#2 I don't know why we are not doing this. I realize the WHO/CDC/NIS said a surgical mask will not protect *you* from the virus, but it will keep you from spreading it to others. Imagine a hospital operating room. Everyone is wearing a surgical mask so they don't spread their germs to the patient.

I'll wager the reason our Top Men said masks don't work is because no one thought to stockpile a bunch for the citizenry. A pity since they are cheap, non-perishable and don't need a lot of storage space. Same with latex gloves.

#6 Apparently New York City, at least, would have a plentiful supply of face masks and such if China had not nationalized the American factory over there and confiscated NYC’s order as it was about to ship. Adding insult to injury, they subsequently sold the entire thing to Spain. Whether this was the shipment that mostly had to be rejected for not meeting standards is unclear to me.
