Another ‘austere religious scholar' makes headlines as he raises money for land along the US border a Scottish isle somewhere else for a Sharia domain, complete with jihad training camps
|
[AmericanThinker] While journalists at The Washington Post might call Sheikh Yasser al-Habib an “austere religious scholar” (the descriptor so affectionately used to eulogize Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi after he detonated himself and his own children a tunnel to evade capture by U.S. forces), others night label the Muslim cleric a terrorist, or even just a devout Islamist, while a report at the Daily Mail describes al-Habib
… Sheikh Yasser al-Habib, 45, is the soft-spoken yet fiery heretical Shiite preacher who keeps collecting lotsa money from his followers for a variety of projects, including a separate island homeland for his followers to establish a base for living and training, where they can show those other so-called Moslems how to do it right. As part of their outreach they have Al-Muhassin mosque and a £2 million compound – also known as the Minor Land of Fadak — in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire, the Fadak satellite TV station, a scattering of military training camps, and a former charity known as the Mahdi Servants Union (formerly the Khoddam Al-Mahdi Organisation). Sometimes even busy hands are the Devil’s playground… as a “vile Muslim extremist”; after the massacres in the kibbutzim on October 7th, al-Habib reportedly said he and his followers were “buoyed” by the slaughter, and rhetorically asked, “Who among us does not enjoy retaliation of the Zionist enemy?”
A traditional Moslem outlook in certain circles, but then the sheikh was traditionally educated, back before he developed his own innovative ideas… Anyway, al-Habib has a substantial following, complete with his own “army” of jihadis, and he’s apparently eyeing small islands across the West—some even along the U.S. border—for purchase, in order to establish Sharia law domains, and he’s just about succeeded in buying a small uninhabited Scottish island called Torsa. As you can expect, the Western governments are radio silent on al-Habib’s ambitions.
Here are the details, from the Daily Mail:
Vile Muslim extremist with his own ‘ARMY’ plans to create an Islamic homeland under Sharia law on island near US border - and reveals why he saw Canada as a good ‘base’
A firebrand Muslim clerk eyed up an island on the border of the United States and Canada to purchase and turn into an Islamic state.
In a video to his followers, Sheikh Yasser al-Habib, 45, an extremist scholar who already runs military-style training camps, revealed he is in advanced talks to buy an island off the west coast of Scotland.
His group plans to build its own school, hospital and mosque on the island, where it intends to practice sharia law.
Al-Habib - who claimed asylum in Britain 20 years ago after fleeing his native Kuwait - told his followers during their property search they considered an ‘island located on the border between the United States and Canada.’
Sarah Zaaimi, a deputy director for communications at the American think tank Atlantic Council, who has researched al-Habib, said: ‘They will have their own army, their own justice system, they will manage their own schools and hospitals, and people from around the world will be able to migrate to this homeland.
Encouraging supporters to donate, al-Habib said Torsa will become an Islamic ‘homeland’ which they will create to prepare for the coming of their messiah, known as Mahdi.
Al-Habib has already raised more than $3 million of their $3.5 million goal to purchase the land.
Owner of tiny Scottish island makes statement on firebrand Muslim cleric ownership bid

[Scotsman] Sheikh Yasser al-Habib wants to build a school, hospital and mosque on the island, it has been claimed.

