, with several nationals seen in videos released by the Islamic State

fighter in Syria is to appear in court Friday on terror charges.

Nineteen-year-old Aicha arrived in the Netherlands on Wednesday with her mother Monique after going to Syria in February to marry an IS fighter she saw as a Robin Hood figure.

Annemarie Kemp, a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office, told AFP Aicha had been placed in durance vile
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
"on suspicion of crimes threatening state security".

She will make a brief court appearance behind closed doors on Friday to decide if she should remain in detention, with another hearing on Monday to decide if she should be charged. As is routine in the preliminary stage of Dutch prosecutions, Aicha's family name was not made public.

European nations are increasingly concerned about returning jihadist fighters, but the question of what to do with women who travel to Iraq and Syria but do not fight is a thorny one.

The authorities have barred Monique and Aicha's lawyers from talking to the press because of the sensitivity of the case.

But Monique, 49, has previously spoken at length to Dutch media about her daughter, previously known as Sterlina before adopting an Arab name, who "liked going out, playing the piano and listening to music".

She told Dutch television that her daughter first came home with the Bible, and then with the Koran. She converted to Islam and began wearing a face-covering niqab.

The turning point came when Aicha saw an interview on Dutch television with a Dutch-Turkish jihadist fighter, Omar Yilmaz.

Yilmaz, a former soldier in the Dutch army who also did national service in Turkey, is one of a group of Dutch jihadists who have traveled to Syria where he is training fighters for the IS group

"Look at that man, it's so good what he's doing," Aicha told her mother, who said she saw him as a Robin Hood figure.

Dutch authorities confiscated Aicha's passport to prevent her traveling to Syria following warnings from a friend. But she obtained an identity card, which is obligatory in the Netherlands, with which she could travel.

In the interview with Dutch television, Yilmaz, a handsome, wiry man with shaved head and a beard, explained how he had come to train IS recruits to shoot.

He said that he had been approached by a brother to "give some fighters some extras tips and tools, so that when there is a firefight and when we ship them out, they know what they are doing".

"If Dutch forces would send a unit or fighters to Syria to help the people, I would be the first to sign up for the Dutch army. But nobody is doing anything."

Aicha asked her mother to help her after her marriage to Yilmaz failed and she ended up with a Tunisian fighter, the Dutch tabloid daily Algemeen Dagblad said.

The paper reported that a niqab-wearing Monique crossed the border into Syria and traveled to the IS stronghold city of Raqa, but the Dutch prosecutor's office said they had met at the Turkish-Syrian border.

Roger Bos of the public prosecutor's office in southern city Maastricht, told local television channel L1 that Aicha needed support.

"I think that psychologically she needs support and she has that from her mother. Physically, I don't think she has any problems," Bos said.

"Is she a victim or a suspect? Maybe she's both."

"We don't know what she did over there, what her role was. Did she just stay at the home of the man she married there?"

Around 130 Dutch jihadists have left to fight in Syria, with 30 already having returned and 14 others killed in the fighting, according to the latest statistics from the Dutch intelligence services.

It is feared that returning jihadists, having been exposed to extreme violence, could be returning to Europe with orders to carry out terror attacks.

Biden and Erdogan were involved in a highly-publicized spat last month after the U.S. vice president suggested Ankara had changed its Syria policy after realizing it had encouraged the growth of IS.

Erdogan promptly declared that his relationship with Biden would be "history" for him had he said such a thing and the two sides even argued over whether there had been an apology.

#1  Aaay Peee: Biden announces new aid for Syrian refugees:

"Meanwhile, about 300 people protested Biden's visit to Turkey, chanting: "Biden get out. This country is ours." The demonstration occurred on the European side of Istanbul, as Biden was on his way to a meeting with Erdogan on the Asian side of the city.

Biden didn't see the protest, which was organized by the Youth Association of Turkey, the same group that roughed up three U.S. Navy sailors while chanting "Yankee, go home!" a week ago in Istanbul. The protesters threw red paint at the sailors and briefly succeeded in putting white sacks over their heads. The servicemen, who were not hurt, were from the USS Ross, a guided-missile destroyer then docked on an inlet of the Bosphorus Strait in the Black Sea."

India-Pakistan
Imran condemned for allegations against journalists
ISLAMABAD - Senior journalists have condemned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's allegations that journalists have received money from the government.
And they're wondering why they didn't get their share...
Speaking in Radio Pakistan's programme Nuqta-e-Nazar, Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Marvi Memon said that Imran has been dreaming to become the prime minister of Pakistan and wanted to use shortcut for this purpose. She said that Imran was making false allegations against every state institution and people, including courts, politicians, and now journalists. She lauded Radio Pakistan for playing vital role in disseminating information and making people aware of latest developments in Pakistan.

Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists President Ali Raza Alvi said that the journalists were neutral and supports only the truth.
Just like in the United States, he added...
Imran should clearly point out the black sheep in journalist community by providing evidences. He said that the PTI chairman should apologize, if his allegations were proved wrong; otherwise journalist community would take legal action against him. He said that journalists would now cover the PTI's public gatherings by wearing black ribbons as protest.

Senior journalist Ansar Abbasi said that Imran was used to blaming every person who did not favor his opinion. He had become frustrated and did not want to accept his defeat. Now, people did not take statements of Imran very seriously, he said. The statement of Imran that his mandate had been stolen was totally illogical, he said adding PTI chairman's allegations on respected judges are beyond comprehension.

Senior political analyst Dr Mehdi Hassan said that media had given more coverage to PTI's sit-in than it deserved. Repeated statements of Imran should not have been given importance. PFUJ former president Pervaiz Shaukat opined that political leaders should think twice before speaking and not accuse someone just for nothing.

Journalists do not support any particular party or leader, he said adding journalists also had the right to protest and they used this right during the Pakistan People's Party tenure. Imran should apologize for his allegations. If Imran provided the proofs, then PFUJ would take serious action against corrupt journalists, he said.

Iraq
U.N. Airlifts Winter Aid to Desperate Iraqis
[AnNahar] The U.N. said Friday it had begun airlifting tent insulation kits into Iraq to help some of the around two million people displaced in the conflict-torn country get through the harsh winter.

The United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
' refugee agency said the first of seven planned flights from Pakistain had touched down in Erbil in the northern Kurdish region late Thursday.

The flight was carrying 3,600 tent insulation kits, comprising polystyrene flooring and fiber insulation for tent walls, which will be distributed to camps across Iraq, UNHCR said in a statement.

Another six flights, carrying another 25,000 insulation kits from Lahore, where they are produced, are set to arrive before December 12, it added.

"Time is growing short," warned UNHCR regional chief Amin Awad, pointing out that temperatures were dropping fast across Iraq.

"We must get this essential support to the most vulnerable Iraqi displaced immediately," he said.

Around two million Iraqis have been displaced since January, most of them since the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group jihadists began seizing large swaths of the country in June, declaring an Islamic "caliphate" across much of Iraq and Syria.

More than 60,000 people are now living in eight tent camps across the country, with new camps being built to house more than 300,000 more, UNHCR said.

"Currently, as many as 700,000 people are living in unfinished or abandoned buildings, schools, religious centers, and even in parks," the agency warned.

The Iraqi government, the regional Kurdistan government and dozens of aid agencies are all working to help provide safe and warm shelter to all in need, but UNHCR warned time was not on their side.

Lacking funds also remain a "major challenge," said the agency, pointing out that it had received less than half of the more than $110 million it was seeking for its winterization program in Iraq.

The agency said it still needed 15,000 more insulation kits to reach its target of helping 40,000 families.

A long line of other items are also needed to help the displaced get through the winter, including warm clothing, stoves and kerosene.

Without such aid, it warned that "those displaced will suffer and the lives of the most vulnerable could be endangered."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel Eases Al-Aqsa Restrictions for Second Week
[AnNahar] Israel eased age restrictions for Friday prayers at Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque for a second straight week, allowing tens of thousands to attend despite high tensions following a wave of violence.
This, ladies and gentleman, is what the so-called "Israeli genocide" looks like in real life.
Police were out in force to prevent a repeat of festivities, led by young Paleostinians, that have rocked the Holy City for months.

"The police are on stand-by in different areas to respond if necessary to any disturbances... there are extra units in and around the Old City," police front man Micky Rosenfeld told AFP.

Paleostinian men and women of all ages shuffled into the Al-Aqsa compound, holy to both Moslems and Jews, as police carefully checked the identity cards of younger worshipers.

Clashes at the site are usually led by younger Paleostinian men, some of whom earlier this month hurled rocks and firecrackers at police who entered the compound and the Al-Aqsa mosque itself.

The Paleostinians have been infuriated by a far-right Jewish campaign for prayer rights at compound that threatens an ultra-sensitive, decades-old status quo under which Jews can visit but not pray.

Police had tried to preempt unrest by limiting male entry to those over 35.

But Israel eased the restrictions at Al-Aqsa last week after U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
announced agreement during talks in Jordan on steps to reduce tensions in the city.

Wasel Qassem, 35, said the lifting of the age bar might gradually help calm tempers.

"Restrictions were the main cause" of tension, said the radiotherapist who was able to pray at the site for the first time in several weeks.

"Al-Aqsa is an obvious cause for another intifada," or uprising, he said, adding that a spate of Paleostinian attacks in Jerusalem was perceived as "Dire Revenge or defense" of the compound.

The site, the third-holiest in Islam and the holiest to Jews who call it the Temple Mount, has been the focus of months of unrest in Israeli-annexed Arab east Jerusalem.

