In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. Sources said that residents found the body of the leader of the al-Qaeda organization, "Abu Musab al-Jaadani", killed in Wadi Omran area, which is under the control of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia backed by the UAE.
The sources indicated that traces of gunshot wounds were seen on the body of the leader, al-Jaadani, suggesting that he might be subjected to an unknown liquidation a few days ago. "Yeah, he's starting to get really ripe"
