 File under: Muslim Brotherhood

#1 Muslim Brothers from Egypt began infiltration of south Yemen in the 1940s, but when the south turned Socialist in the fifties, the Ikhwan was abolished there. It was reformed in 1979 as the Islamic Front, and an alliance was formed uniting Sanaa and the Ikhwan. The Brothers and its leader Sheikh Zindani were nest responsible for sending more than 20,000 mujahideen to was in Afghanstan. In September 1990 the Islah (Congregation for Reform) was founded by Brothers and a few intellectuals. After that, the Islah established some 600 institutes and educational centers controlled by Ikhwan leaders. Since then the Sunni-dominated Islah has tried to attract tribal leaders to their movement, and it was generally successful until the recent internecine war with the Shia Houti emerged.
