#2 My friend lost his two storey home, all his stuff and all his wife's paintings in the fires. They had to basically start from scratch. I can't imagine what it must be like.

#5 Homeowners could do more to clear deadwood near their properties, install fire breaks, and perhaps for the homes worth $1 million or more, install their own personal fire-suppression apparatus or devices. The millionaires could well afford that. People who choose to live in a tinderbox should expect fires now & then.
