#1 Great article. Very well written and argued. The winning strategy against jihad is to arm the people. When the people can defend their own homes and cities, no force of jihad or enslavement can crush their spirit. I hope that is what Pakistan's strategy for the tribal belt has become.

#2 In Pakistan, as indeed elsewhere, sending in the army is the option of last resort. We had tried this option in Swat and it hadn't worked.

This is not the first truce, I doubt it will be the last. I don't buy this crap about it being the right thing to do, they just gave up on the citizens who didn't want the militants there and now no more school for girls and the militants run the Islamic courts. Some victory!
