Starbucks closing 16 stores in L.A, other cities due to employee safety concerns

Followed by Seattle, then Portland, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
More from the New York Post:
Starbucks to close 16 US stores because of crime, rampant drug use

[NYPOST] Starbucks is shuttering 16 store locations nationwide after store managers reported a surge in drug use among customers and outsiders as well as an increase in crime in certain areas.

Six Starbucks locations will be closed in the company’s hometown of Seattle and six more will be shuttered in the Los Angeles metro area.

Two Starbucks restaurants will cease operating in Portland, Ore., while one store each will close in Philadelphia and Washington, DC, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Store managers have complained to company executives that employees have not felt safe amid a surge of assaults, thefts and drug use in and around each location.

The company responded by giving store managers discretion to deny free access to the store’s bathrooms, which are open to the public as per corporate policy, according to the Seattle Times.

Last month, Starbucks interim CEO Howard Schultz said the company was rethinking its "open bathroom" policy due to mounting concerns about public safety.

#14  TW Los Angeles minimum hourly wage is $ 16 add workers compensation and taxes and other costs it’s probably going to be around 20\25 dollars for hour. Now….. the reality is in Los Ángeles fast foods outlets are paying already way above minimum in order to keep employees, some offering $24 for hour to start.
In and out for example…

#13  According to the internet:

Average Salaries at Starbucks

Barista
$13.83 per hour

Food Service Worker
$11.50 per hour
Baker
$19.74 per hour
Cafe Assistant
$14.07 per hour

Shift Manager
$16.80 per hour
Supervisor
$16.83 per hour
Shift Leader
$16.41 per hour

Though perhaps the pay is higher in California.

#12  Starbucks are mostly empty and with teenagers at $20 an hour roughly. There’s no money to be made. The drugs in the bathroom, the homeless, the lack of police services, are just an excuse to breach or break a lease without penalties.

#10  I didn't see San Francisco in the list of cities where stores will be closed. Makes me wonder if maybe all the Starbucks stores in San Francisco have already been closed.

#9  ^ Going to the liquor store in Cleveland was like that when I was in college in the late 1970s. There was one bottle of each product behind glass, with a tag that had the stock number and unit price. You wrote stock number, price and quantity on a little form with a golf pencil and took it to the cashier, who sent a runner for your booze.

I discovered after a while I could write the stock number and what I wanted to pay (within the bounds of credibility) and get the desired result every time.

#8  Back in the day, I visited an inner city Detroit package store to buy liquor underage. The employees were behind bullet-proof glass and the transaction was made through a teller trap door rig that used to be common at bank windows. Several years later I had to make a similar but legal transaction through a like contraption at a Churches Fried Chicken. That gave me a strong indication that my hunger had lured me to a very wrong neighborhood. I see a future SF Starbucks where people are getting their Grande Macchiato through the same bulletproof trapdoor. Hipster ambiance at its best.

#6  ...I'm wondering how many of these stores also just happened to be among the ones that were trying to unionize.

Are they talking about street thugs robbing their Karen/Darens Caffeine Junkies leaving the stores, or the Karen's that pitch fits over thing less than 1000% perfect to them and throwing hissy fit tantrums in the store

Or maybe the fact the Coffee Social-Political WOKE agenda ticked off a lot of customers and caused a sizeable revenue loss?

Or maybe they are still closing some of the 400+ stores that they already announced they planned to even back in June 2020?

#2  I'm proud to say I've never stepped foot inside of a fucking pretentious burnt coffee shop like Starbucks. I bet I'd get better flavored coffee running hot water over my ass cheeks covered with bark from a maple tree.

#1  The unchecked anarchy of the urban centers could eventually paralyze the nation. Perhaps this is what our new masters have intended.

If we could only get the trucks and trains to stop running, we could achieve real chaos.
