Egyptian activist loses bid for EU honor over call to kill Israelis
[IsraelTimes] An Egyptian activist’s nomination for a prestigious European honor was withdrawn because he called for the mass killing of Israelis.
Nice to know that some things are still beyond the pale for some people.
The withdrawal of Alaa Abdel Fattah’s nomination for the Sakharov Prize was announced Wednesday by the coalition of European Parliament left-wing parties that had nominated him.

“It emerges that one of the bloggers we proposed, Alaa Abdel Fatah who was a victim of repression in Egypt and locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
several times, called for the murder ‘of a critical number of Israelis’ in a tweet in 2012. We did not avail of this information when we put forward his candidacy,” Gabi Zimmer, president of the GUE/NGL Group in the European Parliament, wrote.

Named after Soviet scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov, the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought was established in 1988 by the European Parliament as a means to honor individuals or groups striving to defend human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
and freedom of thought and expression. The €50,000 ($63,000) prize is awarded to “exceptional individuals who combat intolerance, fanaticism and oppression.” Laureates included South African president Nelson Mandela, UN secretary general Kofi Annan
...Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh and so far the worst Secretary-General of the UN. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize for something or other that probably sounded good at the time. In December 2004, reports surfaced that Kofi's son Kojo received payments from the Swiss company Cotecna, which had won a lucrative contract under the UN Oil-for-Food Program. Kofi Annan called for an investigation to look into the allegations, which stirred up the expected cesspool but couldn't seem to come up with enough evidence to indict Kofi himself, or even Kojo...
, and teenage Pak campaigner Malala Yousafzai.

Abdel Fattah was nominated for the Sakharov Prize on September 23 along with rappers Mouad Belghouate (Morocco) and Ala Yaacoubi (Tunisia).

“We cannot and will not tolerate such behavior,” Zimmer wrote in her statement about Abdel Fattah’s 2012 remark about Israelis. “This call goes against all our principles as well as the criteria for nomination for the Sakharov Prize. Our group has always favored debate and political confrontation between peoples, including the Israeli people.”

In Egypt, Abdel Fattah is about to be tried under laws banning certain kinds of protest. In addition, he appealed a separate verdict of a month in prison for “insulting the interior ministry,” legal sources told Ahram Online.

Afghanistan
Cameron on surprise visit to Kabul
[ARABNEWS] Britannia’s Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
on Friday pledged support for Afghanistan’s newly sworn-in president and the country’s new unity government, saying during a surprise visit to Kabul that Britannia is committed to helping Afghans build a more secure and prosperous future.

Cameron was the first of world leaders to meet Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
Ahmadzai since his inauguration on Monday. The two had a meeting in Kabul on Friday morning and later held a joint presser.

Britannia has paid a heavy price for helping to bring stability to this country,” Cameron said, paying tribute to the 453 British servicemen and women who died while serving in Afghanistan.

“An Afghanistan free from Al-Qaeda is in our national interest — as well as Afghanistan’s,” he said. “And now, 13 long years later, Afghanistan can — and must — deliver its own security.”

Government mourns Benina dead
[Libya Herald] The government has said it stands by the army and police following yesterday’s suicide kabooms on Benina Airport.

The Thinni government issued a statement saying that Libya is in a battle against “abominable terrorism”, and that the fight is one that involves all the Libyan people.

It offered its condolences to the families of those who had perished in yesterday’s attacks and the subsequent festivities. The government reiterated its commitment to the police, the army and all security forces deployed throughout the country.

The government has announced that 24 soldiers died and 12 were maimed in yesterday’s violence. Reports from medical sources indicated that at least six attackers were killed and some 68 maimed.

Sudan says it recognises HoR
[Libya Herald] Sudan, which has been accused of supporting Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
, has said that it recognises the House of Representatives as Libya’s sole legitimate legislature. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
it has also said that it is neutral in regards to the conflicts in Libya and takes an equidistant position between all the factions to the country’s conflicts.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry issued a statement yesterday confirming Khartoum’s recognition of the HoR but which also called on the Libyan factions to negotiate national reconciliation.

