India has managed to do some things right, for whatever reasons. We never depended on countries wishing to meddle, we sold a 'muslims are our brothers' narrative to the local fauna while dis-empowering them, and we covertly built us a nuke while Uncle Sam was busy with Watergate. And most importantly we kept our equivalent of Affirmative Action out of the military services.

Without civilian control hampering our military, in event of a large scale war, the world will see a different India from the one it is used to. Something the American deepState does not wish to see. It'd rather add to the balance of power on the Pakistain side unthinkingly. I believe DJT understood the value of a self-regulating, unaggressive top dawg in Asia and wanted to contribute to that but that's because he was neither Democrat nor Republican really.

Radical Hindus can be every bit as nasty as muslims when they react to what they see as a pollution of their beliefs and culture. And, this Uttar Pradesh, still very provincial and backward.

#11 Yes, it was, Too Old To Work. It’s my understanding the practice started to prevent the Moslem conquerers (the Moghuls) from taking the widows as household slaves once they had no husband to protect them.
