#2 I wasn't aware that diamond mine tailings were particularly toxic. This being 2021, I'd be totally unsurprised if it turned out to be a Chinese Ebola mine.

#3 It's the chemical extraction processes and run-off that presents the danger. Mercury is often used in SA gold mining.
