#3 Are the hostage-takers themselves confused about the loyalties of the prisoners they want exchanged, or is this some sort of perverse victim-shopping, where they're looking to trade up from Lebanese hostages to hostages from rival Islamist gangs which will give them leverage and power in their own little world?

Although it sounds like loyalties are crazy fluid among the militant groups in the Levant. It might be that the prisoners have no idea who's bidding for their asses, and don't exactly want to put themselves bound and unarmed in the control of unknown ~~lunatics~~ non-state actors.

#4 Reject a swap? Wonder what brand of Islamist gunnies they are? The newspaper said that the inmates reportedly disagree with the mentality of the group. As Ed says, they must feel that it is much safer to stay where they are. Could be that ISIL also has a grudge to settle with them.
