#1 Zhao’s comments came days after Robert O’Brien, the U.S. national security adviser, said China had reacted slowly to the coronavirus, probably costing the world two months when it could have been preparing.

It would appear National Security Advisor O'Brien hit a nerve. Perhaps preventing world "prepartion" was a Chinese ancillary goal.

Zhao Lijian's blaming or targeting the US defense establishment is revealing. Could the asymmetric disabling or destruction of the US defense establishment be the ultimate goal ?

In the category of what's not being said, there appears to have been a slight change in the administration's heretofore collegial references to Chinese President Xi Jinping. He no longer writes. He no longer calls.

Note also the President's "they know and we know" NFI (not further identified) statement.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong protestations appear to have taken an unscheduled sabbatical.
