Baitullah Mehsud warns army of war if âsituationâ doesnât improve
|
Baitullah Mehsud, the militant leader who signed a âpeace dealâ with the government early this year, has warned the military of a âbloody warâ if the âhumiliating behaviourâ of security forces towards his comrades did not stop immediately.
"Arrr! Yer gonna get it! We got our dignutty, you know!" | The militant telephoned media offices in Peshawar on Wednesday to express his displeasure over the Peshawar corps commanderâs âcold shoulderâ to his complaints, saying he would soon announce his course of action if the situation did not improve. âI will fight such a war against the government that it canât fathom,â Baitullah said via satellite phone from an undisclosed location. The warning came when he was asked what he would do if the government did not respond positively to his concerns. âWe will teach the government the real meaning of extremism and terrorism that it uses against us,â Baitullah added.
"Hrraaaarrr! Youse guyz know how ferocious we are!" | This was the first contact between the militant and media since the peace deal on February 7, 2004, in South Waziristan Agencyâs Sararogha area. The situation in Mehsud areas stabilised after the Sararogha deal and the military then concentrated on North Waziristan Agency, where the army believes about 100 terrorists still hide. Baitullah was a member of the Abdullah Mehsud-led militant outfit, but Abdullah opted to stay away from the peace deal after the government declined to offer him amnesty following the kidnapping of Chinese engineers in October 2004.
He was eventually potted and most everyone's forgotten about him by now... | Baitullahâs anger towards the government was apparently sparked by the âinsulting behaviourâ of security forces. He said, âThere is no difference between a corps commander and a soldier. The corps commander says we will be treated with respect while the soldiers treat us like slaves.â Baitullah said security personnel had âinsultedâ him and his comrades âat checkpointsâ. âThe solders think that we have surrendered to the government under the Sararogha deal, which is not the case. We are proud and free tribesmen. We fought the British for freedom,â he added.
"I have the death penalty on 12 worlds!" |