It also summoned the Libya Chargé d’Affaires to protest at renewed accusations by Libyan army officials that Sudan had been supporting and arming militias in Libya. The undersecretary of the Sudanese ministry, Abdallah Hamad Al-Azrag, said that his country had not intervened in Libyan affairs but that it would be willing to mediate between opposing Libyan groups.

In a similar protest last month, Sudan denied supporting Libya Dawn and Islamists following accusations by the Libyan government that the Sudanese had been providing arms to Libya Dawn forces. The accusations followed the seizure of arms on a Sudanese plane that had landed in Kufra.

Arabia
Hezbollah advises Bahraini regime to heed peoples righteous demands
[ABNA.IR] Issuing a communiqué here Wednesday, Lebanese Hezbollah advised Bahrains Al Khalifa regime to heed peoples righteous demands and refrain from resorting to the methods that further complicate the situation and deepen the crisis there.

The Bahraini system is not even ready to listen to the righteous, legal, and peaceful demands of that countrys people, reads the communiqué of the Hezbollah Public Relations.

In the communiqué that is issued in reaction to the recent comments made by Bahrains information minister it is reiterated that Bahrains political system has for several years been pursuing populist, deceiving policies, diverting the realities, and accusing and condemning the popular and peaceful movements of that country.

The main objective of pursuing those policies is defaming those popular movements, accusing them of pursuing terrorist objectives and of being the mercenaries of foreign governments, it adds.

Bahrains Information Minister Samirah Rajab had recently claimed that the Lebanese Hezbollah has a hand in Bahraini peoples protest rallies.

Muslims urged to remain faithful to their rulers
[Pak Daily Times] Grand Mufti of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah – in his Hajj sermon in Masjid-e-Nimra at Mount Arafat on Friday – has said that murder is a great sin and ‘haram’ in Islam.

He urged Moslems to shun evil, practice unity and follow teachings of Islam, as it’s a complete code of life, it’s a perfect and definite religion of Allah, it teaches brotherhood among Moslems and provides spiritual, moral and social training.

Addressing millions of Hajj pilgrims, he urged Moslems to keep away from crimes, such as murder and other evil deeds. “The murder is great fitna (mischief) in Islam. Our religion teaches obedience of Allah and His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him),” he said.

“Islam prohibits obscenity as haram and sin… Oh Moslems! Be God-fearing, keep a control on yourselves,” he said. “Oh believers! Murder of a single person is the murder of entire humanity, and the one who committed this act unduly shall burn in the hell forever.”

He urged the Moslem rulers to discharge their duties honestly and said that they should not forget that they are answerable before Allah. The grand mufti asked the believers not to follow their wild wishes and worship Allah and remain thankful to Him for the blessings. He said that Islam preaches brotherhood and unity and one should never surrender that.

“Tyranny throws one in darkness whereas takwah (fear of Allah) leads one towards success,” he said. He said that the un-Islamic forces were hatching conspiracies against Islam and Moslem countries. “Blood is being shed… Khawarij (those who seceded from the mainstream Islam) are still among the ranks of Moslems,” he said.

The grand mufti said that jihad was also an obligation of Islam which should be carried out as per true and definite teachings of Islam. Praying to Allah for betterment and success of the Moslems, the top Islamic scholar urged Moslems to observe patience in their lives in testing times, protect each other’s lives and properties and work together for the success and prosperity of societies.

He said deviation from Islamic teachings was also one of the reasons for the problems faced by Moslems and the media of Moslem countries should play its role for raising the flag of Islam in the world. He said that Islam was easiest of religions, religion of humanity, based on truth and justice. “It contains principles for entire life,” he said.

He said the Holy Koran has declared Moslems the best of all nations because it preaches nobility and stops from wrongdoings. Sheikh Abdul Aziz appealed to the religious scholars to promote the true teachings of Islam and invite the people towards the path shown by the Holy Koran and Sunnah. He urged Moslems to spread love and humanity.

China-Japan-Koreas
Entry to Pyongyang cut off
48 hour rule definitely applies, folks, but this is beginning to look serious. It's either that Fat Boy is out of power (and maybe even dead) or the CIA is finally listening to my advice...
North Korea restricted entry and exit permissions to Pyongyang three days ago, a New Focus correspondent reports. The source could not confirm whether this move was related to Kim Jong-un’s disappearance from the public eye for the past 26 days.

