fighters.

The statement released by MoD reads that a large swathe has also been recaptured as a result of operations.

As per the statement, 375 Taliban fighters were killed and 193 more maimed as a result of land and aerial operations.

The operations were conducted in the provinces of Nuristan, Pashtun-infested Logar, Kandahar, Oruzgan, Herat

In Afghan National Defense and Security Forces’ latest Arclight airstrike

s, 20 Taliban were killed and 12 more maimed in the historic provincial capital-Lashkargah- of Helmand province, reads MoD’s statement.

The Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid denied the group’s fighters being killed in Helmand province and claimed Afghan government forces’ airstrikes have targeted civilian people.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces recently recaptured the Nijrab district of Kapisa province backed by the Taliban.

Lashkargah city of Helmand province has always been a battlefield between the ANDSF and the Taliban. The latter has entered the city and have reportedly attacked the provincial office and national police headquarter.

The Afghan government has announced to conduct wide operations to clear the city from the bully boyz and have advised the residents to evict areas where Taliban are settled.

#2 I don't doubt it. Tet was horrendously expensive for both the NVA and the VC. They were hoping to trigger a general collapse in the South Vietnamese government. While that collapse did not materialize, a different type of collapse - in the morale of America's elites - did. That avalanche of defeatism got to the point that those elites cut South Vietnam off from aid even while the Communist bloc ramped up assistance to North Vietnam. They wanted to be sure South Vietnam was erased from the map. Meanwhile, if the US had left South Korea 3 years after the armistice, it's almost a given that the Kims would rule over a unified Korea today.

#4 The donkey back BDA reports couldn't have been collated in 24 hrs.

You may be thinking of US-spec BDA's conducted at leisure, with the knowledge that the cavalry (i.e. strike units of the USAF and USN) stand ready over the horizon to bomb and strafe the crap out of any major Taliban troop concentrations. In Afghanistan, they're dealing with attacks on every major city. They don't have time for multi-day forensic analyses.

#5 Combine a satellite phone with a laptop, and the reports can be received as fast as they’re typed up, right? Given that it’s reported that the provincial capitols are all that hold out against the rampaging Talibs, how likely is it that reports are being transported via donkey?

#6 What TW says was the solution actually. They use a Raytheon built interconnect digital radio system actually. And the reports are not actually taken by donkeys. That was before 2002, even then they had runners with dirt bikes, for areas without comms coverage. Then there was this radio-in-a-box setup which I think several thousand were distributed. Later the ACU came along.

The devil is in the cooking of numbers by the ANSDF itself, and the Afghan MoD officials, those oversmart sunnis who would add thousands of ghost solders, officers, equipment and buildings to their records just to skim from the budget. While a goddamn war was going on.

#7 That’s the part that scares me, Dron. Though it’s exciting that they’ve surpassed my technological know-how, such as it is.

I guess they’re back to relying on the Mujahideen warlords again. Pray God the grand old men are up to the task.
