#5 If I understand, catalytic converter theft is an absolute plague right now, and law enforcement overall doesn't seem very interested in it.

Campbell should have just blamed the truck. "Yeah, we saw the truck dragging something, but NOBODY WAS DRIVING!"

Surprised they even found a witness. I resident that aware at 4am is a neighborhood getting targeted.

So the guy lives and sleeps in a room near a Business Parking lot and despite usual noise this guy heard the thug trying to steal parts?

#10 Stealing a catalytic converter involves cutting through two metal exhaust pipes. You could do it slowly with a hacksaw, but a battery-powered angle grinder or sawzall is a whole lot quicker. Either way is pretty noisy. And a bit unusual at 4am.

#13 Some Damn good ears here. According to other news reports, Campbell was sleeping in the truck being targeted by the would-be thief. The noise at that distance would have awakened nearly anybody.