On the ground, the measure is informally being suggested to be a part of the Party’s preparations for the upcoming October 10 celebrations regrding the founding of the Korean Worker’s Party.

But the difference of this occasion from past restrictions is that even Pyongyang residents, who had been out of the capital for business in Sinuiju or Najin-Sonbong, are not being issued with permissions to re-enter the capital.

According to the source, the restriction may be more severe this time round due to the meeting of the Supreme People’s Assembly having conlcuded only recently. Whether the severe restriction has been placed because Kim Jong-un’s health is poor as outsiders have been suggesting, or it is connected only to the Party’s anniversary celebrations, entry and exit permissions in and out of Pyongyang are prohibited for now.

When asked about outside speculations regarding Kim Jong-un’s health in the wake of his disappearance from public view, the correspondent replied that enigma arising from disappearance and re-appearance was a tactic that had frequently been employed under Kim Jong-il, taking deliberate and political advantage of obssessive outside media attention.

Fat Boy's sister reportedly running N. Korea
North Korean leader Pudgy's Kim Jong-Un's younger sister Kim Yo-Jong has taken over the running of the country and is making all the important decisions in her brother's absence, according to a think tank in Seoul formed by North Korean defectors.

The North Korea Intellectuals Solidarity reported Wednesday that Kim Yo-Jong convened a meeting of Workers' Party officials in early September and secured their support for her to act as regent while her brother is institutionalized hospitalized. All party officials have been commanded to continue faithfully carrying out Kim Jong-Un's orders and the military has been put on high alert, the NKIS said.
Is the Nork military ever NOT on high alert?
The North Korean government last week publicly admitted that Fat Boy Kim Jong-Un is unwell although it did not elaborate on his health issues.

Pudge has ankle surgery
Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader who has mysteriously been missing from the public eye for almost a month, sparking rumours ranging from a stroke to a coup d'etat, is apparently just recovering from ankle surgery.

Mr Kim had fractured both of his ankles
He got so pudge his ankles collapsed?
and had surgery in Pyongyang in the middle of September to treat them, the Chosun Ilbo, South Korea's largest newspaper, reported on Tuesday, citing an unnamed source.

"I heard that Kim Jong-un injured his right ankle in June after pushing ahead with on-site visits and ended up fracturing both ankles because he left the injury unattended," the source said, adding that the leader had had the operation at the Bonghwa Clinic, an exclusive hospital for high-ranking party members.

Such is the fascination with North Korea, the world's most impenetrable country, that rumours spread like wildfire. But they are almost always impossible to verify.

Nevertheless, it is true that Mr Kim has become noticeably more corpulent rotund since he took over the leadership of North Korea from his father, Kim Jong-il, in December 2011. He was pictured limping in July during a ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of his grandfather, former North Korean leader Kim Il-sung, causing speculation about his health.
All that weight, something had to give...
But the gossip mill started up again last week when Mr Kim, the third-generation leader of North Korea, missed a regular session of the Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang. He has not been seen in public since September 3, when he attended a concert with his wife. The rumours went into overdrive when the state-run Korean Central TV said the "Great Successor" was in an "indisposed condition".
Gout, sepsis or sucking chest wound, in increasing order of preference...
"Despite some extreme blinding pain discomfort, our Marshal continues to come out and lead the people," said the narrator of a documentary called Improving the Lives of the People, showing footage of Kim staggering limping through the Taedonggang Tile Factory last month.

Outside commentators have guessed that Mr Kim has gout, which runs in the family, or has been drinking and eating too much. Diabetes and high blood pressure have also been put forward as possible causes of his absence.
If we had a CIA worth anything they'd be spreading the rumor on Weibo that Pudgy's been off'd and that some clique of generals is running the show. And they're planning to whack some other generals...
Weibo, China's version of Twitter, went crazy this week with reports that Jo Myong Rok, a North Korean vice-marshal who died four years ago, had overthrown Kim in a coup and sent his lieutenants to South Korea for negotiations. Talk spread so quickly that the Global Times, one of China's official papers, ran a commentary on Monday titled: "For those who make up rumours of coup in North Korea, is it so funny?"
We at the Burg would sure enjoy it. Pass the popcorn, Barbara...

