Hundreds protest against Israel, war in Gaza inside New York’s Museum of Modern Art
2024-02-12
[IsraelTimes] Hundreds of pro-Paleostinian protesters held a demonstration inside New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) on Saturday afternoon, forcing the museum to close its doors several hours early, at around 4 p.m., arts and culture website Hyperallergic reports.

Close to 800 protesters filled the museum’s atrium in protest of alleged investments into Israel’s military weapons by the museum’s trustees.

The protesters distributed more than 1,000 imitation MoMA pamphlets criticizing trustees Leon Black, Larry Fink, Paula Crown, Marie-Josée Kravis and Ronald S. Lauder, the report states, and hung a banner over the lobby that read "MoMA Trustees Fund Genocide, Apartheid, and Settler Colonialism."

In videos posted to social media, hundreds of people chant "Free Free Paleostine" as they stand under various signs and banners reading "Ceasefire now," "Long live Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
" and "From the river to the sea," which is a shortened version of the popular anti-Israel chant "From the river to the sea, Paleostine will be free."

After around 15 minutes, the museum’s security guards began turning people away at the doors and allowed people inside the building to exit, the report says.

A similar protest took place at the MoMA in May 2021, amid Operation Guardian of the Walls
ArtNews adds:
Journalist Afeef Nassouli, a producer for the Wall Street Journal, spoke to a woman named Ariel, who identified themselves as a member of the grassroots political group ACT UP
... old-fashioned Black Bloc...
New York—originally formed in response to the AIDS crisis— about how she personally led an affinity group of anti-Zionist Jews, artists, and ACT UP members to the protest at MoMA “because we are all here to take a stand against genocide.”

According to an Instagram post by Alexa Blair Wilkinson, a photojournalist and graphic designer who attended the protest, no arrests were made and the sit-in dispersed around 6pm.

The protest at MoMA was organized by the Writers Against the War on Gaza
... boring cause junkies
and the New York chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement.
...one of a number of virulently anti-Israel protest groups sponsored by the Westchester People’s Action Coalition — they do intersectional stuff when not overtly acting against Israel ...
A statement read out loud by protestors said “This action builds on the work of Strike MoMA, Gulf Labor, Art Workers Coalition, and more broadly, on resistance movements including the undying fight for Black Liberation, prison abolition, and Indigenous sovereignty.”
See? Cause junkies secretly hoping their fierce devotion to everything coming down the pike will somehow improve their mating prospects.
Estimates of the crowd of protestors at the Museum of Modern Art ranged from “more than 500” to “more than 800” people.
So at least 200. Got it.
Earlier on Saturday, Within Our Lifetime, a grassroots Palestinian-led community organization, held a protest at the Brooklyn Museum.

Photographer Stephanie Keith posted on Instagram that “NYPD made about 10 arrests while the protest was in front of the Museum including @protestnsurvive who is a credentialed member of New York City media.”

MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum did not respond to ARTnews‘ requests for comment. Writers Against The War on Gaza said in an email statement, “WAWOG does not give comment to publications owned by Penske Media.”

In NY, Jewish Columbia student alleges harassment by violent anti-Israel protesters

[IsraelTimes] Noah Lederman says a toxic atmosphere on campus led to his being pinned against a wall as he fled a demonstration co-organized and endorsed by student organizations.

The incident occurred late afternoon on February 2 after more than 500 pro-Paleostinian demonstrators turned out for the "All Out for Paleostine" protest.

The protest was organized by Within Our Lifetime. Columbia University Apartheid Divest co-organized the demonstration, which was endorsed by over 80 campus organizations.

Lederman decided to attend a small counter-protest in support of Israel after a friend asked him to accompany her.

Lederman said he decided to leave when the chanting and banner-waving pro-Paleostinian demonstrators started marching south down Broadway. He ducked into Book Culture bookstore on 115th Street, where he met up with his roommate. The two then started walking north, thinking it would be the safest route to their dorm.

When they got to 120th Street, it looked like a group of protesters were marching toward them. Lederman, wearing his Israeli flag T-shirt and a kippah, said he kept his head down as he tried to walk briskly past the group.

It was then that a man in a keffiyeh, a traditional men’s headscarf that has become a symbol of Paleostinian nationalism, spotted Lederman’s shirt and allegedly ordered the other protesters to fan out. Before Lederman understood what was happening, he said, he felt himself being shoved against the wall, unable to move.

He finally broke free and ran. And as he ran, Lederman said, the man yelled, "Keep f—ing running."

Lederman reported the incident to the NYPD and the University Department of Public Safety. According to Columbia, it’s the responsibility of the NYPD to handle the investigation since the alleged incident happened outside the campus gates.

Lederman said he’s less concerned with the man’s motives than he is with the overall climate that allowed the incident to unfold, saying it’s indicative of a general toxic atmosphere that has engulfed the Columbia campus since October 7.

"Columbia allowed things to progress... tolerance for violence begets violence," he said. "The climate on campus has made it possible for demonstrators on campus to feel they are untouchable. I want accountability from the university."

Columbia is one of several schools being investigated by the US Department of Education’s (DOE) Office of Civil Rights for allowing alleged antisemitic harassment to take place on school grounds and by registered student groups. An investigation means the DOE has identified a credible allegation that civil rights law has been violated.

Under Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, colleges and universities receiving federal money must protect students from discrimination based on race, color or national origin. This includes Jews, Moslems and other ethnic or religious groups with "shared ancestry." The university stands to lose federal funding if a civil rights violation is found.

#2  ^ Sure, why not! The decline of Detroit inspired an art form known as Ruins Pr0n. It is an actual thing you can google. Thanks to the Paleos, we can look forward to lots of poignant and shallow photojournalism.

As images go, it is hard to beat the iconic symbolism of the freshly-unwrapped teddy bear lying pristine in the middle of a dusty street with bombed out buildings in the background, no doubt hastily abandoned by an innocent young child.
