#1 Looks like the Russians are aligned with the US State Department, the Pentagon and Congress, all of whom officially denounced Ukraine’s “neo-Nazi Azov Battallion” between June 2015 and late 2021.

June 2015: June 15, 2015, Representative John Conyers of Michigan and dozens of other Congressmen seek to amend the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2016 by inserting this language: “None of the funds made available by this Act may be used to provide arms, training, or other assistance to the Azov Battalion.”

Conyers explains: “This amendment that I propose this evening limits arms, training, and other assistance to the neo-Nazi Ukrainian militia, the Azov Battalion…I urge the support of my amendment and to make it US law that we will not equip this dangerous neo-Nazi militia.”

Similar anti-Azov language was included in the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2018.

Both Jamie Raskin and Democrat Ro Khanna supported it. Khanna declared, “I am very pleased that the recently passed omnibus prevents the US from providing arms and training assistance to the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion fighting in Ukraine. White supremacy and neo-Nazism are unacceptable and have no place in our world.”

Jamie Raskin and other Congressmen submitted a letter to Secretary Mike Pompeo October 16, 2019, seeking to have the Azov Battalion declared a Foreign Terrorist Organization, or FTO. “There are numerous examples of foreign white nationalist groups that fit these conditions…. The American people deserve an explanation as to why these groups are not included on the Foreign Terrorist organization (FTO) list.

For example, the Azov Battalion is a well-known ultranationalist militia organization in Ukraine that openly welcomes neo-Nazis into its ranks. The group is so well-known, in fact, that the 115th Congress of the United States stated in its 2018 omnibus spending bill that ‘none of the funds made available by this act may be used to provide arms, training or other assistance to the Azov Battalion.’”

In 2021, these same congressmen voted in favor of the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2022 which extended the prohibitions regarding Azov.

Replacement is generally held to be 2.1. Looking at the trends, I would not be surprised to end up mourning the disappearance of Ukraine and the retreat of Russia from world affairs, followed a few years later by China ditto. Very different
than the trends in India, where the reported fertility rate is 2.2.