Air force commander emerges as Nork biggie
Ri Pyong-chol, a commanding officer in the North Korean air force, is emerging as the most powerful figure in the North Korean military. Ri was appointed to the top decision-making National Defense Commission at a regular session of the Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang last Thursday.

"It's the first time a field commander has been appointed a member of the Defense Commission," a government official here said Friday. "We need to watch what role he'll play in the future."

Ri's promotion probably has something to do with North Korean leader Fat Boy Kim Jong-un's special interest in the aviation sector. Out of 40 military-related on-site inspections he undertook this year, 10 involved the air force.

"It seems Suet Face Kim Jong-un wants to drastically increase the North's anti-air capabilities for fear of U.S. airstrikes on the leadership," Chung Sung-jang of the Sejong Institute speculated, especially at a time when U.S. airstrikes against Middle Eastern regimes it dislikes are becoming an annual event.

Pudge's half brother in Gay Paree with popsie
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's half-brother has surfaced in Paris after keeping a low profile since his uncle and former eminence grise Jang Song-taek was executed last year.
Coincidentally, Apple showed off the Watch at Parisian fashion outlets this week...
Kim Jong-nam was spotted on Monday by South Korean tourists who said he was staying at the Le Meridien Etoile with a woman who appears to be in her 30s.
She refers to him as "Daddy"...
One of the tourists said that he saw Kim "four or five days ago with an elegant-looking woman."

When accosted by a South Korean reporter, Kim said, "I don't know much about Kim Jong-un or what's happening in North Korea."

After his uncle was executed last December, Kim went to Malaysia and moved on to Indonesia in May.
Anywhere, anywhere but back home...
Witnesses said Kim appeared relaxed. One South Korean businessman who stayed at the Le Meridien Etoile said he saw Kim Jong-nam walking outside the hotel smoking a cigarette after breakfast. "He appeared to be in good health," the businessman added.
Wait...
But Kim did not appear in the lobby or restaurant of the hotel once he found out that he had been identified.

A room at the hotel costs 380 euros a night. The hotel is close to the commercial district of La Défense and the tourist area of Champs-Élysées and is frequented by many wealthy South Koreans. A large number of South Koreans were staying at the hotel to take part in a business conference.

Kim probably came to Paris to see his son Han-sol, who is studying at Le Havre campus of Sciences Po.

Kim Jong-nam has been persona non grata in North Korea since he was nabbed trying to enter Japan on a false passport and lived in well-funded exile in China and Macau until his uncle and protector fell from grace last year.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan demands apology if Biden uttered ISIL remarks
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has demanded an apology from U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, if his reported comments about Turkey's "mistakes that paved the way for the rise of the jihadists" were true.
Bumbling Joe throws gasoline on the fire...
"If Biden told these words, then he will be history for me. I never uttered such remarks," Erdogan said after the morning prayer for Eid al-Adha -the festival of sacrifice observed by Muslims all over the world- in Istanbul on early Oct. 4.

"President Erdogan told me, he is an old friend, said you were right, we let too many people through, now we are trying to seal the border," Biden had said during a speech on foreign policy at Harvard Kennedy School on Oct. 2, while complaining about the conduct of his country's regional allies that led to the rise of the Islamic State and Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Scariest words in the English language right now: "President Joe Biden"...
"I was Prime Minister at the time. We absolutely didn't provide even the smallest amount of support to any terrorist organization, including the ISIL. Nobody can prove it. Foreign fighters never crossed from Turkey to Syria. There were people coming to Turkey as tourists and went to Syria, but nobody can suggest that they were armed while crossing the border," Erdogan said.

Turkish President also stressed that Ankara's "sensitivity" over the issue continues, as do its measures to prevent the jihadist flow into Syria.

"I see [Biden's remarks] regretfully. I never admitted any mistake nor did we told them that they 'were right' during my visit to the U.S. If Mr. Biden uttered these remarks at Harvard, he should apologize. I'm telling this clearly. And we won't accept slender, indirect explanations," Erdogan added.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Biden's remarks are unacceptaple.

