#5 Texas legislators don't work full time and don't get a full time salary. They have a stipend ($7200/year) and per diem ($221/day if they travel) when they meet for 140 days every 2 years. Government isn't their career and keeps them rooted in their community.

#6 Go Abbot has already frozen their pay and expenses, vetoing Article 10 of the budget, which funds the legislature.

Also, he has put the Texas Rangers and State Highway Patrol on advisory to detain and deliver the legislators (pursuant to a contemp warrant) to the state house if they attempt to flee the state like the dems did in 2003.
