#1 I think this is a good idea. When we visited Israel in 2011, we saw groups of school children accompanied by an adult armed with a rifle. Israeli children are always faced with the threat of terrorism.

#5 I notice that Russia Today quotes Ha'aretz, which is proud of being the New York Times of Israel. So of course they are appalled at what occurred. I imagine, however, it was comforting for the children to know that attackers will be fought, and fought effectively. The nightmare is being helpless.
