Of course, as they think in Washington and Brussels, the US and NATO may have a sphere of influence. Therefore, for example, there are no questions about the French sphere of influence in West Africa. Or the American sphere of influence in Eastern Europe. Or the Monroe Doctrine 2.0 in Latin America. It's different.

#3 This harks back to Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky's plead to the west in the 1990s that Russia should have south Asia as its sphere of influence, while the USA has Latin America.

#4 The notion that the Russian-speaking regions east of the Dniester River are somehow not part of Russia's sphere of interest is ludicrous. That's like saying Brownsville is a casualty of 'Yankee imperialism.'
