#1 Sounds like Bobby and Clint took a few liberties with the facts re whether this woman actually "f---ed [a scoop] out of" her FBI source. For that matter, the movie's "Tom Shaw" character is a pastiche of IIUC several agents.

It's a great film - the actors are superb, the story astounding (and appalling) - but making the journalist into a slut (as opposed to merely a Rosalind Russell, 1930s-style fast-talkin' hard-drinkin' throwback to 1930s police beat newshound) was probably a mistake.

That said, this is a great film. One of the best of the year. Oscar-worthy.

#2 Richard Jewell is the one who got f**ked. All this whinging about a reporter's reputation misses the point of the story. An uncharitable person would suggest it was a way to deflect some well-deserved blame.

#3 Wellll, no brief here for sleazy journos but she reported that the FBI considered him a suspect. The AJC & Scruggs were indeed ruled not guilty in the libel trial brought by Lin Wood on behalf of Jewell.

The FBI bears the lions share of the blame here. I think the film went a bit too far against the (no longer living) woman. The slut scenes were gratuitous imo. YMMV.

The scenes in which the FBI agents try to entrap Jewell by pretending he's recording a "training video" were chilling.

Wasn't Mueller implicated in the scandals involving his / the FBI's corrupt and botched handling of Boston Irish mafia kingpin Whitey Bulger?

The entitlement manned US Postal Service had been victimized. Something must be done! This evil Hatfill person just had to be the 2001 Anthrax killer (Amerithrax from its FBI case name). Just look at his evil, racist, apartheid supporting background. He simply had to be...., but he fok'n WASN'T.

Wiki - In 1978, Hatfill settled in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and entered the Godfrey Huggins Medical School[13] at the University of Rhodesia in Salisbury (now Harare). (His claimed military associations during this period included assistance as a medic with the Selous Scouts and membership in the Rhodesian SAS, but according to one journalist[14] the regimental association of the latter is "adamant Hatfill never belonged to the unit".) He graduated (after failing in 1983) with a M ChB degree in 1984 and then completed a one-year internship (1984–85) at a small rural hospital in South Africa's North West Province. The South African government recruited him to be medical officer on a 14 month (1986–88) tour of duty in Antarctica with the South African National Antarctic Expedition (SANAE).