Israel controls entry to the site in the heart of east Jerusalem's Old City, although it is administered by Jerusalem's Moslem authorities while Jordan acts as custodian.

Israel is struggling to contain a spike in unrest in annexed Arab east Jerusalem that has seen a growing number of deadly attacks by Paleostinians.

On Tuesday two Paleostinians killed five people at a synagogue in west Jerusalem before being rubbed out by police -- an incident that took place far from Al-Aqsa and flashpoint eastern neighborhoods.

The attack, the bloodiest in the city for years, followed a spate of "lone-wolf" attacks, including two incidents in which Paleostinians ploughed cars into pedestrians in Jerusalem, killing four people.

The lifting of the age restriction appeared to calm tensions around the site last week, and early Friday there were none of the habitual festivities between Paleostinian youths and Israeli police.

But under the surface, Paleostinian resentment simmered.
F8. Or is it F22? I lose track, I'm afraid.
"The age limitations are only lifted because it's to their (Israel's) benefit," said 23-year-old Amir,
Brilliant insight there, Amir. Soon you will notice that nobody else likes the Palestinians either.
an engineer who had come from Ramallah in the West Bank to pray at the site for the first time since June.

"People are afraid of coming. The situation here is very risky," he said.
Stay home then, and avoid trouble. The Israelis won't mind.
Fellow worshiper Bilal underlined the importance of the site for Paleostinian Moslems, attributing months of tension to perceived Jewish attempts to take it over.

"Al-Aqsa is very important. A lot of people would die for it," he said.
Riiiiight.

Israel To Raze Terrorists' Homes, Despite Requests From EU
[Ynet] Germany, La Belle France, Britannia, Italia and Spain reportedly urged Israel to back down from bid to destroy homes of Jerusalem terrorists.

Israel has rejected an appeal by the five biggest members of the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
not to raze the homes of Paleostinians who carried out lethal attacks in Jerusalem, saying on Friday that the tactic was designed to deter further violence.

Haaretz reported the Foreign Ministry heard arguments from the German, French, British, Italian and Spanish ambassadors that the demolitions, carried out against one East Jerusalem dwelling this week and planned against four more, were liable to inflame tensions and were therefore counterproductive.

Paleostinians said Thursday that the Israeli police handed home demolition notices to families of four snuffies from East Jerusalem involved in terror attacks over the past three weeks, which claimed the lives of six Israelis and left 18 others maimed, including right-wing activist Yehuda Glick, who was targeted by a would-be assassin.

Confirming Thursday's meeting with the envoys, Foreign Ministry front man Emmanuel Nahshon said they were told that the measure was consistent with Israeli law and would be pursued.

"This is not meant to be punitive, but rather to dissuade others from carrying out terrorist attacks," Nahshon said.

Unrest has been stoked by deadlocked Paleostinian statehood talks, the Gazoo war and calls by some Israeli figures to allow Jewish prayer at a Jerusalem compound that houses Islam's third-holiest mosque and is the vestige of Judaism's biblical temples.

In a surge of lethal street violence in the holy city, three Paleostinians rammed cars into Israelis and two others went on a gun and knife rampage in a synagogue. The assailants, all from areas of Jerusalem occupied by Israel in the 1967 war and where the Paleostinians claim illusory sovereignty, were killed by police.

The family of cousins Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal, the two Paleostinians who carried out the deadly assault on a Jerusalem synagogue this week, said police have ordered the demolition of their homes. In addition to that, Adnan Husseini, the Paleostinian Authority minister for Jerusalem affairs, said the families of Ibrahim al-Akari and Muataz Hijazi also received the notices on Thursday.

Israel deems all of Jerusalem its indivisible capital - a status not recognised abroad - and grants residency rights to the city's Paleostinians.

Israel used home demolitions extensively during the armed Paleostinian revolt of 2000-2005 but suspended the practice, citing concern that it entrenched hostility.

Its revival in Jerusalem has also drawn criticism from the United States.

"We believe that punitive home demolitions are counterproductive in an already tense situation. This is a practice I would remind that the Israeli government itself discontinued in the past, recognizing its effects," State Department front man Jeff Rathke said on Wednesday.

Asked if Washington had asked Israel directly not to raze the Jerusalem homes, Nahshon said he was not aware of any such communication. "Our message would remain the same," he added.

#2  Look, EU, at least they gave the terrorists' families several days notice before demolishing their homes. Israel could have just gone in and demolished the homes with an air strike, and most of the people still inside.

#3  The polite thing would be for everyone to step outside to the parking lot for a smoke while the Israelis deal with the problem.

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group has launched a new video with captured journalist John Cantlie.

In the video, titled Lend Me Your Ears Episode 6, Cantlie says the US botched a July raid to rescue him and fellow hostages and says he was "abandoned" by the British Government.
