Story of the west for a long time to come now, if something doesn't change Trump's mind. I think Bolton was right on this, apart from other things. Trump expects islamic states to behave as a corporation would, dance to the tune of economic realities imposed by trade and investment restrictions. These islamist entities are not however, affected by that. To them the hubris of Saracen glory and the Ottoman empire is more real than pecuniary concerns and state responsibilities to citizens. Their hatred of America and desire to see an America sized hole in world politics is a motivating factor in all of their policies. These are people who will evolve ramshackle economies independent of and unanswerable to the sanction-based punitive policies of the west. Look at Iran. It presses on.

Turkey should be sanctioned, kicked out of NATO, the nukes dismantled, their warheads flown out. If Erdogan 'doesn't allow' that, he's declaring war. War. Staying out of wars you didn't start must not be confused with being a ninny islamists can coerce into doing their bidding.

Being Turkey's ally now, especially under duress would be the ultimate ignominy and a victory for every islamist from Algiers to Zafarwal.