holy man said the location would not be sold to anyone unsuitable for the local community, reports have claimed.
The statement came after it was revealed Sheikh Yasser al-Habib, 45, and his supporters had been in advanced talks to buy Torsa, off the west coast of Scotland. The one-mile long island, which has not been inhabited for 85 years, sits in the Slate Isles and was marketed last year by Savills for £1.5 million.
The scholar wants to build a school, hospital and mosque on the island, where he intends to practise sharia law, it has been claimed. Mr al-Habib has raised more than £3m for the project and is said to be in advanced talks to buy the island. But the sale is apparently being refused by the owner of Torsa, according to one newspaper.
It is understood the owner has not agreed to the sale and the island is reportedly unlikely to be sold to any party who is a bad fit with the local community.
The newspaper referred to reports on the holy man’s Fadak TV, which MPs have called to be shut down given its attacks on people of the Sunni faith.
Mr al-Habib is said to have claimed in one video that he will negotiate with the UK government to secure visas to allow Moslems "from all over the world" to live in their new "homeland".
In one video, he said: "If you want to live free under the banner of the imam [Shia leader], in a special homeland where you feel everything in it reminds you of the awaited mahdi, everything is the Shia homeland ... support this project."
Mr al-Habib, who is originally from Kuwait but was granted asylum in Britannia 20 years ago, is claimed to have said on Fadak TV that Torsa, which comes with two little adjoining islets and is 20 miles south of Oban, is an "irreplaceable opportunity".
The holy man, who spent nearly three months in jail in Kuwait for insulting the Sunni faith, leads the Mahdi [Messiah] Servants Union (MSU).
Savills, which is managing the sale, said the island continues to attract interest from all around the world. Torsa has one farmhouse and a ruined castle and is accessible only by private boat from Luing — itself reached via a ferry from the island of Seil. Its name is of Norse origin and roughly translates as "Thor's Island".
Money, swords and embassy attacks: Inside the UK-based Shia group under Ofcom investigation
04 May, 2023
[NewArab] Yasser Al-Habib's group, the Mahdi Servants Union, has attacked three embassies and had its ‘blasphemous’ film The Lady of Heaven pulled from cinemas. The New Arab reveals that they’re now being investigated by Ofcom for inciting crime and disorder.
Located on the outskirts of Buckinghamshire, Fulmer is your typically affluent English village. Locals enjoy privacy behind manicured grounds and the only destinations nearby are the pub and Pinewood film studios a mile or so away.
Nor is Fulmer a place people snoop around or gossip. But if it was, they may have noticed an unusual neighbour living among them for the past decade. Draped in black cloth and a white turban wrapped around his head, Fulmer is also home to Kuwaiti Shia holy man Yasser al-Habib and his radical organization, the Mahdi Servants Union (MSU, Ittihad Khoddam al-Mahdi in Arabic).
Beyond the gates of a £2 million compound — also known as the Minor Land of Fadak - Yasser al-Habib directs MSU’s global operations and broadcasts its dedicated channel Fadak TV. Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe headed for second base. He almost made it. Then Sheila slapped him....
men in faux-military uniforms parade around the compound’s courtyard clutching swords.
Rewind to June 2022 and UK news report crowds of mostly Sunni Moslems protesting outside a screening of a film. The film in question, The Lady of Heaven, is said to depict the Prophet Muhammad — generally forbidden in Islam - and defame his lover companions, sparking sectarian fears and raising communal tension.
Under pressure, Cineworld - the cinema chain responsible - pulls the film from its schedule. But instead of burying the issue, the incident quickly escalates into a media frenzy.
Crying ’culture war’, the UK’s free speech brigade whirred into action: they blamed the protesters for opposing ’liberal British values’ and jumped to the defence of Abdul-Malik Shlibak, one of The Lady of Heaven’s executive producers and the public face of the film. Shlibak, an articulate, and seemingly well-mannered millennial, was then interviewed by the BBC and GB News about the film’s release and he justified its content on free speech grounds.
On each occasion, however, little mention was given to Abdul-Malik Shlibak’s affiliation with the Mahdi Servants Union, Sheikh Yasser al-Habib’s role as The Lady of Heaven’s screenwriter or the MSU’s history of violent mostly peaceful rhetoric and paramilitary posturing.
The New Arab (TNA) visited the MSU compound in Fulmer on April 4 but was told interviews were not possible without prior authorisation. MSU officials were not available to comment on the content of this investigation by the time of publication.
On 4 August 2022, just over a month after Shlibak’s final media appearance for The Lady of Heaven, the Mahdi Servants Union stormed the Azerbaijani Embassy in London. And despite links tying the two events together, media coverage was limited and none of the English-language news outlets that interviewed Shlibak chose to cover the attack.
MEDIA-MILITARISM COMPLEX
The Mahdi Servants Union is not as moderate or mainstream as their TV appearances suggest. Its satellite channel, Fadak TV — run by Abdul-Malik Shlibak — is currently under investigation by the UK's communications regulator (Ofcom) for "incitement of crime and disorder", The New Arab can reveal based on leaked documents.
The attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in London was not their first rodeo either. Followers of the MSU have attacked two other embassies in the past: the Iranian Embassy

Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual haj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Formerly dictatorial and steeped in Olde Tyme Religion, deferring to Salafist holy men on all issues, it has now done a 180 and is making a serious effort to modernize, so as not to be left in the sand by its Gulf Arab neighbors. Yet, despite countless run-ins with the British authorities, the MSU has never faced any major consequences.
The New Arab spoke with Hamid Dhaif-Allah al-Tahir, former CEO of Fadak TV, who believes that "the Charity Commission and Scotland Yard have turned a blind eye to the MSU. They [the Mahdi Servants Union] have breached their red lines but somehow aren’t considered a national security threat."
THE CLERICAL ERROR
MSU’s charismatic leader Yasser al-Habib is no stranger to controversy or ’blasphemy

Al-Habib was meant to serve a year in prison but, according to a report by Amnesty International, was accidentally released after a few months as part of a mass pardon by the country’s Emir to celebrate Kuwait’s national day.