"It is impossible to accept his criticism. All the U.S. authorities and Biden very well know that Turkey, on its own, has hosted millions of refugees for four years. If all the warnings that Turkey made had been taken into consideration, [ISIL] would not be an issue today," Davutoglu told reporters following the prayer for Eid al-Adha in Istanbul on Oct. 4.

The Turkish prime minister also said that the tomb of Suleyman Shah, a sovereign Turkish territory in Syria, was safe. Turkish soldiers have been alert for potential attacks as there have been concerns that ISIL was getting close to the tomb.

"Soldiers are today wishing each other a happy Eid. We are, as a whole nation, together with them, and we will always proudly appreciate their efforts, patience, and determination."

#1  President Joe Biden would be all powerful. Barry Jeremiad could kill 16,000 Kansas with a word.

Joe of Stapho just killed 100,000 Missourians. He freed the slaves. He has a hood pass. He can cure the paralized. Speaks in many tongues, the savoir of Babble. Doesn't have to golf as he scores an 18 every time....with his mind.

Foreward!

#4  I think everyone has thrown a log on this fire. If Turkey was allowing US arms humanitarian aid to Teams Not-Assad via Turkey Way, and those Teams Not-Assad become ISJV, then I can see why Erdogon would get a bit fumed.

Erdy has also been trying to pick a fight with Assad since kickoff. I'd guess a number of what would become ISJV went through the Turkey Turnstile, and may still be so long as their tickets get punched - ISJV beats up the Kurds so the mighty Turk Army can roll into Kurdistan (and key real estate in Syria), for their protection of course. They'll leave as soon as its all done.

Which, even if this batch of Team Not-Assad is on the up-and-up and not a storefront to funnel weapons and training into ISJV, will be years.

Personally, I prefer Biden's Court Jester stylings over Chairface's I'm Too Golfy for this Briefing. Other than the fact that occasionally Biden says something which should remain private and people get killed because of it.

#6  Fcking Erdogan still protects the family that robbed Motorola and Nokia and has World Court Orders against them for that. Until Erdogan makes them pay what they owe he can suck eggs until the sun quits shining... Oh and BTW I and a lot of ex-coworkers from Motorola still feel that way. Erdogan's complicity makes him an armed robber.

Ankara 'won't let Kobani fall'
[ARABNEWS] Kurdish fighters battled Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group fighters Friday near a Syrian Kurdish town along the border with Turkey as Turkish prime minister said his country will prevent the fall of Kobani.

The Kurdish town and its surrounding have been under attack since mid-September, with turbans capturing dozens of nearby Kurdish villages. The assault, which has forced some 160,000 Syrians to flee, has left the Kurdish snuffies scrambling to repel the holy warriors’ advance into the outskirts of Kobani, also known as Ayn Arab.

Another polio case confirmed from Gadap
[DAWN] KARACHI: As the provincial health department again had to defer its polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
campaign in the city’s three districts until after Eid due to insufficient security cover, Sindh on Thursday received the confirmation of another polio case from the National Institute of Health Islamabad (NIH) — an 18-month-old boy — again from Gadap Town, bringing the provincial tally to 18 so far this year, officials said.

The officials in the provincial health department identified the boy as Awais, a son of Lal Badshah, whose samples had been sent to the NIH four weeks ago.

The boy’s Pakhtun family resided in Faqir Goth of Union Council 4 of Gadap Town and originally hailed from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

“The boy is also among those children whose families refused to inoculate them against polio,” said a bigwig in the health department wishing not to be named as he was not authorised to speak to the media on behalf of the ministry.

The authorities had to postpone the nationwide polio campaign in the city’s Korangi, Malir and East districts until after Eid for want of security. The south, west and central districts have already been covered and at present the volunteers have been assigned to cover 14 high-risk union councils of which three fall in Gadap.

Iraq
Three US Citizens Join Kurdish Fight Against ISIS
[ISRAELNATIONALNEWS] Three US citizens are fighting in Syria, the British Daily Mail reports Friday. But unlike most foreign nationals, they are fighting against - not for - jihadists.

One of the Americans has been identified as Jordan Matson (28) from Racine, Wisconsin, a front man for the private Pashmerga army, the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), said Thursday.

Matson is a former US Army soldier now "fighting in the Jazaa area," the front man added - an area riddled by heavy fighting between Islamic State

(ISIS) and Kurdish forces in northeast Syria.

