#1 At least they're wearing masks.

#2 I want to see the headline that says:

"Declares state of emergency, and resigns."

#3 You have to admit that having multiple wildfires is unprecedented - at least since the last time it happened.

Personally, I think the governor should be arrested for allowing California to emit so much CO2. He is basically turning forests into carbon dioxide. That's worse than the oil companies. At least they use dead dinosaurs instead of trees.

#4 No they aren't. California Public Health officials told the public that nearly all masks are worthless against particulates such as smoke. (Yet they magically work against micro-organisms)

Health officials say N95 masks to filter wildfire smoke may do more harm than good

The advice is this: If it makes you feel better, wear one," says Francis Zamora, a spokesperson for the Department of Emergency Services "If it makes you feel worse, take it off immediately."

The advice comes with one major caveat: if you choose to wear the mask, the likelihood of it doing more harm than good is high.

#5 What's the number of cigarettes you comparatively inhale when taking in this smoke?

#6 Naughty, naughty California and its CO2 emissions.

#7 The really nasty particulate in smoke is PM2.5 that is 2.5 microns (micrometers) particle size. Cartridges that are rated P100 should take care of this. Cheap masks will not.

#8 Once again, time to dig out the old MOPP4 gear.

#9 What's the number of cigarettes you comparatively inhale when taking in this smoke?

Think a satisfactory loose pipe tobacco draw from a filterless cigarette. In a standing room only hotel room. And everyone else in the room is also smoking the same.

For further effect, rub some jalapeno seed oil in the eyes, stick some cotton in your ears, with a mild body wide sunburn, wearing your zero degree winter weather clothing, performing burpees/jumping jacks depending upon the physical exertion.

Granted, prairie fire load is different than forest fire load, but I've done enough tree row and cedar fire to comfortable say it is the same misery of a different flavor.

Now, if you are lucky enough to have the fancy firefighter's particle mask, you change filters as often as changing a toddler's diaper after an applesauce binge.

Wearing a Nomex hood over the nose like people are wearing their WuFlu mask will still have you picking coal out of your nose for 3 days for each 8 hour shift. Those with bushy nostrils wish they hadn't trimmed.

Smoking a filtered cigarette is a breath of fresh air.

Except perhaps MB Reds; but that is more a chemical burn than a particulate congestion.

#10 *If you have not smoked but have been camping, its like having the Curse of the Campfire - that slight breeze which seems to put all the campfire smoke into your tent all night long and your lungs feel like cheap beef jerky in the morning - you can get the idea except scaled up to acres of campfires.

#11 **When we had ours, the smoke was so thick the street lights turned on...at 3:00 in the afternoon on what had been a cloudless day and an average 50mph wind and low barometric pressure and high temperatures.
