#3 Iran has a history of exploratory aggression.

This was a weak attack under the rules of symmetrical warfare.

If there's no response they might escalate this to an effective attack under the cover of nominal deniability.

Beirut 1983 of the Khobar Towers attack would be a template.

#6 I think they launched a weak attack for internal consumption. I think they could have done better had they wanted to. Now if both sides stand down this will be over for now. And their terrorist in chief will still be dead and they will still have their nuclear program. It seems like Iran may well also release some French hostages to sweeten the deal.
