#1 Picture may be appropriate in the sense that some people see what's about to befall and are desperately trying to avoid the unavoidable. They're afraid of the consequences of a civil war and its utter destruction on what they cling to and hold dear. There were thousands of Englishmen in the colonies who acknowledged that the King's government was wrong but could not give up consent or loyalty to the Crown. The Powerline folks would rather quietly get into the boxcars than endure the destruction that is ahead.

#2 Steve Hayward blocked one of my comments last year - I told him what I thought about it and haven't read Powerline since.

#3 Follow the $$

These guys are corporate lawyers.

If they support T in any way -- including pointing out the obvious fact that the recent election was a shambles and in no way worthy of our great republic -- then their livelihoods will be destroyed. OF COURSE they will abandon truth & turn on T

#4 Paul Mirengoff lives in Maryland and tends toward being a blue-state RINO. I stopped reading any of his articles. They blocked one of my comments, because I suggested doxing traitors, and banned me from commenting. Doxing is a much less severe penalty for treason than the traditional execution. So I no longer read PL much.

#5 Paul has his fans over there but I would guess they are fewer and fewer.

#6 Hard for me to let go of Powerline. That's where I first found a link to Rantburg many years ago.

#7 Since then I have learned a lot from the site, most notably about Ilhan Omar and, more recently, the George Floyd toxicology report. The impression I got from reading an article there a week or so ago, not this one, was that Trump was probably right but his legal team wasn't up for the case. Sorry, but Rudy might be past his prime.

#10 Conclusion from this discussion: Powerline is very good at some things, but limited, making them a vast improvement over most members of their profession. Worth checking from time to time for the things they do well, like Ilhan Omar shenanigans, and the rest of the story for George Floyd-type events.

One of the jobs of a lawyer is to say, “From what you showed me, it looks like you’re right. But even so you can’t win the case, and I would be wasting your money if I advised you to try.”

#11 There was a disputed presidential election in 1876 which went like this: when votes were counted the Democrat candidate (William Tilden) had the most electoral votes. Some Republicans realized that if they could win the vote in three Southern States they could have the Republican candidate win. They then had the Republican controlled legislatures in those states submit alternate electors, and some Senators argued that the Democrat electors had been illegally selected. They claimed that steps had been taken to intimidate Blacks from voting and these steps violated the constitution.
This led to invocation of an investigatory commission, fierce partisan bickering, and ultimately Rutherford B Hayes became president.
President Trump was following the same path. Republican legislators in the disputed states submitted alternate slates of electors. Trump intended to submit evidence of illegal activities in each of the five disputed states. In Georgia, for example a surveillance video clearly showed illegal activity by counting votes after Republican poll watchers were told to leave.
In another state boxes were set up in Democrat dominated areas in which anyone could place ballots (millions of extra ones had been illegally distributed) without addresses or signatures being checked at all, whose votes were counted, in another voting rules were changed by executive order close to the election in violation of state law, and so on.
Several senators were set to protest the election, which would have left it up to the House of Representatives with each state having one vote, for deciding who would be president. Republicans had control of a majority of the 50 states.
The Democrat leadership feared that Trump woul be able to duplicate the successful Republican effort in 1877. They made every effort possible to convince the people of the country that Trump was a criminal for not conceding before the Senate met and the election could be protested by Republican Senators.
They seem to convince the Wall St Journal editorial page and most of the Powerline people. Nut Trump pressed on.
I now believe that the Capitol riots were planned by the Democrat leadership, to discredit Trump and to prevent his succeeding with it. Antifa, which has been coddled by all Democrat leaders was, according to many videos taken, and reports by experienced riot investigators, heavily involved in instigating leading and performing violence. The Capitol Police (controlled by Democrats) did some utterly crazy things to forward the riot- including shooting the woman, opening the outside door letting hundreds in afterward, teargassing the crowd, where crowd members could not move in any direction.
The press and the internet titans declared Trump responsible for the violence by 1. not conceding before it, and 2. instigating it in his speech (which he did not do). And what was the message that got him banned from whatever? It was his statement of sadness about the violence and his telling his followers to go home peacefully.
And ever since the pro Chinese? Democrat media has sought to silence anyone even saying a good word about the traitor Trump.
To me all this sounds like a successful violent campaign to prevent Trump and his allies from proceeding with their plan to pull a Hayes-Tilden on them.

#12 Sound like a Coup to me. And not bloodless - people were killed.

Also - where are the riots and 'mostly peaceful protests' over the woman who was shot? It's almost as if someone doesn't want it investigated very closely.
