#2 That's quite the puncture wound. Big enough for the surgeon to put his hand inside it.
Glad he survived.

#4 357 magnum is a better carry choice in the bear woods. And there are plenty of firearms chambered for it.

#5 Having been chased out of the woods by a bear, I maintain the best bear gun is 40mm.

#6 Mercutio, I like your style. I'd have to settle for a lesser caliber though, nowadays. A .460 S&W would do, if a .50 BMG wasn't handy (and they hardly ever are handy).

#8 Would a very load flash bang type device not also work?

Maybe why .44 is good. Even if it misses the bear will know you fired it.

#9 Would a very load flash bang type device not also work?

It would. You would neither see or hear what the bear is doing to you.

I was watching a bear chow down on some elk when some damned fool approached it with one of them air horns. Didn't bother the bear at all until the fool got too close for good table manners. The bear, already full and gone back for thirds, jogged off.

A full, happy, content, Brown Bear. Not sure what pissed off/hungry/mama bear would have handled that meat stick. Maybe the guy grazed it, maybe bear finished his Dicapprio fantasy. Rear side of a Grizzly doesn't present much of a critical target other than balls and butt hole, and if you are like me hitting bullseyes at the range when that is the only activity I had planned that day is chore enough.

#10 10mm ballistics are pretty close to 41 magnum. I'm a fan. Deemed lethal enough for legally hunting black bear, but I wouldn't trust in grizzly country. Those guys got real lucky taking one out with a couple of puny 9mms.

#11 See, this is why what you really need is a Howdah pistol in .600 Nitro Express.
