#3 India was a vast empire at one time. The riches looted mainly with British occupation. Even their history destroyed.Currently history is being reclaimed actively. Next year with the worlds largest human population. So vast a country and so many different peoples. Issues even today with China but China has very large presence in India. India could and would be the logical choice to seek help. I believe they would even trust India more than any other nation. India as I recall when a great empire encompassed entire region of southern Asia including Afghanistan(so a shared ancient culture). Colonialism is a thing shared with most nations for this part of the world.

#4 India could and would be the logical choice to seek help.

This isn't because of the old civilizational connect, Dale, so much as about enemy of my enemy and cheap food grains. At one time all Afghanistan was buddhist. But islamic calvinball has reduced all cultural ties to simple strategic relations. That and economics.

They see the Indian government as appeasers because it is. The Indian government currently appeases 200 million moslems so that they don't riot in the streets. The asian Umma has got these socialist democracies deeply infiltrated and invested in the 'we are all brothers' role play this way. In reality, the asian Sunnis all defer to what Islamabad decrees, directly or indirectly. The Taliban have just denounced that control, they think they have their own nation now.

The Taliban have high ambitions, having seen the opulence of the Saudis, Qataris... they were told they're sitting on a gold mine and they wanna be another Emirate. For this they need the influence of Islamabad in the region cut down to size. Deeper than this, there runs a cultural, sub-racist kind of rivalry with the Punjabis running Pakistan and calling themselves Khan. There's a murderous hatred for uppity Punjabis who they see as weak and cowardly sell outs while the Punjabis see them as no better than really tough guard dogs.

India has helped out Afghanistan only on humanitarian terms it would seem, but often it was to project as a saviour of Moslems in Asia, to win favor with the OIC countries and back home. These gestures were ultimately rewarded with zilch, Pakistain terming them insincere and thankless asian moslems towing the line. And all the money spent on afganistan was wasted anyway. But the pashtun prides himself on never forgetting a favour just as he doesn't forget an insult.

If India does help the taliban at any time, it should be in return for their mercenary services against Pakistain. And while Washington might not see it as a good thing, it is. I think the Taliban will try and play to the sentiments of the hindu leadership in Delhi and give them stuff like... 'oh! Looky here, we're restoring this 3rd century temple!' and 'Indian biradars! We welcome your investment! Namaste!' ... anything for the pols in India to sell to their own voters as 'look! We have made the talibans build a temple. Cheer for us, everyone!'

I don't know if I'm making sense.

#5 Truth is, the Taliban have very basic needs right now. And they've just been shown that they continue to live only because America allows it. That, is a quantity that can be used, to get them to do stuff.

#6 The people in the region referred to as Afghanistan Taliban have very basic needs right now.

Those needs were met and exceeded for twenty years. Instead of defending what they had, they decided to sit on the sidelines. Actions and inaction have consequences.

#7 No and fuck off. You had 20 years to get your shit together and failed.

#8 /\ Apparently they have not been able to "get it together" for a thousand years or more. Perfect environment for a "endless wars" MIC quagmire.

Or am I missing something ?

#9 Zawahiri was allegedly killed at Sirajuddin Haqqani's home in Kabul... A peaceful environment is not what he seeks.

And we may have our answer on who ratted out Zawahiri...Haqqani is reaching out to India days after the hit. This would indicate the ISI was responsible for Zawahiri's demise.

#10 In addition to his shi* disturbing duties, he was the TB banker. The USG needed a new AFG banker. Keep an eye on USD soon to be headed to AFG.

Afghanistan is little more than a hole in the map where a country should be.

#12 It's not "tragic dirt." It's the people walking around on it.

#13 ^ If only they could drop that loser culture and embrace modernity.

Hint: they can't/won't. Eat dirt bitches

#14 Tennessee is right at #9.

In fact Haqqani reached out that afternoon itself. This interview was given much later. Can't say more. Suffice to say, the rift with Pakistain just deepened.

#15 ^ #4 well put. It is indeed difficult to review the many facets of India. Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist. Then in each area of India so many different peoples, music, dance, clothing, collar of skin and so on. I hope they can keep it together and offer others stability. Hard fought independence by individuals like Bhagat Singh muted by Gandhi prevailed with independence achieved.

That's the only way I could imagine it making any sense at all.