The US has not blacklisted the YPG as a terrorist organization, but it does have close ties to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Turkey, which has been blacklisted.

While the over 100 Americans estimated to be fighting in Syria are mostly fighting for - not against - global jihadists, the US State Department indicated that they may not differentiate between them.

"We have warned, as you know, US citizens to defer all travel to Syria," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki
...a valley girl who woke up one morning and found she was spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of State...
said. "We recommend any US citizens remaining to depart immediately."

"We also, of course, remain concerned about any citizen traveling to take part in military operations," she added.

PM: No Chance For Peace Deal If Israel Sued For War Crimes
Bibi cut his teeth doing negotiations, after he fought in the Yom Kippur War and before he became a politician. Sometimes you just have to make it clear that you can and will walk away.
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian push to try Israeli officials for war crimes at a United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
tribunal would end any chance of reaching a peace deal, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu spoke to Army Radio on Friday, a day after the Paleostinian Authority’s envoy to the United Nations said his government would join the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
if the UN Security Council refuses to set a deadline for Israel to withdraw from all Paleostinian territories.

“We may end up there,” Netanyahu said of the prospect of war crimes charges being brought against Israel at the Hague-based UN tribunal.

“If Abu Mazen attempts it, this will have dire consequences,” he added, using another name for Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
. “He could bring The Hague to do it, bringing us to the destruction of any chance of a sane peace deal.”

On Thursday, Riyad Mansour, the Paleostinian Authority’s UN envoy, said that his government has turned to the Security Council “to force Israel to negotiate in good faith the end of the occupation within a time frame.”

The Paleostinian Authority hopes the council will adopt a draft resolution setting November 2016 as the deadline for an Israeli pullout from the West Bank, east Jerusalem and Gazoo.

“But if this additional door of peace is closed before us, then we will not only join the ICC to seek accountability,” Mansour said. “We will join other treaties and agencies” to build evidence “that we exist as a nation, we exist as a state, although the land of our state is under occupation.”

Israel On High Alert As Yom Kippur, Eid Coincide
[Ynet] From north to south, Israeli security forces have taken lengthy measures to make sure bothJewish and Moslem holidays pass without violence; weeks of dialogue between Jews and Moslems, massive deployment to sensitive areas, hospitals and rescue personnel stand ready.

A general curfew was to be imposed on the West Bank at midnight Friday, to be lifted 24 hours later, after Yom Kippur - the holiest day of the Jewish calendar which this year coincides with the Moslem festival of Eid al-Adha. The move is accordance with a decision by Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon and the assessment of the IDF.

During the curfew, the passage into Israel is allowed only for unusual medical and humanitarian cases, subject to approval of the Civil Administration in the Paleostinian territories. In the other zones and border areas, the security level of preparedness was raised.

Sweden to Recognize Palestinian State
[NY Times] Sweden’s new center-left government has decided to recognize the state of Paleostine, the new prime minister, Stefan Lofven, said during his inaugural address to Parliament on Friday. Sweden will be the first major state of the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
to recognize Paleostine, although some East European countries did so during the Cold War, before they joined the Union.

Turkish intervention in Syria would be 'aggression': Damascus
[Al Ahram] The Syrian government said Friday any Turkish military intervention on its soil would be considered an act of aggression, and urged the UN Security Council to prevent any such action by Ankara.

A day after Turkey's parliament authorised military action against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group in Syria and Iraq, the foreign ministry said the "declared policy of the Turkish government represents a real aggression against a member state of the United Nations."
...boodling on the grand scale...

It is a "flagrant violation of the United Nations charter, which stipulates respect for the national illusory sovereignty of states and non-interference in their domestic affairs," the statement added.

"The international community and, in particular, the Security Council, should act to put an end to the adventures of the Turkish leadership, which represents a threat to world security and peace."

IS fighters are pressing to capture the Kurdish town of Kobane, on Syria's border with Turkey, and at least 186,000 people from there and surrounding villages have already fled across the frontier.

While Thursday's measure did not spell out what action Turkey will take against the IS organization, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said after the vote "we will do whatever we can so that Kobane does not fall."
