[Al Jazeera] |Ottoman Turkish authorities have put 11 human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of
freedom at the convenience of the state...
activists on trial, including the chairman of
Amnesia Amnesty International in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....

Those facing charges at Istanbul's Caglayan courthouse on Wednesday were enjugged

in separate police raids in June and July and include one Swede and a German national.
Idil Eser, director of
Amnesia Amnesty International Turkey, is also among those on trial.
Accusations include supporting groups that Turkey has proscribed as "terrorist" organizations, such as the Gulen movement, and Kurdish separatist factions.
A court in Istanbul on Wednesday said that German activist Peter Steudtner and 11 other human rights activists should be released on Wednesday after the Turkish public prosecutor requested an end to the pre-trial detention of the group.
The Turkish government has accused the group of "aiding armed terrorist organizations" through civil society actions in Turkey. The government has also accused the activists of being members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), far-left DHKP-C and the Gulen movement.
| It sounds like this is a for-the-duration-of-the-trial thingy, rather than sending them home for good.|
