#6 Pikers... Philip Wylie's Triumph(1964) WW3 novel started with the CCF sinking freighters off the East and West Coast that were basically 'super H-bombs' and obliterating both coasts in an extremely radioactive mega-tsunami...

#11 ...but Washington also knew that the much reduced force in Europe at the time couldn't stand a Red Army onslaught if Moscow joined in. To paraphrase Lincoln, one war at a time. Korea was a delaying action while Europe was being reinforced as fast as they could. The fact that the cabal of traitors had passed the atomic bomb info on to the Soviets who subsequently detonated one, took that card out of the deck for the time being.

Besides MacArthur had been warned about the intervention by the Chinese, they even carried out an attack prior to the full blown counter attack as a demonstration they meant business. MacArthur ignored it and created situation for the debacle that followed.
