I'm getting a feeling that mid-level management in the FBI is realizing it needs to take the lead in protecting the agency and their jobs. That and I suspect they believe the 'Bearded Spock' promotion opportunity is going to open up when the upper echelons get cleaned out. See - raid on Biden offices.

#3 My only surprise is in the length of time from the last bust (I think it was Sal DiMasi, former House speaker, currently on early release due to terminal cancer) to this bust. Sal's bust was nine years ago.

The indictment also alleges Nangle convinced a part-time state employee to help him file fraudulent taxes, and when the employee declined to submit them, Nangle pushed the send button and said he would "take the blame if anything happens."

The employee's got a number of outs; probably doesn't need any of them as it's 100% she already struck a deal.

Andrew Lelling, U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts, said the reason Nangle was charged in federal rather than state court was because it is more of a deterrent for others.

Also, because he's likely to get a friendly jury if they were state charges. Cooking a Federal tax return removed that possibility from happening.
