Germany: Prosecutors suspect 'Islamist' motive in Berlin known wolf highway crashes
Sudden Jihad Syndrome attack by a nutter. Why they didn’t send him back is beyond me.
[DW] Six people were maimed, three of them severely, in the incident. Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the crashes while prosecutors have alleged the incident was an Islamist-motivated attack.

A 30-year-old man in Berlin is being investigated for attempted murder after a series of crashes led to a key stretch of the city's highway being closed off.

Six people were maimed, three of them seriously, in the incident on Tuesday night, the Berlin fire department confirmed on Twitter.

The crashes were an "Islamist-motivated attack,'' a front man for the public prosecutor in the German capital said. He added, however, that the suspect also appeared to have mental health problems.

At 6.30 p.m. local time (1630 GMT), the man, who police say hails from Iraq, allegedly drove into numerous vehicles along the A100 that led to the Autobahn, one of the busiest motorway stretches in Berlin, being closed in both directions for several hours. The suspect apparently targeted cycle of violences in particular, prosecutors said.

German media reported that in the aftermath of the crashes, the man stopped on the highway and put a box on the roof of his vehicle claiming it had explosives inside.

Specialists opened the box but only found tools inside. The man was subsequently arrested and will appear before a magistrates' court on Wednesday.

TRAFFIC CHAOS
The price of hosting uncontrolled jihadis is high...
Authorities closed off sections of the highway on Tuesday evening, leading to long traffic jams. Some 300 people were stuck on the highway for hours and were getting support from the German Red Thingy.

The Berlin Traffic Information Center tweeted Wednesday that lanes in the direction of the district of Wedding were now fully operational, but certain sections of the highway heading towards Neukölln district remain closed due to a police investigation.
The suspect was identified by local media only as Samrad D.

He was driving a black Opel Astra, which he stopped on the road after the third crash and put an old ammunition box on the roof, claiming it had explosives inside, officials said.

Multiple media outlet reported that he shouted "holy shit! Allahu akbar!" — "God is great!" — as he got out of his car. The Bild daily reported that he also yelled: "Nobody gets closer, or you will all die."

The man then rolled out a prayer carpet and started praying, the daily Tagesspiegel reported.

An Arabic-speaking cop approached the suspect, who is known to Berlin police, and talked to him before detaining him, according to the outlet.

The German DPA news agency reported that he allegedly made references to his plans on Facebook before the attack, posting images of the car, as well as religious writings.

The suspect was born in Baghdad in 1990 and lived in a refugee home in Berlin. In 2018, he was detained for injuring people and taken to a mental institution for a short period, Tagesspiegel reported.
Courtesy of Skidmark, the Daily Mail has the usual photos and video, and adds:
A suspected Islamist terrorist who injured six people by crashing into bikers in Berlin posted an image of himself online with the car used in the attack just hours earlier.

Sarmad A, 30, uploaded the image to Facebook on Tuesday alongside a message in which he spoke about Paleostine, wrote 'Allahu Akbar' - God is great - in Arabic, and used the word for 'martyr'.

Two hours later the same car was used to crash into three bikers along the A100 motorway in Berlin, leaving two seriously hurt and a third at death's door.

Prosecutors say he had a kitchen knife with him as he carried out the motorway rampage.

Sarmad is thought to be a refugee who is living at a shelter in Berlin and was known to police due to past turban behaviour and mental health issues.

In one incident he attacked officers before unrolling a prayer mat in echoes of Tuesday night's crashes.

In 2018 he was kicked out of a home where he was staying and charged with assault, and ended up in a mental health facility. He was released a short time later.

Police believe Sarmad, who was born in Baghdad in 1990, may have been radicalised in the refugee shelter by a known turban with ISIS sympathies.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
they say there is no evidence that Sarmad himself was a member of a terrorist organization.

It is not known when Sarmad came to Germany, but he appears to have been in Finland until at least 2016.

After arriving in Germany he spent some time in refugee accommodation, before moving into an apartment in the city in 2019.

Police are thought to have been called to that apartment two weeks ago, though the reason for the call is not clear.
