#1 The waste is turned into granules, then mixed with a secret "activator" ingredient, reducing the amount of fossil fuel in the asphalt mix.

Who takes the lids off the bottles (often a different type of plastic)? What about the labels? Does somebody have to wash the used containers? How much energy goes into making the 'granules'? Does the secret "activator" have any bad properties to make it or dispose of it or constituents? Inquiring minds, and all that.

#2 for many years, used tires have been ground up and made into a mixed substance (mostly asphault) subgrade to make race tracks at colleges and high schools

it works pretty well as long as no heavy trucks drive on it

plastic would work as well as limestone or similar aggregate except in the wearing surface where you need more friction
