#1 The fact the Russians haven't captured Severodonetsk despite having thrown the bulk of their army at it speaks volumes to their abilities.

Now they could very well cut it off with their attack from the south and turn it into a Ukrainian Stalingrad, but the fact that thrust has so far been blunted again speaks well of their abilities.

We'll see if the Russians have more men than Ukrainian bullets to accomplish this.

#2 ^^They'll push their Luhansk and Donetsk conscripts in first to deplete the Ukrainian bullets, Darth.

That's what the Bear has done in all the major offensives against entrenched UA positions.

Russian law prohibits the use of their own conscripts in combat (the law which they sometimes follow), but the 'separatists' are not considered of the same cloth.

#5 Severodonetsk has fallen. The Ukrainian governor Gaidai announced this am that Ukrainian troops have been ordered to abandon the city.

Lysychansk will fall in the next couple of days. The "order to abandon Lysychansk could come at any moment," according to a Ukrainian officer holed up there.

in the last two days the Russians have taken three major towns in the immediate area - Severodonetsk and the "Mountain cauldron" of Gorsky and Zolotoye - and have killed up to 1,000 Ukrainian troops. Some 100 or so western soldiers of fortune are also trapped along with 180 "Right Sector" neo-Nazi shock troops.

Captured Ukrainians report almost total disarray on the Ukrainian side, including officers abandoning their men and fleeing, replacements in the form of civilians-in-uniform given a rifle and sent after 5 days of training from their homes in the west to the meat grinder in Luhansk.

#6 The Russians are controlling the tempo and are taking their sweet time. As Col. Douglas MacGregor put it this week on Andrew Napolitano's programme, they are "calmly and methodically annihilating any Ukrainian force that shows up" in Luhansk.

So long as Zelensky keeps ignoring his general Zaluzhny and throws Ukraine's remaining forces into kessel after kessel, the Russians will continue this slow, steady annihilation.

Who is inducing Zelensky to be so foolish?
