#2 Joe, Zeihan is usually correct. He is one of the founding experts of Stratfor. Are the fabs you mentioned capable of complex devices? If so then why is the Russian military replacing weapons electronics that required complex chips with chips from dishwashers and the like?

#6 A quick google suggests Joe's links are to companies manufacturing or selling components and equipment. This is not the same thing as creating complex integrated circuits on slabs of silicon. Think Radio Shack vs Intel.
