#1 Posh! Everybody knows fire can't melt steel (or reinforcing in concrete)!

#3 They probably tried to put the (PVC/Plastics stored under the bridge) fire out with water. Should have used FOAM (link).

#4 It's really difficult to exaggerate how big of a mess this is going to create in Atlanta. About the only thing that could cause as many problems is messing up the Airport.

#5 So, Frank G, are you going to Atlanta?

#6 Seems the Congressional caucus of Atlanta needs to visit the White House for some highway funding. That could be interesting.

#8 My younger son had gone over the section that collapsed two hours earlier. My wife had a premonition yesterday and prayed for our son and her parents in Atlanta.

If she has any future premonitions involving a southerly arc down I-85, please post it here or ring me up.

#11 That was my big question. What could provide a fuel source that would crack the concrete and melt internal reinforcing (as obviously happened). I mean even Jet fuel can't do that - Or so our expert celebrities say

#12 add to #11, Rosie's "Expert" Credentials™:
While she attended Commack High School, O'Donnell was voted homecoming queen, prom queen, senior class president, and class clown.[3] During high school she began exploring her interest in comedy, beginning with a skit performed in front of the school in which she imitated Gilda Radner's character Roseanne Roseannadanna.[2] After graduating in 1980, O'Donnell briefly attended Dickinson College, later transferring to Boston University before ultimately dropping out of college.[3]

#13 Let's be honest jihadis are crap and could cause a lot more economic damage with a bit of what they lack i.e. thought power.

#14 Spalling of concrete due to fire.

#15 Heat causes concrete to pop and flake. Take a cutting torch to concrete and you better have safety glasses because the flakes will travel pretty fast and far.

Concrete will also crack at low temperatures. That is why there are creases in the sidewalk. To try to make sure if concrete is going to crack, it cracks at the crease and not in the panel itself. That is called controlling the random, unpredictable cracking of concrete.

When you add heat to concrete for a period of time, it pops off and fault lines appear everywhere, and then collapses if elevated. Taking the rebar down with it.
